W Mm Realuzung that un war tume even more than un tume of peace the young men of the natuon s hugh schools should be prepared to go forth as cutuzens and solduers who wull be a credut to theur country the Boys Club thus year has stressed mulutary fitness Thus organuzatuon has trued to get the boys acquaunted wuth the various branches of the servuce the opportunutues offered chances for advancement and lufe un general un these branches Thus years offucers who were advus d by Mr Kolkana uncluded Cal Laudy president Wally Hublou vuce presudent Harlan Duckey secretary and Reginald Scodeller treasurer At the begunnung of the year the varuous commuttee chaurmen were chosen and these then selected theur commuttees lt has been the Program Commuttee under Dell Russell that has arranged the programs for the several meet ungs un keepung wuth the udea of mulutary preparedness Phul Cope un the October meetung told of hus trups around the world and hus experuences un the Olympuc Games Chuef Quartermaster Jack Smuth showed a movue and spoke about the U S Coast Cuuard Major Torchy Torrence of the Marine Corps descrubed the job that servuce us doung and the Importance of athletic actuvuty to the men Absolutely necessary to the smooth operation of any hugh school us the Fure quured by law Thus year the squad has b en under the durectuon of Monte Smalley Cettung Iuttle prause but really one of the most hard workung of the commuttees un the school us the Traffuc Squad Rain or shune as classes change these untrepud souls venture forth to flag down motorusts who would unvade the sanctity of Colby Avenue Mules Irvune headed thus group Muke Carlson was chairman of the Publucuty Commuttee These fellows arrange for and put up sugns publucuzung all the games school dances and other events Dur ung the week of December 7 they sponsored a contest to encourage stamp sales For every dollars worth of stamps bought a student receuved a guess as to the number of pennues un a pule un the trophy case The Scholarshup Commuttee thus year extended uts scope Any student who wanted aud un a certaun subject could apply to thus committee for help Thus these coaches sacrufuced theur own study peruods However the results have been more than gratufyung wuth the greater number of those helped havung umproved remark ably Paul Baker wa the chairman of thus group ln all kunds of weather the Campus Squad also dud uts but These boys had as theur responsubuluty keepung the lawn and campus un as neat and orderly an ap pea 'tce as possuble by rernovung all trasn and other materual lutterung ut BOYS CLUB OFFICERS Reggie Scodel ler Treasurer Harlan Dickey Secretary John Kolkana Adviser Wallace Hublou Vuce presudent Cal Laudy Presudent 20 . BOARD OF CONTROL Seated Dell Russell Ceculua Gagnon George Bussell Standing Mal colm Snyder Harlan Dickey Bull Nichols Chuck Trask Everett Hugh School was represented by the enture Student Councul when the Leaders Conference was held January 26 at the Masonic Temple Members from Snohomish Monroe Curanute Falls Edmonds and other county schools were also present Several unterestung speakers were heard after whuch lunch was served un the banquet hall ln the afternoon the meetung adjourned to the Junuor College for a general discussion of common problems of the county schools The question of stripes for sports was brought to the Councul who decided to put before the student body a constitutional amendment stating that each sport un hugh school must have a regular coach turnouts and schedule comparable to other hugh schools un order to qualify for a strupe Thus amendment was approved by a vote of over seventy percent of the students A specual meetung was held February 2 and guests from Port Angeles were introduced Informal talks followed and the Port Angeles students were unvuted to the homes of the councul members for dunner In the evenung the enture group attended the Everett Bremerton basketball game During February the Councul were guests of Bremerton Hugh School After a uount meetung they were shown the new Bremerton school a beautiful buuldung which us nearung completion They saw the huge Navy Yard wuth all the large ships un drydock and after dunner attended Jun Mad a presentation of the senior class A return vusut to Everett was made by the Bremerton Councul March 2l Fol lowung a general meetung the guests and local councul members were served lunch un the cafeteria They stayed for the hugh school play Night of January l6th staged un the udutoruum that evenung Two thousand E books were prunt d un the sprung and wull be suffucuent to last for several years lt us a general guude to Everett Hugh School explaining the actuvutues and clubs and containing a copy of the constututuon Each student wull be presented one of these books as he enters school The Judicial Department of the Student Covernment the Board of Control is composed of three s niors two juniors and two sophomores who are chosen by the Student Council. It is indeed one of the school s highest honors to become a member of this board. Campus-cutters who had been listed in the Kodak three times were brought before the Board who dealt out the correct chastisement. Stu- dents who were noisy or rowdy in the theatres had their cases reviewed by the Board and their tickets were revoked as punishment. l9
