A Tesr Of Endu ance - The Evergreen Wolverines girls' soc- cer Team had To work iTs hardesT and sTrongesT. LasT year The Team placed fifTh in sTaTe afTer losing a Tough game To Thomas Jefferson High School in sud- den deaTh overTime. Because of The success of lasT year's sauad, This year's Team decided To Try iTs besT To im- prove on lasT year's record seTTing season. AlThough The Team losT Three seniors aT The end of lasT season, They gained five new freshmen players and one new junior player. These addiTions were greaTly needed aT The beginning of The season and supporTed The Team ThroughouT The year. The coaches, lrma EllioTT and Dave Cass, who have succeeded in compil- ing a successful, compeTiTive, and Q STephanie Johnson punTs The ball ouT of Evergreen TerriTory during The game againsT Lindbergh. 4 Janel Sfoneback, exemplifying her year-long efforT, gives The Wolverines an offensive advanrage. 9 Suzy NesTer, proTecTing The ball from aTTacking Tro- jans, manuevers The ball Towards The goal for a score. 32 Girls' Soccer hardworking Team, have been coach- ing aT Evergreen for Three years. They had a posiTive feeling aT The beginning of The season and ThoughT ThaT afTer The Team had won Their firsT game The resT of The season would fall inTo place. Daylene Boehm, who had been a member of The Team for Three years, said, lrma and Dave have really helped me To improve my skills and playing aTTiTude over The years. One observer commenTed on how The girls never showed any sign of defeaT in Their faces, and were always smiling and laughing, even on a bad day. The girls en- joyed Their season, and expecTed many of The freshmen To reTurn nexT year. When asked abouT how They encour- aged each oTher aT meeis, Shawnna Prehm, a freshman on The Team This year commenTed, We sTand down aT The oTh- er end and yell as loud as we can. Their Times do noT show how They im- proved individually, buT Erica Lybecker, a junior in her Third year on The Team com- menTs, We have a beTTer Turn ouT This year and much more poTenTial. Erin Of Pride Hughes, one of The Three seniors on The Team replied, This year has been a real challenge and I have learned aloT even Though This is my firsT year diving. The Team conTained only eighTeen girls, The smallesT amounT in Their division. This forced The Team To puT mosT of The girls in Three or four evenTs in each meeT. ThaT effecTed The girls' Times and They were of- Ten exTremely worn ouT by The end of a meeT. Though They had The IeasT people in The NPSL, They never gave up and were con- sTanTly Trying To improve Themselves.
