This was proved when it became necessary to provide for a third hour of choir, in addition to the already organized Advanced and Beginners' choirs of first and second periods. This great interest taken in the choral department of music at EHS might be accredited to the inspiring direction of Miss Norma Ringman. Her choice of music and interest in the students, as well as her outstanding background in this field, have established her as an accomplished director in the department of music. The choral groups are an excellent example of her work in dealing with high school students. The students' cooperation, vitality and willingness to work, also the pure enjoyment they receive from singing, proved to be great assets in developing these three choirs. On their calendar this year were many special events, including parf ticipation in the cityfwide performance of 'kThe Messiah. The choirs sang at the first football game of the season, when, traditionally there is a memorial observance. It was inspiring as the strains of God Bless America and America the Beautiful echoed throughout the listening stadium. The choir added their talents to the Hi Jinx with two unique numbers. They also deserve credit for presenting a very fine Thanksgiving assembly. Christmas time is the busy time of the year for the music department. The Yuletide season's loved music was heard carolled through the halls of EHS. A Christmas program, which included the choirs, band, orchestra. and drama department, replaced the usual Christmas pageant. The choir provided both solemn and joyous music and a realistic version of A Night Before Christmas. During the holiday the advanced choir entertained the P.T.A., many men and women's clubs of the city, and performed at the Eaglesi Christmas party. They also represented Everett High in a musical program which was recorded over radio station KING, Seattle. This prof gram included many choirs of the neighboring high schools. A student body assembly was next on the agenda with St. Valentines day as its theme. Later the holiness of the Easter Season was symbolized with many fitting numbers. An annual event was the Spring Concert which included selections from each group in the music department. The massed choirs and the entire high school music department afforded a splendid musical background for the entertaining production. A few of the musical selections featured were: You'll Never Walk Alone, I Wish I Wuzf' For All The Saints, and Lost In The Night, with june Kosbab as soloist. Many long hours of practice were put into this event, but the results were well rewarding. In addition they also entered many students in the Western Washington solo contest, who received excellent and superior ratings. Miss Ringman's students rehearsed daily in the choral room where they learned to sing and interpret fine choral music. It has been their wish that the general public, as well as the students of EHS, through finer concerts and programs, should have a clearer understanding and appreciaf tion of better music.
