I.et's all join in this spirited effort to make Evergreen High School an outstanding insti- tution. The excellent co-operation and en- thusiasm shown by both students and facul- ty has been most encouraging, this type of progress plus new facilities certainly will hring about many fine educational experi- ences for the students of Evergreen High School. Max Hudson, University of Idaho The life of a high school is very similar to a written history book. Chapters I and II in our hook have been written. Chapter I was the old Union High School-a long and interesting one. Chapter II is the re- organized District, our new High School without a gymnasium and the beginnings of athletic competition with the A schools. Chapter III is starting. It is our completed junior-Senior High School plant with an adequate gymnasium and the realization on the part of other large school districts, that Evergreen has arrived. It too, promises to be a most interesting chapter as it unfolds. These here greenhorns numbered 93 and they hailed from 23 of these here United States. Also, they gained two adopted members, Suzanne Frackewicz from Poland, and Pete Lambrecht from Canada. Holdin' the reins over these here maverics were two mighty brave foremen -Mr. Turya and Mr. Chambers. The foremen corraled the freshmen into throwin' the class' big shindig of the year- The Freshmen and Sophomore Fling. Dave Daily, king maveric of the wild game of football, earnt a letter the first year. The green basketball team won a lucky 7 games and lost only 4. The green tenderfeet feelin' their oats the first year in high school feven though they spent half their schoolin' in their old alma mater-Union High School, started to settle down for their second year in school as Sophomores. Feelin' that they still had a few more oats to sow, the 98 flost a few, gained a few, sophomores threw two mighty roarin' dances-Sophomore-Freshman Party and the April Showers Tolo. The Sophomores had a few outstanding boy athletes fthat's cause they were taller than eyerybody elsej. Those boy athletes were Dave Daily, john Gorman, and Ray Haagen. And the boy that inspired everybody in football was Bob Miller. The two foremen i for this wing-ding of a year was Mr. Lindblom and Mr. Sanders. The thunderin' herd now hit the big time-upperclassmen and juniorhood. Startin' the year out with 93 on the payroll, 7'more were added, making a total of 100 juniors. To raise green backs for the biggest wing-ding of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom, these here maverics threw two mighty lively dances, jukebox Jubilee 'and junior jump. When they got the necessary green backs, they went and threw one fine dance, the prom. The narne of it was Stairway to the Stars and nobody got through the door without an invite. This year the class gained a lady forem help the kids. The forging! this year were Mrs. Vaughan and Mr. Chambers. ' ' h e Well. they finally hit the top of the haystack. The senior year brought meny c or s. in the corral. This was a radio program with two of the senior maverics starrin' on Youth Views the News, the first time it ever here in this neighborhood. Next the class put on the senior play, Our Miss was Brooks. Two chores were taken care of next, the Homecoming Dance at which Faye Cherry was crowned queen, and the Hi Dirty Birds wing-ding. Queen Carol I fAnder- sonj was crowned at the junior-Senior Prom. Helpin' her out were Betty Irwin and Fa e Cherry. We sponsored a Hobo Dance which turned out very well. The Hobo King that was chosen was a junior, Gary Lynlc. The theme of our Prom, which is the biggest event of the junior year, was Fairylancl Fantasy. The enrollment ofthe Class of juniors was 86, having 34 girls and 52 boys. The Juniors came out very well in the annual A. S. B. elec- 'in w of 1956 tion. George Fisher was elected President, Wally Stencil, Vice President, Carol Lunn, Secretary, Yvonne Rose, Treasurerg and jean Collette, Red Cross Repre- sentative. Fred Griffith, one of our jun- iors, won a State Farmer award at a F. F, A. convention held at Pullman. He was the first junior from Evergreen to win this award, and one of the few jun- iors ever to receive this award. In all, we were very proud of our junior Class and feel that we have achieved much this year. The second edition of the handbook is to be edited by Betty Irwin and assistants Peggy Powell, Betty Lemberg, and Dave Daily.
