Leaves sTarTed To pile up while sTudenTs busied Themselves wiTh homework and acTiviTies such as Homecoming and Halloween. The busiesT people of all were The seniors as They found ouT ThaT The road To college isn'T always paved . The juniors, finally being upper- classmen, were deTermined To ouTdo The seniors in class compeTiTion. Running around wiTh The feeling of relief of moving up were The sophomores, and Those walking around, Trying noT To look conspicuous were The freshmen. Sporfs were big during fall. The harsh auTumn winds could noT blow away The efforTs of fooTball players as They worked To improve Their record. The young volleyball Team acquired experience They lacked, and The soccer players sTrived for excellence. The cross-counTry Team had a liTTle Trouble which was soon forgoTTen by The Tremendous amounT of efforT and en- Thusiasm generaTed from The runners, and The swimmers swam Through The season wiThouT any problem. Pride lv Rebuilding This years cross counTry squad was seTTing The Evergreen pace. All The members on The 4986 Team wanTed one Thing badly, and ThaT was To geT some wins and puT ouT one hundred percenT all The Time. The Team sTarTed running in mid-July and The firsT prac- Tice was on AugusT 25Th. This year's Team was young and in- experienced buT Coach Turner had plans for beginning a rebuilding sToge for The young Team over The nexT cou- ple of years. Some of This year's sTron- ger runners were Kevin KilsTrom, Dan MaTThias, Kenny Lundeen, and sopho- more Kevin Rodrigues. Coach Turner had This To say abouT Rodriguez, 'll feel sTrongIy abouT his TalenTs and him be- coming o greaT runner as a senior and being a good Team leader . The Team's besT meeT of The season occurred versus KenTwood and Ren- Junlor Dan MaTThias blows pasT a KenTwood runner in The lasT mile of The conference meeT. D lnTensiTy is shown on The face of sophomore Kevin Rodri- gues during his run of The Evergreen Three mile course. 22 Cross CounTry Ton aT KenTwood. Every varsiTy runner performed very well. Kevin KilsTrom, a senior, placed fifTh wiTh his besT Time of The year, 47:28, on The Three mile course. Evergreen losT To KenTwood by merely Two poinTs. All The meeTs This year were held away excepf for one home league meeT and The conference meeT. The Team hoped for more supporT from The Evergreen sTudenTs aT Their home meeTs buT They were limiTed wiTh only a few fans To cheer Them on.
