THINKING BACK... Why, I remember once in '66--I was serving aboard USS Everett F. Larson at the time--when... Sea stories, tall tales, just-plain-facts, or what-have-you, are more convincing and are easier to tell if you have something to helpfyou to remember what totalk about, where to get started, and how to describe it. That is the objective of this cruise book, to help you explain what you heard and saw, where you were, what your various jobs were, and why you had to be in WESTPAC for over six months. You said you wanted pictures, so the cruise book staff tried to comply by filling the book with them. This leaves a lot of the story telling up to you. ' When you start telling your stories, keep the following points in mind. There was plenty of hard work on this cruise--hard work and long hours--but you know there were many other things, also. There was the tremendous sense of pride as Larson met her com- mitments and showed the squadron what she could .as a result of ' work and ability, there was the satisfaction you gained as you did a dangerous, challenging job and proved that you were more than capable of handling itg there were the new places to see and to visit--new for some of you, and, finally, there were the good times, both aboard and ashore, that you enjoyed with your shipmates. So tell your tales and remember this book--this reminder of what you did, and are doing, for your country and her concepts of freedom and human dignity--as you tell them. Don't be ashamed to reach for it and say, Why, I remember once in '66... Iv. f. rffnfv S-SV4-,dl ff! -1 f. .x . -1 ev, i E V E H46 !,....J 'f I 3 --- ,...f-...
