PARL1N MEMORIAL LIBRARY EVERETT. MASS. PARLIN MEMORIAL LIBRARY EVERETT. MASS. 1 ft 13 The Munsters 21 The Everett Crimson Tide Football Team opened the season with great optimism under second year coach James Tank Agnetta. The season began in Beverly with a difficult contest against the Tigers. Bobby Wallace started the Tide off in the right direction, throwing a touchdown pass to Darrin Nicoli. The conversion gave the Tide a short lived 8-0 lead. From then on it was all Beverly. Final score, Bever- ly 33 Everett 16. As the second game rolled around, so did Hurricane Gloria. The heavy winds prohibited the Tide ' s passing attack and Everett dropped on important G.B.L. clash at Somerville, 12-6. The third week saw Everett come home to the friendly confines of Everett Stadium. The Friday night rain didn ' t dampen the spirits of the Tide as Everett fought hard against the eventual G.B.L. champion Peabody Tanners. The Tide came away with a thrilling victory behind Wallace ' s three touchdown passes, two to Rob Dascoli and one to Rich Vacca. Final score, Everett 22 Peabody 14. The rain followed the Tide to Brookline for a non-league clash. Brookline ' s defense dominated and Everett played their worst game of the year, losing 29-8. The scene switched back to Everett but the rain continued. The Quincy Presidents were no match for the Tide as Everett dominated. The offensive line of Nunzio Leo, Mike- Catalano, Ralph Cippolone, Mark Cheffro, and Jim Mitchell gave Wallace great protection all day long as Everett cruised to an easy 28-12 victory. Everett ' s first sign of sunlight came at home the following week against Arlington. The Tide defense was, as usual, awesome. Captain and team Most Valuable player Mark Rotondo had a tremendous game and season. The defensive front of Steve DeSandis, Joe Sheehan, and Sandro Pendenza dominated Arlington ' s running game. The Spy Ponder ' s defense was every bit as good as Everett ' s as the Tide was shut-out for the only time the season, 10-0. The rain returned against arch Medford the following week at Everett. The Tide defense was again outstanding as linebackers Rotondo and Jim Mason were phenomenal. Everett scored early on as Elidio Amaral one-yard plunge and a safety set up by Rotondo Everett made sure that the eight points would hold up as they defeated the Mustangs, 8-6. The Tide travelled to Revere with a chance to get the record to an even 4-4. Everett struck early with a Wallace to Dascoli Dass that was set up by an earlier Nicoli to Billy Bertocchi pass on a half-back option pass Rotondo ran back a punt late in the game and Scott Bessler kicked the point after to complete the scoring in a Tide 15-0 victor, ' The defense was again outstanding with Jim Galanle and Joe Kelly coming up with two quarterback sacks each. Next the Tide travelled to Maiden for the most important game of the year. A Tide victory would have given Everett a share of the G.B.L. title but it just wasn ' t to be. After a scoreless first half, the Tornadoes broke it wide open with five second-half touchdowns to give Maiden a 35-1 4 victory. Although the rain had gone for the annual Thanksgiving Day clash with Chelsea, Everett had a different element to deal with. That element was snow. This game was no contest as the Tide dominated from start to finish. The final score was Everett 31 Chelsea 0. Everett ' s 5-5 record was their best in the last ten years. Their hard work and efforts will always be remembered, as some of the old Tide Pride was restored in Everett. Riptide EHS Football Top Row L-R Darrin Nicoli, Steven DeSandis, John O ' Leary, Steven Cifra, John Scolaro, Michael Catalano, Michael Lavoti, Fredrick Veader, John McCarthy, Scott Bessler, Steven O ' Connor, Bottom Row L-R, John Nye, Paul Perrillo, Richard Vacca, Robert Wallace, Ralph Cipollone, Mark Rotondo, James Galante. 24 25 First row standing: Coach Rainey Sachetta, Judy Leo, Pam McGee, Racheal Perry, Maureen Habeeb, Maureen McDonald, Micnelle Garren, Kristen Erickson, Bottom Row Kneeling, Donna Fleet, Kim Rotondo, Loree Griffin, Co Capt Janet Colameta, Co Capt Pam Griffin, Kelly Gillespie, Jennifer D ' Agostino, R ' enee Roborts. The 1 985 Field Hockey season saw history being made as the Crimson Tide qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association State Tournament for the first time since its inception fourteen years ago. The Tide, which finished the season with an im- pressive record of eight wins, five losses, and one tie, was led by co-captains Pam Griffin and Janet Colameta both of whom earned Greater Boston League All-Star Honors. Head coach Lorraine Sachetta, who was chosen as the 1 985 G. B. L. Coach of the Year, attributed much of the Tide ' s success to a well- balanced attack. The Crimson Tide netted the ball forty times this season while allowing only sixteen goals in their fourteen game schedule. The offensive attack was paced by Pam Griffin, Janet Colameta and Maureen McDonald who were the team ' s leading scorers. Judy Leo and Jennifer D ' Agostino also contributed greatly to the Tide ' s scoring. Maureen Habeeb, Loree Griffin, Kelley Gillespie, Kim Rotondo, and Racheal Perry made up the stingy defense, while goalkeeper Michele Garron chalked up six shutouts for the Tide. Other members who contributed to the Crimson Tide ' s success were Pam McGee and juniors Renee ' Roberts and Donna Fleet. The Tide ' s season ended with a tough 2-0 loss in the State Tournament to a highly rated Melrose team. Different Strokes EHS Field Hockey 29 « II Hometown Heroes In 1985, the E.H.S. soccer team enjoyed their best season in their history, as the crimson kickers won 5 games for the first time ever. The season did not start out well for Everett as they went 0-7- 1 through the first half of the year. Things reached a low point after Everett was crushed by undefeated Medford, 8-0. Suddenly Everett came alive. The defense, led by senior captains John Barry and Dan Bertocchi, solidified and held the opposition to an average of less than 2 goals a game through the next 1 1 games. In this span, the offense also came to life led by Junior Mike Delsano, and senior Arthur The Polish Prince Weglewski, along with senior captain Hugo Arloro. Never before had an Everett team played with such intensity as the Tide did over this 1 1 game stretch. Everett shut out Maiden twice. 1-0, Revere 2-0, and Pope John 4-0 in this stretch as Barry, senior Dario Freza, and juniors Mike Mastoocola and Brendan Walsh played nearly flawless ball while playing full 80 minute games to keep the pressure off All- Star goalie Scott Weldon. As reflected by the scores, the offense, exploded over the Back Row: Coach John Finn, Tiziano Pasquale, Sal Sclafani, Mike Delsono, Wendel Smith, Dario Freza, Brendan Walsh, Mike Mastracola, Brendan McNeil, Middle Row: Chuck Repucci, Jose Luigi Botari, Scott Weldon, Renato Tulo, Conrad Crawford, Pichet Chay, Mike Raimo, Front Row: Rob Licata, Captain- Dan Bertocchi, Captain-Hugo Arloro, Captain-John Barry, Mark McNeil. second half, averaging almost 2 goals per game. Everett ' s final record was 5-12-2. At the end of the season seniors Barry, Weldon and Weglewski, along with Junior Delsonno, were selected to the G.B.L. All- Star team. The remainder of the 1985 team includes senior Conrad Crawford; juniors — Tiziano Pasquale, Sal Sclafani, Brendan McNeil, Renato Tulo and Chuck Repucci; sophomores — Mike Raimo; and freshmen Luigi Botari, Pitchet Chay, Tom Gorgenyi, and Wendel Smith. One day before the season opener, Jack Jancey was appointed coach. Many of our hockey players joined to form one of the largest teams in several years. Lead by co-captains, Peter Porcaro (senior) and John Garron (junior), the season opener was tough one against two-time G.B.L. champs, Arlington. Although the Tide has only three veteran players, Bob Beauchamp (senior) and co-captains Peter Porcaro and John Garron, they pulled together for crushing victories over Somerville (17-35) and Chelsea (18-40). Overcoming chronic injuries and gaining experience, the Tide has high hopes for a successful next season. Where are the girls? Lone girl runner, Kerry Dean (sophomore), had a great year by coming in second place twice, against Maiden and Somerville, with an easy first place against Chelsea. She placed 18th overall in the league with hopes of placing in the top 1 0 next year. %4 37 MUPPET BABIES 40 Charlene Morrione Cheryl Demers Annemarie Quealy Bonnie Jean Phil brook Bobby Wallace Jeffrey Mendez Michelle Duffy Jeanine Montalbano Donna Haydel Christine Barbanti Rachel Addonizio Stephanie Wilson John Capodilupo Ralph Cipollone Rene Cuto Lisa Giordano Rita Cammarata Paula Sclafani Joe Cloutier Sheila Warner Anthony Sannella James White Dianne Hoffman Robyn Lester Lori Vertullo Angela Kennedy George Jannino James Mangraviti Lisa Whippie Steven Lucas Vernon Goyetche Janme Gordon Terry Wellner Mike Vitukevich Carrie Coffin Grace Tiebbes Michelle Marciello John O ' Leary Richard Vacca Scott Bessler Debbie Triant Jennifer Vitale Vincent Capone Chris Pustizzi Paul Tierney Robert Dean Joanne Dumas Liz Foye Joel Porter Robert Beauchamp Letitia Clark Kenneth Carey Chris Watson Rita Penta Nancy Giunta Kelly Higgins Judy Leo Brigid lozza Stephen Sabella Tina Terenzi 42 Maria Ciacciarelli Maureen Habeeb Andrea Baiocchi Betsy Canty Donna Johnson Janet Colameta Pam Griffin Christine Rizzo David Wilson Dianne Constance JoAnne DePietro Scott Weldon Pam McGee Lisa Warren Lisa LaMonica Brian DePerri Peter Ward Lisa Buonopane Sondra Barham Allyson Summers Maureen McDonald Christine Peterson Coreene Kebadjan Susan Neal Marie Tomasello Monica Ariza Thomas Skane Ronnie Bartles Kelly Auger Laura Winsor 43 14 Plumer Street Legal Secretary Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king, and a king ain ' t satisfied til he rules everything. Chorus 93 The 1985-86 Crimson Tide basketball team is led by Co-Captains Paul Tierney and Kevin Noonan. Junior Robert Fialli combined with these two to create one of the best trios in the Greater Boston League. Other members of the squad include seniors Chris DeLillo, Steve lO ' Connor, and John Boress. Juniors Rob Dascoli, Elidio Amaral, Randy Noe, Mike LaCourt, Joe Trevasani, and Archie Carais. Sopho- mores Joe Sheehan and Ronnie Connon. The Tide is off to a terrific start at the midpoint of season. They have a 6-1 record in the tough Greater Boston League, and a 8-3 record overall. Both non-league losses, however, have come against two of the best teams in Eastern Mass, Cambridge Rindge and Latin and Brookline. There have been many highlights already, in the season that deserve mentioning. There was Noonan ' s 32 point effort opening night at home against Newton North. Included in the 32 points was a buzzer-beating 20 footer that gave Everett a two point victory. Also there was another buzzer-beater, this one by Tierney at Revere giving Everett another two point victory. Fialli was not without his great moments in the young season as he had an outstanding week against Cnelsea an Arlington, scoring 18 and 20 points in these two games. For these efforts Fialli was given the Star-of-Week award by the Boston Globe. While Everett prepares itself for a stretch drive, the faithful Tide fans optimistically await to see if Tide can continue their winning ways. If they can continue winning they will receive an invitation to the Eastern Mass. Tournament. Everett has not been in the tournament for the last two years and a trip this year would restore the Tide Pride that has been lost in those two years. With the team efforts and un- selfishness that have been displayed so far this season, there doesn ' t seem to be any doubt about who the class of the Greater Boston League is. E.H.S. BASKETBALL 7rfR 20 i Night Court Back Row: Coach Tom Gibson, Derek Ross, Tony Dinatale, Todd Jacobsen, Sandro Pendenza, Rich Vacca, Derek McCarthy, Jim Stilwell, John Jannino, Scott Weldon, Brian Morley, Assistant Coach Don Concannon. Front Row: Steven Witkus, David Ravanesi, Steve Sabella, Phil Imbrescia, Chris Denatale, Mike DiBattista, John Garron Hugo Aloro, John McDonough. EHS Hockey Coach Tom Gibson knew the Everett High Hockey team had its work cut out for them for the 85-86 season. Too many veterans graduated and too many of the sophomores and juniors did not develop enough to warrant a good outlook for the year. Hustle was never the problem, but, putting the puck in the net was, and, worse, keeping the puck out was even a bigger problem. Three goalies were in the battle for chief net keeper . . Seniors Phil Imbrescia and Mike DiBattista alter- nated last year, but, a little freshman, Chris DiNatale started to peek into the picture and pushed the seniors to better games . . Offense and defense was scarred by the same flame ... not enough stopping and not enough scoring. Later in the season the lines which were messed up earlier by injuries started to ignite and the scoring started to come. Sabella, Vacca, Witkus, Weldon, Pendenza, and a later comer, Ravanesi lit the enough to push some of the better teams before los- ing. Later on, Young freshman goalie DiNatale and freshman Jim Stilwell started to see action. Steadies on defense were John Garron, John McDonovoh, Tony DiNatale, Todd Jacobson, Derek McCarthy, and backchecking John Jannino, Derek Ross, Chuckie Reppucci, and Brian Morley, Hugo Arloro was counted on for much service, but, an injury kept him out for the year. 38 shots on net against Peabody was not enough for a victory. Nor was super games against Brockton and Waltham and the always powerful Arlington. The Tide had Arlington three to three after two periods, but defensive lapses on the back line and up front cost the game. At this time, seven games remain to be played and the spirit of the club is high enough to bring a respectable season for their efforts. Assistant Coach Don Concannon, Capt. John Garron, Capt Steve Sabella, Coach Tom Gibson. MlllllMBII mil 100 Top: Coach Mr. Baldi, Stacy Rotondo, Kim Rotondo, Rachel Perry, Capt. Maureen Habeeb, Janet Colameta, Claudia Vigalietti, Tina Vigalietti, Bottom: Michelle Garron, Maureen McDonald, Capt. Pam Griffin, Kelly Gillespie, Loree Griffin E.H.S. Girls Basketball The 1985-86 Everett High School Girls ' Basketball Team is captained by Pam Griffin and Maureen Habeeb. Both Pam and Maureen are 3 year starters at EHS and are strong candidates for the Greater Boston League All Star Team. In addition, the Crimson squad consists of 3 other seniors. They are Janet Colameta, who is a 4 year starter, Maureen McDonald and Tina Viglietti. The Everett season started slowly with several losses to strong non league competition. However, The Crimson has recently rebounded and the team has become one of the powers of the Greater Boston League. Mr. Baldi who is in his Eighth year as Varsity Coach, believes that this year ' s team is the most talented team that he has coached at Everett High School. The Tide is well-served by underclassmen. In Orlando Everett will be competing for over $1 0,000 in gifts and awards presented by Personal Products Company and Varsity Spirit Fashions and Supplies. The Varsity all-girl award was presented to Everett High School from Everett, Massachusetts. The j udges scores are based on gymnastics, dancing and general cheerleading skills in each of these four competitive levels. Each squad, comprised of up to 16 members, has 2 1 2 minutes to perform their routine. The judges are drawn from cheerleading coaches and former collegiate cheerleaders. The New England Regional Cheerleading Tourna- ment is one of 18 scheduled to take place this fall. These events are the qualifying competitions lead- ing up to the National Tournament, says Susan Keithler, spokesperson for Personal Products, sponsor of both the regional and national events. It was the year that the Class of ' 86 began its journey through what seemed as if the world was com- ing to an end. However, it turned out to be the most exciting experience of their lives. Freshman year. When these freshmen opened the doors to Everett High for the first time, many of them wished they wre back in Parlin. The easy l ife. But as September turned into October and October rolled into November, we on the most part loved not having to walk on the right side of the halls or write the Parlin charter everytime we did wrong. Life was beginning to look like a bowl of cherries compared to Junior High. Everett High for the next four years was going to be the time of our lives that we would never forget. In our sophomore year, we watched as freshmen were coming into the world we just got out of. They seemed to look so small and helpless, but not us, we passed that experience with flying colors. Speaking of colors, sports were coming along. Not as well as we expected, but new talent was blossoming. Each year was being played with a new high. A new goal was to be reached, just one step away every time. So far everything was falling into place, just right. But, before we seemed to realize where the time had gone, our sophomore year had slipped away. Junior year was to be something special. Not only was it going to be special, because we ' d be seniors in one more year. We were to also make friendships tighter than ever before. We all knew what we ' d take for courses, because Mr. Fo ' resteire told us all. He didn ' t want to see us in his office anymore. And why not? He knew we all loved him . . . guess we drove him crazy. Was he the one to make Mr. Malione change the Guidance Counselors to alphabetical order? We also knew that those seniors were having a heck of a lot more fun than we were. Time flew by, in early spring, it was Junior Prom time. The committee worked hard to make the date one to be remembered. If the decorations sagged and eyes started to close towards the end of the evening, not a soul noticed for it was one of the most wonderful evenings to remember. Toward the end of Junior year, there was a sudden change of class officers. The votes were counted, the count was in and in the final run Bobby Wallace was chosen over Tracy Ahern to be our new class president. Tracy had served us well in the 2 years she had been our class president and we thank her. Also, Bobby will be the best choice as Tracy was. Back to sports, there was a big event. Junior year had been a good one for Everett High Cheerleaders. They have been chosen to participate in a state tournament. It was now summertime, and as the saying goes, No more pencils, no more books, no more teacher ' s dirty looks and last, no more finals for that year. What we didn ' t know or realize was that to most of us it was our last summer of freedom before we started our Senior year and probably continued into the working world. As we cast off, ready to ship out on the last row of our Everett High School journey, we start off the year with a new gimmick, NO MORE SEVEN DAY RULE I guess we finally won, and who would be behind it. None other than our Mr. Leo. You don ' t suppose he ' s turning into a softy, do you? Well, that ' s something we will never find out. Also, the school had become computerized. Quoting Mr. Dolan, You people are lucky to be getting out in time. Aside from the good, there was the bad, the fear of passing for the year. Seeing that many of us were still on vacation in October, would it be hard? Not for the Class of ' 86. Time went on, we settled down for College Boards and survived. A lot of us anticipated that no matter what, this would be the best Senior year in Everett High history, and for the most part it was. Spring vacation had come and gone. The Senior Prom was here bringing joy, love, happiness, and excitement and even a little sadness into our hearts. It was one night that we ' ll never want to forget. Even as times were good to remember, they were also slipping away. High school days, full of good times and bad, were soon going to be part of our past. Where have they gone? Soon, what we all had been waiting for was here, Graduation Day. As we sit in rows, sneaking glances and wondering where the years have gone, suddenly remembering yesterdays. We stand there saying goodbyes, words cracking and tears flowing, thinking how strange the feeling was to say goodbye to the people you grew up with. Oh those times, why did they have to go? We had learned together, played together, cried together and laughed together, but now our school years have ended. Looking ahead, we had each taken a different road. Some to meet again, others to drift apart, but we always have our memories. Nobody can take those away from us because they always have been ours and always will be ours.
