eniot 61444 lfiitoty Several years ago the 93 babies destined to be the 1958 graduates of Evergreen High School came into the world with a series of loud wails. They grew through childhood with the normal catastrophes, measles, mumps and other diseases. The pig-tailed girls and shy boys became adolescents and even- tually were ready for high school. In the Fall of 1954 116 fresmen entered Evergreen. Many of these dropped out, but we also gained a few from other parts of the country. The undignified freshmen were herded along their way by their advisors, Mr. Pat Tierney and Mr. Jim Thiele, who did their best to steer them on the right path to a successful high school career. Heading the class officers was Carl English, president. His fellow officers were the vice president, Sam Crosbyg secretary, Gayle Wheelockg treasurer, Mary Lou Bastiang and representative, Donna Dean, During the year the class sponsored a skating party and a Thank You dance for the sophomores. Mrs. Grace Pollock and Mr. Gus Lindblom advised the 109 sophomores in 1955-1956, and class officers were Jerald Stutesman, Al Overall, Donna Dean, Mary Lou Bastian, Gayle Wheelock, Mary Ann Chevron and Gordon Peck. The sophomores gave two dances and started a large treasury. At last upper classmen, the juniors were advised by Mrs. Jean Vaughan, Miss Zola Rowley, Mr. Gus Lindblom, and Mr. Vernon Swaim. Four of our juniors who were elected to student body offices were Melvin Lindsley, ASB presidentg Al Overall, ASB vice president, Mary Ann Chevron, ASB treasurer, and Corrine Lunn, ASB secretary. The theme of the junior prom was My Blue Heaven . This prom was a big success and represented a lot of work on the part of the juniors. Our 1956-1957 officers were headed by Bill Broussard, president, who early in the year moved to Utah. The class then elected Melvin Lindsley to fill his shoes. His fellow workers were Al Overall, Mary Ann Chevron, and Donna Dean. At last the babies reached that desired plane, the upper--upper classman, the position of SENIOR. This was the group's most active year. Sam Crosby, Brandy Martin, and Bonnibelle War- ner were elected to class offices. Professor, How Could You , our senior play, was declared a rip-roaring success by everyone. Mr. Pat Tierney directed the production, with Jean Duvall as student director. Members of the cast were Kathleen Hughes, Muriel Wokal, Donna Dean, Gayle Wheelock, Mary Ann Chevron, Brandy Martin, Jim Friberg, Jim McBroom, Melvin Lindsley, Richard Carnell and Sam Crosby. Many seniors assisted on make-up, property, and the millions of details involved in putting on a production of this size. Three of our senior girls entered school in the fall of this last year as married women. Kathleen Roberts had become Mrs. Ed Hughes during the summer. Two of these girls also were mothers. Pat McBroom, now Mrs. Richard White, had a little boy named Ricky, and Darlene Falter, now Mrs. Stephen Woodward, had a little girl named Quanita. Two of our seniors married during the year. Carol Smith became Mrs. Ralph Pluard, and Jean Vandenberghe became Mrs. Milton Baird. Many more seniors became engaged and planned to be married soon after grad- uation. Richard Carnell and Jim Crooker enlisted in the service during the year. Gordon Peck was selected for the county all-star football team. Two girls who received outstanding honors this year were Myrna Hoseney, who won the Evergreen's Future Homemaker of Tomorrow contest, and Nancy Van Fleet, who was selected as the DAR Good Citizen from Evergreen. Many of our class members received recognition for outstanding achievement in their high school careers. Donna Dean was selected to represent Evergreen at Girls' State in the summer of 1957. Also during this summer, Max Bolte and Joe Beaudoin attended Boys' State, Carl English went to the Twinlow Leadership conference, Gayle Wheelock attended the Seabeck conference, and Jim Friberg went to the Junior Scientists' Summer Institute. 19
