Team Size inspires Closeness lf we had more people, we would have scored more poinTs and so we would have been a beTTer Team, ex- pressed junior Leslie McKay, buT because we were a small Team, we were closer and we goT along really well. This sTaTemenT sums up The T987 Wolverine girls Track Team. They were small in number, only 6 members, which limiTed Their chances of success. More imporTanT, however, was The closeness of The Team and individual successes ThaT were achieved. Under The coaching of JaneT BunTin, pracTice Took place every day afTer school for TV2 To 2 hours. The Team sTreTched and jagged as Their half hour warm ups, Then They performed The daily rouTines of running hills, prac- Ticing charges, or working ouT in The weighTroom. MeeTs occurred once a week on Thursday or Friday. DifferenT evenTs Iduring The meeTs included disTance running C800-3200mj, sprinTs GOO- AOOQ, hurdles, long and high jumps, shoTpuT and discus. Because of The small number of players, The Team was unable To compeTe in The relay evenTs. One of The highlighTs of The season was when senior Suzy NesTer broke The school record of i3.2s in The TOOm dash wiTh The Time of 12.9 seconds. AnoTher season highlighT Took place when Evergreen almosT beaT KenT- wood. According To BunTin, The girls were real compeTiTive and spiriTed so The meeT was very exciTing. The Team probably would've won The meeT, which ended wiTh The close score of 62-AO, excepT one member was sick. Looking back on The enTire season, one can see ThaT iT was noT very suc- cessful in comparison wiTh oTher schools. YeT The small number of girls on The Team allowed Them To have fun and geT To know each oTher beTTer.
