Local fifths? Wm % 2 1- STUDENT GOVERNMENT The Student Government, having the power to promote the desires and needs of its student body, is the primary source of leadership. It is divided into three specific committees: the Ex- ecutive Council, the Student Council, and the Student Advisory Board. The Executive Council consists of four members: the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and ireasurer. The 1983-84 class President, Joseph Donnelly, is the chief executive of the governing body. Next in rank is the Vice-President who assumes the president ' s duties if the former is absent. The person who is presently filling this position is Edward Doherty. The responsibility for writing notices and keeping the minutes of each meeting lies with the secretary, John Wheelock. Cathy Sirignano, the 1983-84 class Treasurer, receives and distributes any money raised by the Student Council. The Student Council was developed to promote student responsibility and school spirits. The class of 1 983-84 has elected Thomas Anderson, Charlene DiMare, and Richard Perrotti to carry out these duties. The last committee, the Student Advisory Board, is made up of four high school student and one vocational student. Those representing the class of 1983-84 are Rosanne Alba, Joseph Bono, Donna Cirino, and Robert Prezioso, and Michael Ciulla represents the Vocational Divi- sion. TIDE PRIDE The Everett High gfrl ' s Field Hockey team finished up their 1 983 season strongly with a 2-0 victory over Revere which established a 4-7-1 record overall. The Crimson Tide players got off to a slow start because of the great loss of experienced players from last year ' s squad, but this young team was able to come together against such teams as Maiden, Brooklme, and as previously mentioned Revere. On offense, the varsity was led by co-captairLEileen Peddle wjjo finished thebeason with 1 goal and 8 assists arid Cathy Sirignano with 2 goals. The defense, led by co-capwins Kathy Habeeb, Karen Har- rington, Lynn Kelley and junior Kay McDona ld showed continuous and steady improvement in their individual as well as team play. )unior Dawn Berradino displayed great skills as goalie. After many long hard hours practicing and playing this difficult sport, everyone was very encouraged with the prog- ress made by the team. The Field Hockey team was a large number ofjrcung, new players who will be returning next season. Eileen Peddle was named to the Greater Boston All Star Team! With goalie Maggio peppered constantly and with Paul Smith, Frai double duty, Everett stumbled through an opening loss to Medford 7-2. It was noted ten years of college and high school officiating he had never seen a game that exei; Everett ' s scorers on this match were Anderson and Smith. In the Revere contest, Co-Captain Tom Anderson found the scoring touch and pottc lighters were promising Sophomore David Ravanesi, Steven Sabella and Steven Mai Sabella, Ravanesi, DiCesare and Ferrante scored for Everett in the Maiden game, but fJ By the time the Tide went to Somerville, it was evidenced that Maiuri, McCormick and Smith were showing signs of heady and continually good play. It still went for naught as Everett scored late in the game and tied SomerVjlle 2-2. Ravanesi and McCormick tallied in this one. DiBiasi and Anderson nicked Peabody for goals, but let down passing and iting permitted Peabody to edge the Tide 3-2. Everett took a weak Chelsea for a ride around the rink and scored an ejdB I victory. Everyone played in this game getting in enough time to earn points towards a letter. The big win was Arlington. For the first time in seven games, a healthy Everettsquad hit the pond with a zeal that carried them to their best game of the season. With heavy forechecking and clean passing, the game went into the last 15 seconds tied 4-4 when Maiuri faked a move, after stealing a clearing pass, and blasted the game winner home for a 5-4 victory. The good game syndrome took a vacation when injuries and flu took hold again. Everett went down to a 7-3 defeat by Revere and a close loss to Maiden 5-3. Ml Coach Tom Gibson and Assistant Coach Herb Lawrence see a long season before the last nine games are completed, but reported they still think a healthy Tide Squad can reach a .500 season. The small number of Seniors on the squad mean Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will play a major part in building a squad for next year. Young goalie ImbreScia will probably be the net minder and has the opportunity to be the back bone of the next year ' s squad. Sophomore Ravanesi looks like a good bet for the future by his improved and hustling type of play. Scorers for this year ' s squad were Anderson, . Letterman John Bridge and Jay Rhoton will be joined by fellow seniors Lionel Beane, Joe Tierney, Mark Lento, Ralph Delleva and Bobby Dean to provide depth. Underclassmen Dennis Conway (Jr.), Kevin Noonan (soph.), Paul Tierney (Soph.), and Robert Fialli (Fresh.) have all shown bright potential for the future. A Drop in the Bucket Leading the Crimson into the 1983-84 basketball season were co-captains Nancy Mitchell and Eileen Peddle. Experi- ence was the key, and due to the loss of four starters from the previous season, the girls got off to a very slow start. This was a developing period for the Tide. Starting for the squad were Kim Rotondo, Kristen McLaughlin, Nancy Mitchell, Eileen Peddle, and alternating at the second guard position were Pam Griffin, and Janet Colameta. Pam Griffin and Janet Colameta contributed to an aggres- sive defense and outside shooting while freshman Kim Rotondo set the pace and plays. Off the boards, Kristen McLaughlin, Nancy Mitchell and Eileen Peddle attained the offensive as well as defensive rebound. The backups for the Crimson also displayed their talents when called upon. Sophmores Maureen Habeeb and Tina Viglietti and Junior Pauline Galbraith provided continuity when they entered the game. Seniors Lisa Gimas and Kathy Habeeb also gave the team more depth. Overall, the 1983-84 basketball season has displayed an aggressive and improving Crimson Tide Girls ' Basketball Team. The tradition of Tide Pride has been the trademark of this Crimson team. Led by Captain Paul Gusciewickz, the tide rolled overQuin- cy and Thanksgiving day rival Chelsea. In the Quincy game, touchdowns, by senior Rob DiLoreto and sophomore Fred Veader paced Everett to a 14-0 whitewash. Fine efforts should also be attributed to the defen- sive play of junior Scott Ferullo, seniors Pat English, Ed Doher- ty, Jay Holt, and Mike Ciulla. On Thanksgiving, the Tide defeated Chelsea as senior run- ningback Steve DiNapoli scored two touchdowns. The victory was sealed when Rob DiLoreto tossed a touchdown pass to sophomore Darrin Nicoli. Soccer team held it ' s first practice of the year with 24 players, 9 of them freshman. The team had a winless 1 st half as the offense could not get itself together. But in the second half of the year coach John Finn ' s early season conditioning program paid off as Everett won 2 and tied 1 . In addition Everett played well against Somerville and Medford who later went on to the state ournament. Everett set new records this year, scoring 72 goals for the 1 st time in 4 years, winning 2 games for the 1 st time in 3 years, and finally scoring 5 goals in their victory over Peabody. As coach Finn once said, We are building for the future , and with 6 freshmen including all-star goalie Tiaiano Pasquale, 4 sophomores and 2 juniors returning this statement is justified.
