Class Histor Between the years 1941 and 1942 there were some 116 babies born who were destined to graduate from Evergreen in 1960. Let us turn back the pages of history to those bygone days of old when out of a cloud of dust and with a Hi Ho Sil. . . Whoops wrong story--sorry. For a few moments let us reminisce over the past twelve years that have lead to the greatest landmark thus far in our lives, graduation. We shall start our journey with the first time our group attended school, the first grade. This was the golden age when the boys, led by Jerome Salvey, were indulging in that great pastime, shooting marbles. The girls were busy playing Fairy Princess, Cinderella, and the like. with Hazel Munger nearly always being Princess. About the fourth grade the boys started to participate in sports. Half of this was done at Burton Holmes, the other half at Orchards. In 1953 the half at Burton Holmes went to Mill Plain, as 6th graders. At both schools, sports were the important issues for the boys. Dave Hard was outstanding at Orchards and Kenton Allum at Mill Plain. In other activities, Lewis Schatz was Captain of Patrols. One of the teachers at Mill Plain, Miss Carty, filmed two stories during the yearg the Nativity and Robin Hood. In the Nativity, Al Landis was Joseph and Doreen Paradis was Mary. Robin Hood had many stars, Allen Crumpton, Robin Hood, Don Snoen, Sheriff of Nottingham: Bruce Liebman, Friar Tuckg Joyce Grelk, Maid Marian, Francis Scott, Allen-A-Dale, Dick Haynes, Will Scarletg, and many others. Back to Burton Holmes for the seventh grade. Remember the talent show that year? Bruce Liebman played a clarinet solo, Dick Haynes slow motioned wrestled, and Jerry VanFleet, Doug Olson, Rick Harris, and Harvey Varner did a take off on the T.V. program, Dragnet. In the eight grade our class moved again, this time to the brand new Jr. Hi. Everyone thought it was just wonderful, the new lockers, the Luiiforms in P. E. , and the baskets and locks in the P.E, room. Our freshman year was the start of many busy activities. Pep Club was formed with Lyle Paulson as President. We had three girls on the Jr. High Rally Squad, Joyce Uhacz, Judy Leckie, and Gail Vandenberge. The basketball team was outstanding, but the other teams did not fare as well. Going steady became popular, as Lewis Schatz and Jackie Luman led the field. Miss Carty, now a freshman English teacher, presented several plays to the Jr. High this year. This is where Jeff Cartwright's acting career started. Jr. High A.S.B. Officers were President, Marie Heringg Jean Miller, Vice President, Treasurer, Allen Crumptong Dave Inman, Commissioner, and Girls' League and Boys' League presidents were Kay Johnson and Allen Crumpton. We started our sophomore year imder the guidance of our able advisors, Miss Turk, Mr. Tierney, Mr. Axe, Mrs. Woodallg but these were changed slightly as the years rolled by. Our basketball team came in second in the Trico J .V. League. Jr. Class officers were Lyle Paulson, Herb Wainwright, Frank Owings, and Margie Krava. Kav Johnson was chosen Red Cross Representative for the A. S. B. .The class put on a successful Jr. Sr. Prom, the theme of which was Moonlight and Roses. Dave Inman and Bruce Liebman were named next year's football co-captains. Jim McAbee, Joe Kunkle, and Herb Wainwright played varsity basketball and were in the State Tournament. Kenton Allum caught the final out as the Plainsmen won the Trico League Baseball Championship. But the biggest thrill came when the band played for Vice Presi- dent Nixon in Portland. Upon ending our Junior year Dixie Barber was editor of the naner. Then Honor Society was created with Linda Griffith being chosen as President for the coming year. Bruce Liebman went to Boys State, and Karolyn Tyler went to Girls State during the summer. At last after 11 years of hard work most of us became seniors, electing as our class officers, President, Al Landisg Vice President, Marilyn Kroutg Treasurer, . Marian Wirkkala: and Secretary, Jean Miller. Kay Johnson was Girls' League President and Lewis Schatz headed Boys' League. Chosen for A. S, B. Officers were President David Inman: Vice Pres- ident, Lyle Paulson, and Treasurer, Jan Seekins. Karen Bowen was then chosen Queen of the Homecoming and Phyllis Patten, Queen of the Christmas Ball. All of the Seniors look back at their years at Evergreen with fond recollections of our school days. FAREWE LL! 79
