The Everett Crimson Tide Football Team opened the season with great optimism under second year coach James Tank Agnetta. The season began in Beverly with a difficult contest against the Tigers. Bobby Wallace started the Tide off in the right direction, throwing a touchdown pass to Darrin Nicoli. The conversion gave the Tide a short lived 8-0 lead. From then on it was all Beverly. Final score, Bever- ly 33 Everett 16. As the second game rolled around, so did Hurricane Gloria. The heavy winds prohibited the Tide ' s passing attack and Everett dropped on important G.B.L. clash at Somerville, 12-6. The third week saw Everett come home to the friendly confines of Everett Stadium. The Friday night rain didn ' t dampen the spirits of the Tide as Everett fought hard against the eventual G.B.L. champion Peabody Tanners. The Tide came away with a thrilling victory behind Wallace ' s three touchdown passes, two to Rob Dascoli and one to Rich Vacca. Final score, Everett 22 Peabody 14. The rain followed the Tide to Brookline for a non-league clash. Brookline ' s defense dominated and Everett played their worst game of the year, losing 29-8. The scene switched back to Everett but the rain continued. The Quincy Presidents were no match for the Tide as Everett dominated. The offensive line of Nunzio Leo, Mike- Catalano, Ralph Cippolone, Mark Cheffro, and Jim Mitchell gave Wallace great protection all day long as Everett cruised to an easy 28-12 victory. Everett ' s first sign of sunlight came at home the following week against Arlington. The Tide defense was, as usual, awesome. Captain and team Most Valuable player Mark Rotondo had a tremendous game and season. The defensive front of Steve DeSandis, Joe Sheehan, and Sandro Pendenza dominated Arlington ' s running game. The Spy Ponder ' s defense was every bit as good as Everett ' s as the Tide was shut-out for the only time the season, 10-0. The rain returned against arch Medford the following week at Everett. The Tide defense was again outstanding as linebackers Rotondo and Jim Mason were phenomenal. Everett scored early on as Elidio Amaral one-yard plunge and a safety set up by Rotondo Everett made sure that the eight points would hold up as they defeated the Mustangs, 8-6. The Tide travelled to Revere with a chance to get the record to an even 4-4. Everett struck early with a Wallace to Dascoli Dass that was set up by an earlier Nicoli to Billy Bertocchi pass on a half-back option pass Rotondo ran back a punt late in the game and Scott Bessler kicked the point after to complete the scoring in a Tide 15-0 victor, ' The defense was again outstanding with Jim Galanle and Joe Kelly coming up with two quarterback sacks each. Next the Tide travelled to Maiden for the most important game of the year. A Tide victory would have given Everett a share of the G.B.L. title but it just wasn ' t to be. After a scoreless first half, the Tornadoes broke it wide open with five second-half touchdowns to give Maiden a 35-1 4 victory. Although the rain had gone for the annual Thanksgiving Day clash with Chelsea, Everett had a different element to deal with. That element was snow. This game was no contest as the Tide dominated from start to finish. The final score was Everett 31 Chelsea 0. Everett ' s 5-5 record was their best in the last ten years. Their hard work and efforts will always be remembered, as some of the old Tide Pride was restored in Everett.
