Carr It was obvious even by the first pep assembly that the Evergreen pride and spirit was still going strong. Led by the 1986 cheer- leaders, the cheers and chants of the student body could be heard ringing throughout the gym. Ad- ded to the cheering were the mag- nified voices of Gerry Tiger Budbill and Phuong Ping Pong Phung coming through their megaphones. They were the first E.H.S. yell kings in the history of Evergreen. When Gerry was asked how it felt to be the first male cheerleader at Evergreen, he in 0n responded, uwonderful, fun, great, it's an honor and a privilege. Except for one returning senior cheerleader, Suzette Hutchings, the squad was all new. But be- cause of hard practice and a week at cheer camp the squad per- formed like pros! At cheer camp the squad demonstrated their tal- ent by winning seven superior awards, one excellent award, and two Pep Paddles. Winning the Pep Paddle was a thrill for the squad, and the school, only five out of forty schools were able to take one home. We were so ex- The Spirit cited that we won, that on the way up to recieve it we all tripped over each other, laughingly stated Cathy Oostmeyer. And when we sat down we realized that none of us had brought the paddle back, added junior cheerleader Christy Tamaela. We are proud of our 1986-87 cheerleaders and yell kings, and want to say thanks for a job well done. Friends are very important in our lives. Would Evergreen High School be successful without friends? Friends are what brings Ever- green togetherg we take each other to functions, we do our home- work together, and we learn about life together. Friends at Ever- green are unique and interesting. There are shy and outgoing friends, tall and short friends, bizarre and l'normal friends, loud and guiet friends, and anyone in between. Because of years togeths er, students have grown closer and have made friendships that are everlasting. Everyone cherishes true friendships. Someone who we can share our feelings with, someone who will listen and understand, and someone who will take our good and bad. Cf course friends have their share of fun, passing notes during class, cheering together at sports events, attending dances in Hawiian shorts and wearing coconut oil, and laughing hysterically about something which no one else understands. Besides all the fun times, friendships have their serious moments also. We are allowed to veht our angers, we are always forgiven for mistakes we havevmade, and we complain about parentspschool, other friends, and the day in general. Although friends see just as many bad days as good in each other, they will still support and accept one another. Friendship is very special, and although all relationships have their differences, friends learn to overcome these troubles and have a stronger bond. We grow together, learn together, share together, and have fun together. That is what makes students who attend Evergreen High School so proud to be part of the spirit. by Sheila Smith Student Life 45
