One day, Erwin, who was fed up with his wife, Aud- reyCLori Rathbun and his brother-in-law Clarence QDan Nelsonj, decides to go to a saloon instead of going to work. There he encountered three gam- blers CChris Snyder, Steve Heiretj who are having some trouble picking the winning horses. Erwin loudly proclaims that he hasn't missed a winner in six months, which was true, but Erwin did it all on pa- per. He soon finds him- self picking horses for the gamblers, who are winning constantly. Er- win's not showing to work frustrated his boss, the president of the Holly Cheer Greeting Card Com- pany, J.G. Carver, to the point of a personal investi- gation into his disappear- ance. He needed Erwin's greeting card poems and he was sure that his com- petitors had kidnapped him. Eventually, through a great changing of events, the big race was won, Er- win's boss is doubling Er- win's salary, and Erwin swears off gambling for- ever. 0' e mmf GX K , C? 4 Everett High School's 23rd Annual Spring Operette The Sound of Music by Richard Rogers and Oscar Ham- merstein ll opened March 24-26. lt originally was performed in New York on November 16, 1959, and although it is 17 years old, it still is one of the best loved of all musicals. The E.H.S. team followed with a loss to Woodway, but came back with an exciting win over the arch rival. Cascade. After losing a close game to Nia- riner, they defeated Lake Wash- ington in a non-conference game. This year's team was com- parably small to other teams in the Western Conference. They overcame this disadvantage with hustle and enthusiasm play. By employing though, full count de- fence, the team was able to play evenly with all competitions. 40. Thad Trepanier 32. Through such serv- ice, the Boys' Club has kept in stride with the reputation they have acquired through the years. This year's Boys' Club is no exception. We started off the year with Homecoming. The Boys' Club provided escorts for the candidates as well as help- ing to make Homecoming a big success. The Boys' Club also provided the community with such services as delivering Thanksgiving baskets to needy families. GIRLS' CLUB Early in the fall the Girlsg Club sponsored a tea for all girls new to Everett High. The purpose of this tea was for them to meet upperclassmen, learn school cheers and see some of the fashions that were new for fall. The Tolo and Homecoming dance kept the cabinet busy during October and November. Their annual service project is the Basket Drive. This year it occurred at Thanksgiving.
