Debbie Shield coma petes in a cross country meet which involves running a course which is not limited to the for- mal track only, but the parking lot as well. Everett boy's cross country team has shown excellent individual performances. The varsity team is composed of five juniors, and one sophomore. With a record of two wins and three losses, they have been very competitive, losing only one meet by more than 10 points. Sophomore, Bruce Overstreet has been placing high regularly. On our course, he tied the school record and in a later meet improved his time by 10 seconds. Junior, Paul McKee, team captain, is developing into an i ' excellent runner. In his . . v E last meet, he took off eleven seconds from the course record. Paul and Bruce, along with Tony Padilla, Ken Stave, Thad Trepanier, and Mike Rider should continue to keep Everett in contention for a top position in the district meet. The boy's placed 5th in district. This was the first year that Everett High had a girls cross country team. It was led by freshman runner, Eunice O'Neil. Debbie Shield, a sophomore was the number two runner. They had a good season for first year team but they didn't place in district. Coach Jackson hopes that next season will be better because of the experience of this years team. h i'.. . K 4 77 1, . ,.vf',,mx-K :E ' 1? F . A, e. V fe it QJEJQ ,wwe-x , ., L,-A-iw 1. Only two members of this years squad were returning varsity players, co-captains Kathy Dahl and Meg Metzger. Kathy will be the only player not returning next season. The girls were tough contenders with every team they played and were involved with Cascade and Mariner High Schools in a play-off for a district birth. Photos: 1. The team has improved every year since its start in 1975. This year the team had many promising freshman with lots of enthusiasm. The team sent nine girls to regionalsg Linda Lucas, Lynette Weston, Liz Trepanier, Micki Anderson, Heather MacNamara, Paula Troxell, Kelly Karls, Stacy Fralick and Jenifer Chavez. Everett High was also represented in the state swim meet with Heather MacNamara swimming the 500 free style. 3 'K' 17' Photos: 1-captains Linda Lucas, Micki Anderson, coach Debbie McCollum, and captain Liz Trepanier 2-Graduat- ing seniors trying to he serious. 3-Team member Linda Lucas and coach cheer on team. 4-Trask and Lucas working out?'?? 5-Amy Overstreet in lane four and Lynette Weston in lane two waiting for the start in the Bellingham meet. 6- E.H.S. girl's swim team. One of the more remarkable characteristics of the 1977 Everett High Seagulls football team was the exceptionally high caliber of senior leadership and performance. All nineteen seniors on the team, lead by tri-captains Jeff Hutt, Scott McKay and Craig Smith were as fine a group of leaders as ever played for the Sea- gulls. These young men will be surely missed but never forgotten in the years to come. Throughout the season, defense proved to be the strength as Gulls while the offensive effort-green as grass early in the season-improved from week to week. The kicking game featuring Chuck Nelson's booming kicks had to be among the best in the state. The young Seagulls of '77-the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen-give EHS fans reason for optimism in the seasons to come, especially if these young men continue to perform up to the standards of excellence as set by the Seniors of the 1977 Seagull Football Team! 1977 Seagull arsity X 'I V61 Photos: 1. 'QF' T'-1 1 This year, because of the absence of a sophomore football team, the Junior Varsity team was made up of many Sophomores and Juniors, making it the youngest J.V. team in the conference. In every game, they went out and played against teams made up of people who had greater experience than themselves Even though the winfloss record may not be impressive, the experiences that they gained and the enthusiasm in which they played every game was very impressive. Next year, because of the absence of the many Seniors on the Varsity team, some of these J.V. players will step into starting roles on Varsity. If the experi- ences that they have acquired this year have taught them something, and if they play football with the same en- thusiasm as they played this year, next year may be an exciting year for Everett High Football. The displays were very orig- inal and imaginative. The seniors won first prize for their display, with the slogan, 'Keg the Pan- thersl The assembly showed much spirit from the fac- ulty as they performed skits, which depicted var- ious Hollywood TV shows, commercials, and ce- lebrities. The parade formed in front of the school, pro- ceeding down Colby to the stadium, then, a bon- fire, which helped arouse the students' spirit just before the game. E.H.S. played a good game against the Snoho- mish Panthers, unfortunately, we drew the de- fending state champions, which were rated 1791 in the state at the time of our game. Although Everett played an outstanding game, holding the Panthers to 14 points at the half, the panthers were victori- ous. Everett's team showed great pride and cour- age, but just couldn't beat the Panthers. ..so. ,,,, , t 2 3 Photos: 1. Cheerleaders and Yellkings lead the way to the stadium. 2. No question about the title of this smash London hit. So swift the action was, so involved the situations were, the rib-tickling plot left the audiences exhausted from laughter. Gal- loping in and out of the four doors of the English vic- arage was an American actor and actress, a cockney maid who had seen too many American movies, an old maid who touched alcohol for the first time in her life, four men in clergyman suits presented the prob- lem of which was which, for disguised as one was an escaped prisoner, and a sedate Bishop aghast at all of these things that went and the trump-up stories that were told him. It was a breathless show, fast tempo, and plenty of laughs. 4' : ' ' I 1' I , s 5' ls wffs, - hi , u I - - - . .,..f' 24474.47 r i ' . ff 'xv Q ' wddf 1.4 , f- -W 7 Msn 1 GK, vm f ' 1. The team employed a full court pressure defense utilizing its exceptional quickness and of- fensively, combined the fastbreak with a patient offense, looking for high percentage shots. The goal this year was to feed 65 families in the Ever- ett area. But, because of the large quantities of food contributed by the students of Everett High School, the Christmas Fund Drive committee was able to de- liver goods to about a total of 100 hundred families. Special thanks goes to the Boys Club and the Girls Club for their time and effort concerning the delivery of the goods. The members of these clubs said that the families enjoyed receiving the goods with which they had a more pleasant Christmas and New Years Holiday. The production played to sell out au- diences for six evenings with the title role being played alternating nights by Colleen Hinkle and Lisa Hoyle. Narrating the story and playing the lead of Honore LaChailles was Tim Olsong playing his handsome young playboy nephew, Gaston LaChailles, was Duane Roehon. Other leads were: Mary Ruth Edwards as Gigi's grandmother, Mamitag Lori 'Q fl .. N Q 3 4 Gigi Rathburn as Mamita's sister, Alicia, and Steve Lewis as Gaston's Lawyer, Maitre Dufresne. There was a cast of 25, a full orchestra, and a crew of 15. Gigi takes place in Paris, the city of romance, around the turn of the century. The story is narrated by Honore LaChailles, a confirmed bachelor, who is particularly wise in the nature of women, love, and marriage. Gaston is extremely wealthy, handsome, and the object of desire to half the women in Paris. He finds life quite a bore and is happy only when visiting the humble home of lnez Alverez, Gigi's grandmother, and playing cards with Gigi, who is just a refreshing child to him. Inez CMamitaJ has plans for Gigi to become a lady of breeding and for assistance has called upon her sister, Alicia to leach Gigi how to please her courtiers. One evening before Gaston is to attend a par- ty in his honor, he decides instead to stay with Mamita and Gigi for dinner and cards. All three have a bit too much champagne and Gigi wins her bet with Gaston that should he lose the game he will take her to Trouville by the sea. Their holiday proves to be the most exciting Gaston has had in years. Also at Trouville, Mamita meets Honore by chance they recall a romance between them many years ago. Arriving back in Paris, Gaston realizes his love for Gigi and requests her hand in marriage. 7 Echo Turned The Junior Prom This year's Junior Prom, in honor of the Senior class, was held on May 6th in the Everett High School gym, from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. The theme was Fantasy and the Junior class did a great job with decorations. Seagals Keep E H The Seagals have been very active this year. They did two drills during football season, including Classical Gas and Zingit. Also during football season they had a Winter Sports Banquet for the varsity football team. During basketball season, in one of the two routines they did, the Seagals combined with the Cascade Bruin- ettes for a drill routine called Carousel, which was per- formed during halftime at the Everett - Cascade game. Through out the year, the Seagals, with the help of Nadene Watd, their new advisor, had been trying to raise enough money to go to Victoria with the band and to go to statewide competition in Spokane. While trying to raise money, the Seagals were constantly saluting sports. When they salute a team they make locker signs for every mem- ber of the team, then they attend the game that they are saluting, and then they make food for the team. The Seagal Club has proven to be a very active and important group at Everett High. 2 '15 i I A . 4 5 148 J , W' NJ .-1 ,. ff. .. The Band formed part of the nucleus for the Marching Hand in the Fall, Pep Band during the Winter, and Parade Hand during the Spring. As instrumentation allows, the Concert Band also participated in concert performances presented by the Music Department. Stage was a special elective designed to offer instrumental musicians an opportunity to explore the areas of Jazz Literature. Membership was limited by a fixed instrumentation which consisted of5 saxaphones, 5 trumpets, 5 troinbones, lead guitar, bass, set, and piano. The Everett High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble was made up of approximately 50 musicians. Membership was determined for the year by auditioning the band, in combination with the Everett High School Concert Band, functioned as a marching unit during the Fall football season, as Pep Hand during the Basketball Season, and as a Parade Hand in the Spring. The Ensemble also had responsibility for preparing and presenting its own Concert Schedule during the year. The Everett High School String Ensemble was in its third year with I2 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 2 bass viols, and piano. lt performed at various functions throughout the community and school and it was the nucleus of the orchestra chosen for our annual Spring Operetta. Next year these strings will be joined by wind and percussion instrumentalists to form the first full orchestra which Everett High has had in many years. 150 Photos: I tBack Row, I,-Rl, Carl Cronk, Dennis l.ee, Dan Nolan, Glen Fisher, llrett Harvey, Doug Misko, Todd Bunger, Gilbert Mell. lilrd Row, I,-Rl Cheryl Troxell, Don Alsup, John Alsup, Paula Troxell, Theron Parker, Steve Huffman. l,at'on Ferguson, Robert Dahl, l,uea l.und, l,ori lloyd, Roni Hales, John Wells, Irene Fischer, Darleen Havertield, Sheryl Elmore, Curt Jasper. t2nd Row, li-RJ, Aaron McMceal, Byron Fred Dawson, Brian Smith, Mike Cardoza, John Villesvik, Glenn Camp' hell, Kim Dreghorn, Jane Lundgran, Suzanne Hall, Ginny Hall, Tammi Olsen, Paula l.ienhowt, Karen Suenson. lFirst.
