We must get more education out of all our school years, not only the high school. That means more work in every course. Every day must count more. This is coupled with a shortage of classrooms and a shortage of teachers. The job can be done and each of us must do his share and a little more. Monthly wages are many times falsely used as a means of measuring success or failure. To the seniors leaving, I would like to say work honestly, sin- cerely, intelligently, and indus- triously, and you will be success- ful. To the students remaining for more training, practice the above mentioned characteristics if you aren't already doing so, and you will sense a feeling of accomplishment. This has truly been a successful year. I feel the students in both the junior and senior high schools have worked well to- gether and have accomplished many fine goals. lt has indeed been a pleasure working with you. KEN HAGENSENRW Vice Principal 'x N. xv Qdfx .1 Q- i 1 . rf 1 f V Evergreen's modern facilities are helping teachers and students to acquire and pro- vide better learning experiences. We are now living in a scientific age, and the scholastic achievement of students is a very important factor for future success and security. Opportunities are available for all students wishing to exercise their mental capacity and acquire the know- ledge that is organized and presented by the instructors. Education is a serious undertaking and includes the cooperative efforts of every- one whose ideals and objectives are of a constructive nature. Keep your sights high and work to your capacity in school. MAX L. HUDSON Principal WU! I made an interesting observation today as I made rounds in the Uni- versal Cyclo Clinic, which is run jointly by that world renowned head shrinker fpsychiatristy, Dr. Wokal, and myself. Do you know nearly all those who graduated with us back in 1958 from that little high school, Evergreen, have at one time or another come to this clinic for treatment? You see this is no ordinary clinic, it is located on a satellite built by the great engineering firm of Bolte, Engstrom Sz Funk, and sent into orbit by a missile designed by a famous woman rocket expert, Suzi Wardwell. At this clinic we treat all cases free due to two generous billionaires, Carl English and Gayle Wheelock. Iwandered into the men's surgical ward today and ran into two of our interns, Brandon tMartinJ and Sam fCrosbyl. They had a date with two fashion models, JoAnne Johnson and Cecelia Trammell, to go and hear the celebrated singing group, Brad Hoover, Doug Hoffman, Jim Crooker and JimTooley, who are accompanied on their current tour by concert pianist, Donna Dean. But trouble developed because their girl friends, Bonnibelle Warner and Laverne Mitchell, who are nurses, won't speak to them now. lwent farther into the room and saw Jim Friberg had contracted a serious case of Martian Flu while on an expedition with his secretaries and associate, Beverely Bowen, Katherine Bull, and Professor Beaudoin. In bed next to him was Don Collins with a case of rabies. Margaret Dykgraaf's dog, Cuddles, you know, From him Ilearned several tidbits about other people Iknew. Jerry Kays and Jerry Inman, always fond of hot cars, are making souped up rocket ships. Gary Breaker and Dick Davis are also part owners in the Sputnick1e Corporation. Kieth Bakker, Joe Rickman, Jim Johnson and Janet Carlson, all ardent bowlers, oper ate a bowling alley on Jupiter. It is a rip roaring success. Ted Wright and Jim Risdon, who own the biggest beef ranch in the Universe, go there for recreation. Wanting to hear more about my former classmates, I went to the women's ward--for you all know that's a good place to eavesdrop! I stopped outside to listen. Sheryl Eldred and Loretta Crooker were talking. They were arguing whether Pat White had eight or nine children and whether Merle Smithline was director of athletics at Jupiter University or University of Mars, where Myrna Hoseney is teaching mathematics. May QBeckerj Kangas has a beauty shop near the campus of U. of M. , where Elnora Clark is a music teacher. Sheryl was telling Loretta that some of the boys who joined the service made it a career. Wayne Johnson, Mel Lindsley, Tom McQueen, and Bill Miller are captains, and Al Overall is a five star general. Gordon Peck, Ken Smith and Arnold Tandberg belong to a new Air Force called Strategic Space Comptrollers. The White boys, Kenny and Melvin, opened a garage on a new satellite, Juniper , where many students have married and are now residing. The Duback bro- thers, Gary and Denny, operate a clothing store and work on a formula for getting rid of skunks. Since Sheryl and Loretta tired of talking, lwent into the other women's ward. Iheard that many classmates have moved to Astroid , with their families. Keith Michael, Jerald Stutesman, Bob Weems and his wife, Anna Mae Mitchell, Dick Whiting, and Gary Withers are a few. Lois Smith, Joyce Bowen, and Carol QChristensenJ Clark run the Parisienne Dress Shop on Pumper- nickle . Mary Ann Chevron was a banker, but was-is the correct word. One day she had an extra S300 and bought a new hat. Boom! She's now in the Alkaloid Prison , run by Pat Cox. Judie Price, Kathleen Hughes, Jean Duvall and Joyce Dennis, wishing to see them, went there and got locked up by Pat. It isn't too bad though because DeAnna Collingwood, the librarian, brings them good books to read, and Doreen Grimm, a matron, brings their bread and water on time. Some of our boys, failing to steer a straight path, ended up in Baroid , the men's institute. Doug Mattson, Ron Richards, Jim McBroom, and Chuck Miller received the nicest striped suits from Ralph Evalt, the tailor there. Darlene Woodward and family have moved to the moon and operate a re- ducing salon there. Buzz Sherburn opened a school on Saturine to teach the minuet, and in his spare time run his harem. Naoma Smith and Nancy Van Fleet, who are Duke Bill Calzaretta's secretaries, live there too. Upon careful searching, Ifound that Gary Harness is managing a home for the aged salesmen of Earth and his partner, Cecil Roberts, runs an institute for the ad- vancement of salesmen and peddlers. Now back to good old Earth. Jean Vanderberghe Baird runs a ballet school here and Beverly Plaisted is her prima donna. In the troupe also are Delores Place, Lois Pruter, Carol Pluard, and Jo Stricker. Well, it's late, so I think I'll lock my book in the safe and retire. 16 eniot glad: Will I, Maybelle Becker, will my photogenic figure to Mr. Tierney. I, Brandy Martin, of sound mind and body, will my ability to get along with and soft-soap every teacher to Maridee Garvey. I, Arnold Tandberg, will my curly hair to Mr. Lindblom. They grew through childhood with the normal catastrophes, measles, mumps and other diseases. The pig-tailed girls and shy boys became adolescents and even- tually were ready for high school. In the Fall of 1954 116 fresmen entered Evergreen. Many of these dropped out, but we also gained a few from other parts of the country. The undignified freshmen were herded along their way by their advisors, Mr. Pat Tierney and Mr. Jim Thiele, who did their best to steer them on the right path to a successful high school career. Heading the class officers was Carl English, president. His fellow officers were the vice president, Sam Crosbyg secretary, Gayle Wheelockg treasurer, Mary Lou Bastiang and representative, Donna Dean, During the year the class sponsored a skating party and a Thank You dance for the sophomores. Mrs. Grace Pollock and Mr. Gus Lindblom advised the 109 sophomores in 1955-1956, and class officers were Jerald Stutesman, Al Overall, Donna Dean, Mary Lou Bastian, Gayle Wheelock, Mary Ann Chevron and Gordon Peck. The sophomores gave two dances and started a large treasury. At last upper classmen, the juniors were advised by Mrs. Jean Vaughan, Miss Zola Rowley, Mr. Gus Lindblom, and Mr. Vernon Swaim. Four of our juniors who were elected to student body offices were Melvin Lindsley, ASB presidentg Al Overall, ASB vice president, Mary Ann Chevron, ASB treasurer, and Corrine Lunn, ASB secretary. The theme of the junior prom was My Blue Heaven . This prom was a big success and represented a lot of work on the part of the juniors. Our 1956-1957 officers were headed by Bill Broussard, president, who early in the year moved to Utah. The class then elected Melvin Lindsley to fill his shoes. His fellow workers were Al Overall, Mary Ann Chevron, and Donna Dean. At last the babies reached that desired plane, the upper--upper classman, the position of SENIOR. This was the group's most active year. Sam Crosby, Brandy Martin, and Bonnibelle War- ner were elected to class offices. Professor, How Could You , our senior play, was declared a rip-roaring success by everyone. Mr. Pat Tierney directed the production, with Jean Duvall as student director. Members of the cast were Kathleen Hughes, Muriel Wokal, Donna Dean, Gayle Wheelock, Mary Ann Chevron, Brandy Martin, Jim Friberg, Jim McBroom, Melvin Lindsley, Richard Carnell and Sam Crosby. Many seniors assisted on make-up, property, and the millions of details involved in putting on a production of this size. Three of our senior girls entered school in the fall of this last year as married women. Kathleen Roberts had become Mrs. Ed Hughes during the summer. Two of these girls also were mothers. Pat McBroom, now Mrs. Richard White, had a little boy named Ricky, and Darlene Falter, now Mrs. Stephen Woodward, had a little girl named Quanita. Two of our seniors married during the year. Carol Smith became Mrs. Ralph Pluard, and Jean Vandenberghe became Mrs. Milton Baird. Many more seniors became engaged and planned to be married soon after grad- uation. Richard Carnell and Jim Crooker enlisted in the service during the year. Gordon Peck was selected for the county all-star football team. Two girls who received outstanding honors this year were Myrna Hoseney, who won the Evergreen's Future Homemaker of Tomorrow contest, and Nancy Van Fleet, who was selected as the DAR Good Citizen from Evergreen. Many of our class members received recognition for outstanding achievement in their high school careers. Donna Dean was selected to represent Evergreen at Girls' State in the summer of 1957. Also during this summer, Max Bolte and Joe Beaudoin attended Boys' State, Carl English went to the Twinlow Leadership conference, Gayle Wheelock attended the Seabeck conference, and Jim Friberg went to the Junior Scientists' Summer Institute. 19 LOIS ANDERSON FHA--1, 2, 3, 4 Ambition: To be Mrs. , you guess who!
