There were many seasoned runners on The Team, buT a few new faces had a big impacT. The mosT noficeable of The newcomers was freshman DwighT WheaTon. ln his firsT year of varsily compeTiTion, he broke Two school records for The half mile. l expecT To send quiTe a few people To The sTaTe TournamenT , said coach Turner, and I expecT DwighT To be There. Coach Turner aTTribuTes The success he had This season noT only To The number of people who Turned ouT buT, also To The TaIenT of The individuals. For insfance. Evergreen was very Tough To beaT in many evenTs, especially The high jump, where junior Mario HousTon broke a school record wiTh a jump of six feeT six inches. He also placed in The Top Three in The high jump in every meef. Mario HousTon sTaTed, I felT really good This year in every evenT I enTered, whefher iT be The high jump, Triple jump, or The relay. I Think aloT of iT has To do wiTh The confidence ThaT l have in myself and my TeammaTes. The season didn'T have Too many highlighTs for The Team overall, buT one was Their vicfory over Kenfwood, which was Their firsT win in Three years. l'Track is an individual sporT, sTaTed Coach Turner, so even Though we only had a single vicfory for The Team, many of our individual aThleTes should qualify for The sTaTe Tournamenf. Buf iT all depends on how dedicaTed They are and on how much They wanT iT. lf dedicaTion's The auesfion, Then The oTher Teams in Regionals and STaTe beTTer look ouT, said discus Throwers Terry Bunn and Pani Roe.
