gfuziaux 4.gfz1rzQfzfs The Torch Soclety whlch was orlgmally known as the Everett Hugh School Servuce League was organlzed by forty students and a faculty committee of sux members In January of l9l7 The flrst president was Carl Ulonska who had been chairman of a commuttee which drew up the constltutvon that was used untnl I927 In that year the present name was guven to the club Its purpose IS to promote scholarshnp among the students by gnvlng ut a hugh place on the lust of school actuvutnes and also to recognlze the honor students Anyone may obtain membership In the Society providing he has the necessary ponnts The points are based on grades receuved durmg the prevuous semester Point values are A five povnts B three pounts C two pounts D no pounts andX mlnus two points Points also are given for school actlvutues and many have taken advan tage of thus system to obtain their puns earller than usual Only four subjects each semester may be counted In the nlnth grade Futty ponnts must be earned by the each semester or the student wall be dropped from the Society For a three bar pun elghty pounts must be earned by at least the end of the lunuor year and one hundred ten pounts by the end of the sensor year for a Permanent Torch pm A complete flle us kept of each student and as soon as he has the required number of polnts he recelves his certificate and pun The one two and three bar certuflcates are awarded at Torch meetlngs whale the Permanent Torch puns are gnven at an all school award assembly Federal Judge Lloyd Black formerly of Everett was the speaker at the assembly held for the awardmg of Permanent Torch certlflcates earned nn the semester endung last June Twenty one people who had the requlred pounts received the honor TORCH OFFICERS lst semester Bull Severson TORCH OFFICERS 2nd semester Howard Srlver presudent Beverly Johnson vnce presndent and presldent Glennce Lyon secretary treasurer and George Bussell secretary treasurer Paul Baker vrce presndent PIN AND CREDENTIAL COMMITTEE Ist semester PIN AND CREDENTIALS COMMITTE Ist semester Neal McCormuck Mary Jane Best Howard Nell McCormack Bull Severson Marlon Jelluson Sulver Herb Tegelberg Herb Tegelberg 28 I . . . . ,, . 151W 51,1 Once agaun the Seagull Club whose purpose us to foster and promote school spurut concluded a successful year Meetungs were held approxumately once a month wuth theur advuser Mr Arthur Ramstad Boys are admutted to the club after havung earned a letter and strupe un one of the major sports After beung awarded hus letter and payung hus dues a senuor automatucally becomes a member but an underclass man must waut tull the begunnung of the followung semester before he may attend the meetungs Keepung order at the many home basketball games us a project of the Seagull Club whose floor squad prohubuted smokung handled the publuc address system and kept students off the playung floor after the games At pep assemblues and games the downstaurs sectuon was reserved for hugh school students to concentrate actuve support and the center of the sectuon was reserved for the Seagal Club To com memorate the record of our basketball teams a plaque showung Everetts standung un the cross state league dustruct and state tournaments for the past years was pur chased and hung un the gym In coordunatuon wuth the Elks Club the Seagulls once agaun presented the an nual Queen of Hearts Dance at the Elks Home Offucers for the year were as follows Duck Spence presudent Muke Carlson vuce presudent and Mert Waller secretary treasurer 6511111 glad' 6615 Early burds of the hugh school could be aptly applued to the Electruc Trade Class Whule the rest of the students were sleepung soundly these fellows were busuly preparung for a day s work At enght o clock sharp they began theur morn ung whuch was usually devoted to studyung raduo theory Lately they have been assemblung sux tube raduo kuts and sellung them thus makung a luttle money on the su e To become a member of the electruc trade class one must have some knowl edge of electrucuty The government subsuduzes one half the money for thus study provudung the students are learnung the trade for a uob The class belongs to the Electruc Trade Club a natuonal organuzatuon whuch keeps the students morale and unterests at a hugh peak Presudent Ray Vandermeer dud a fune uob runnung the club last semester ff 95415 Luvung up to theur creed to create mauntaun and extend throughout the school and communuty hugh standards of Chrustuan character these Hu Y boys once agaun have concluded a very outstandung year The Everett Hu Y whuch us a branch of a natuonal organuzatuon of clubs met every Wednesday evenung from 7 30 to 8 30 at the Y M C A Representatuves from thus dustruct attended an area Hu Y congress and dustruct meetung un the sprung and fall At all the home football games the Hu Y paddle squad was on duty keepnng people back from the playung fueld and patrollung the fences An outstandung event of the fall semester was the annual cuty wude Father and Son Banquet held un the Y audutoruum It was acclaumed as the best yet by the capacuty crowd whuch at tended The S400 from the tag day sale whuch was turned over to the Hu Y was un turn presented to the War Prusoners Fund Durung the wuruter the club sponsored a cuty wude old clothes druve through the grade schools Annually a Chrustmas dance at Louue s us sponsored by the club and thus year ut featured a guant tree and a Santa Claus They also sponsored a uunuor basketball tournament un the hugh school After the state tournament a dunner dance was held un honor of the basketball squad Advused by Mr Artue Whuteley and Mr Art Ramstad offucers were as follows Furst semester Presudent Dell Russell vuce presudent Jack Adamson secretary Bull Blue treasurer Cal Laudy Second semester Presudent Bull Severson vuce presu dent Eldon Schalka secretary Bud Harung treasurer Mert Waller 27 1 , , , . . 1 1 ' 1 1 1 1 ' ' . , . 1 1 ' 1 1 1 '- . , . , . 1 11 11 1 - 1 1 1 ' 1 1 - ' .
