•AHLIN MEMOI«tlAL LiBRAKt And now the end is near, And so we face the final curtain. My friends we ' ll say it clear, We state our case of which we ' re certain We ' ve lived a life that ' s full We ' ve traveled each and every highway, And more, much more than this We did it Our Way. 2 Regrets, we ' ve had a few. But then again too few to mention. We did what we had to do And saw it through without exemption. We ' ve planned each chartered course. Each careful step along the by-way And more much more than this, We did it Our Way. 3 Yes, there were times, I ' m sure you knew, When we bit off More than we could chew But through it all. When there was doubt. We ate it up and spit it out. We faced it all and stood tall And did it Our Way. We ' ve loved, we ' ve laughed, we cried. We ' ve had our fill our share of losing. And now as tears subside. We find it all so amusing To think we did all that, Then may we say. But not in a shy way More much more than this WE DID IT OUR WAY 5 MAYOR OF EVERETT EDWARD G. I love America because of the ideals which the pioneers established for its home, for its schools, for its democratic community life, and for its spirit of reform and social advance. In America, freedom of speech has given us the special gift to speak our minds: one should never repress his opinion whether on politics or on some other forum. A free exchange of ideas and suggestions among people is the foundation on which our country ' s communities were built. Think for a moment of the rich and beautiful country we are privileged to inhabit, and the mighty heritage that has come to us through the great deeds performed by the pioneers who built our country. This nation has been blessed with the grace of God and the labors of our ancestors. They have given us the inspiration and the pride to call ourselves Americans. I love America because of its great schools where knowledge is not a luxury for the few, but is dispensed among all people who seek it. The thirst for knowledge has led to great scientific and technological advancement. Our achievements in those areas have been the products of our institutions and of our individual industriousness. It has given us the ability to work for greater health and prosperity not only for our own country, but for the world. I love our flag and that for which it stands; one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I love the story of our flag. It tells of struggle for independence and of a union preserved. This story of the independence of our flag could never have been told without the brave men who fought for it from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War. These men deserve our love, respect, admiration, and loyalty. There would be no America to love if it were not for these great men of history. By this, I do not refer just to Washington, MacArthur, or Westmoreland, but I refer to every man who ever donned uniform for this great nation. As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: Not gold but only men can make A people great and strong; Men who for truth and honor ' s sake Stand fast and suffer long. I cherish the great documents of American history. They are expressions of truth and beauty upon which our civilization rests. The foresight of their authors planted the inspiration and the courage in men and women to bring themselves forth from the wilderness of repression overseas to the sparkling light and sunshine of America ' s shores. With all the achievements and with the industriousness of our people, America is not the foremost nation on the earth today. It stands as the vanguard of freedom and morality in today ' s dangerous world. I love America even though it is not perfect. This country has weathered storms in its past, and we will ride out the storms of the present. I love America enough to believe the vast majority of its people will forget their grievances, petty hates and prejudices, and that they will resolve their differences so that we will have a more perfect union. 12 BRIAN E. I CLASS HISTORY A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we were dropped off at Planet 66 which was known as Kindergarten. There we played with dolls, trucks, etc., and never stopped to think of the many centrons ahead. As we grew older, we encountered many more Planets, namely. No ' s 67-75, but they weren ' t to be similar, for every Planet held a special memory for each of us. At last, on Planet 75, we were all joined together on the suborbital known as PARLIN. In this subortal we found it a bit strange, males and females had to be separated in the cafeteria and no one dared change that. Only single file would be tolerated in the corridors. This was enforced by a few monitors with their pointing sticks, which should be classified as lethal weapons. It was also a hard place to leave, for it was only permitted when an unknown voice announced, . . . on the next bell . . . . These rules and regulations were enforced by the one and only, Mr. Mangerian. Quickly we finished our mission on planet 75, along with 76. After graduation from PARLIN, we entered a bright new galaxy just across the way, known as EVERETT HIGH. On Planet 77, we were given a little more freedom and a lot more frustration. Our leaders for this mission were: Nancy Avola, President; Lorraine Carli, Vice-President, Mary Hickey, Secretary; and Karen Russo, Treasurer. Lost but not alone, we finally knew our way around the new galaxy and discovered that there really wasn ' t a purple elevator around the next corner. This galaxy wasn ' t very well developed, for we had no cafeteria, which resulted in eating in the classrooms, and we didn ' t have a gym, so we adopted Glendale Park in the warm weather, and Granada Bowling Allies and the M.D.C. Rink during the cold of the winter. Planet 77 ' ' had only begun to cause problems for us. When the cold weather struck and there was no heat in the building, it resulted in a televised walkout. When construc- tion odors, and noises entered our classrooms, we were moved to the auditorium, which was another story in itself. Circumstances being as they were, we weren ' t allowed to do much, but we knew our time would come. On Planet 78, we encountered many more missions. As our leaders we chose: Loney Bond, President; Pat Sheehan, Vice-President; Mary Hickey, Secretary; and Janine Grillo, Treasurer. Christmas was just around the corner and we held our Junior Christmas Party at the Bon Saison. A great time was had by all except the certain few who didn ' t quite make it through the night. Soon after, we were blessed with the BLIZZARD OF 78, which dropped two to three feet of snow, along with quite a few days off from school. Around this time we were 88 also deeply saddened by the loss of Joey LaRaia, one of our classmates whose memory will always be with us. After many days of hard work and planning, our Junior Prom was held on May 12, 1978, at the TREMONT VILLA. Under the shining stars of that wonderful night, Debbie DiLeo Gregory and Wesley Davis were chosen King and Queen. With the Prom behind us, we found ourselves one step closer to that final Planet of 79. Summer passed quickly and September came before we knew it. Straight ahead with our destination in focus, we traveled through the best and last part of our mission. Our commanding officers this time were: Nancy Avola, President; Pat Sheehan, Vice- President; Dina D ' Angelo, Secretary; and Mary Arsenault, Treasurer. Our three-year dream had come true, Everett High School was finally complete, well almost. There were still a few minor details to finish: a new gym floor, science labs, and our long awaited lockers. We too, were like new kids at school. We never had a fourth floor before, however we soon found out that not every stairway led to the fourth floor and that there could be an elevator in school. Who could forget the fire alarm system that worked remarkably well and extremely often, and just because we have a brand new gym, doesn ' t necessarily mean we ' re going to have gym classes? We were again saddened by another loss of one of our classmates, Domenic Cafasso. He, too, will remain in our memories. As winter came, so did our Senior Christmas Party, which was a good break after most of us were trying to decide which road to take. Once winter passed, we planned our Senior Prom in earnest. Then spring vacation came, and we could see our final stop just beyond the next rainbow. On Friday Evening, May 4 at the Chateau de Ville our big night arrived THE SENIOR PROM. As we danced the night away, we didn ' t realize how close to the end we really were. June finally arrived with only two last steps of the final mission. The first was Class Day, where we laughed and reminisced of the past Thirteen Centrons, which finally had paid off. We learned together, played together, laughed and cried together. It seemed like the end of our fun and games, but in reality it was the beginning of a new life for all of us. With many cheering us on, Graduation Day was here. We received our diplomas to certify a job well done, and it looks like we made it. Oh yes! We made it!! KENT BENJAMIN DEBI ERLANDSON LUISA FRANCESCON DO IT YOUR WAY!!! Even though we ' ve been waiting so long for this day, I ' d not trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday. The yesterdays that we ' ve shared without much thought have now become so valuable, because that is all we ' ve got. Each and every one of us has tried to do his best, and it didn ' t really matter if the school was in a mess. Our memories will survive because our mind will not erase the thoughts of you, my friends, nothing can take your place We ' ll accept our diplomas with a smile and a tear, somehow wanting to leave and yet wanting to be here. It ' s apprehensive to think of what is to come, especially when we know that it won ' t all be fun. The future is a stage with its lowered curtain, waiting to be opened to show us our fortune. Some will be happy and some will be sad, but no one can ever be really bad! We ' ve learned together that life is real tough and when you ' re alone it isn ' t enough to just keep mourning day after day, you ' ve got to have stamina and do it your way!! ANNA LEO RITA SCHLEGEL IN MEMORIUM To Domenic, If anyone should ever write my life story For whatever reason there might be. And it ' s whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the Piper will lead us to reason. FOOTBALL Everett ' s 1978 football season wasn ' t the Crimson ' s best, but Coach Sarno and his assistants, and the team came through for some excellent games and an exciting season. We lost our season opener to Lynn Classical, with the backs unable to penetrate the Classical line until late in the half, Steve Berrigan passed the ball to Captain Pat Sheehan, who took it over the line for the first score of the season. Another of Steve ' s passes led to a spectacular touchdown by Bruce Thomann in the last second of the half. The Crimson crushed the Hillies of Haverhill 20-6 in the seasons second game. Managing to keep Haverhill ' s advances to a bare minimum throughout, but a desperate pass from the Hillies was interecepted on the 20 yard line by Bob Stopford, who ran it in for a touchdown. Loney Bond ' s rush brought in the two extra points here, and Loney took it in later for another touchdown in the second quarter, upping Everett ' s score to 14. This was Loney ' s day, and he carried the ball in, yet again, for a three-yard run and the Crimson Tide ' s first victory of the season. Loney pushed the Tide on to victory in this game with his 132 yards rushing along with ample help from Artie Berardino, Chuck Gallant, and team. Everett ' s second and last win of the season was secured from the Highlanders of Somerville again by the score of 20-6. Loney Bond went at it again, receiving a pass from Quarterback Steve Berrigan and executing a daring 85-yard run for the game ' s first touchdown. Shortly after, a safety from Bruce Thomann increased Everett ' s lead by two points. Somerville ' s quarterback Hank Landers persistently tried to get through the line, but was held back by Captain Sheehan, Bruce Copp, and Bob Stopford. The lead was clinched in the fourth quarter, as Loney Bond easily scored twice against the Highlanders for an Everett victory, 20-6. The Crimson ' s match against Lowell resulted in a loss with neither team scoring until the third quarter, when the Raider ' s managed a touchdown, Everett bounced right back. Steve Berrigan completed a pass to Pat Sheehan, who ran it in 11 yards for a touchdown. Lowell scored again, however, and the Tide saw defeat, 12-8. Arlington ' s game ended up in an unusual scoreless tie. Loney Bond, Arti Berardino, and some great blocking gained yardage throughout the game, but none sufficient to score. It looked close for the Tide as the Trojans took control of the ball and fast approached the end zone, but the attempt was severed by a powerful tackier Rick Primrose, whose spectacular tackle brought the carrier plummeting to the ground, saving Everett from a loss. The game came to a close with the final score 0-0. The game with Revere marked the beginning of the team ' s decline, as the Patriots solidly trampled the Tide 19-0. Bruce Thomann came through for the Tide with two spectacular catches, and Steve Mahoney provided a key interception which prevented the Pat ' s from scoring further. Medford succeeded in defeating the Tide as well, with an 9-0 victory, thanks to their excellent defense. Everett didn ' t manage to score, but Everett ' s Rick Primrose aided in preventing the Mustangs from obliterating the Tide. Maiden had an all-out romp over the Crimson, with a 33-0 decision. Everett saw little chance of scoring and Everett went on to play Peabody on November 18, after being rained out previously. Another defeat for the Tide, 26-8, with Peabody ahead 20-0 by the third quarter, was somewhat softened by Chuck Gallant ' s run to score for the Tide. The headlines blared, EVERETT VS. CHELSEA CONSIDERED TOSS-UP, as they have since time immemorial, and indeed it was. The Red Devils moved in early, scoring on a 12-yard run in the first period. Tom Ciulla, and Steve Bernardino managed to push the ball to the 41, where a 15 yard clipping penalty against the Devils gave Everett the edge they needed to later advance to what everyone thought was a touchdown. But the official ' s original judgement was ruled incorrect, and the touchdown was not good. Chelsea ' s Dominic Lamarra reached the 21 on the next play and Everett ' s hopes of scoring were crushed. The Devils neared scoring again, attempting a 7-yard touchdown pass, which was in- terecepted by Steve Berrigan on the goal line. Overcoming all obstacles, he carried the ball out to the 25 rescuing Everett from another Chelsea score. The game and season came to a close with a Chelsea victory, 2-7-1 record and seventh place for the Crimson Tide in the Greater Boston League. Loney Bond, who received the Jeffrey Jeweler ' s Award, Rick Primorse, who received the Paul Manganaro award, along with Captain Pat Sheehan, Artie Berardino, Chuck Gallant, Rick Valeri, Steve Mahoney, Jeff Forward. Bruce Copp, Bruce Thomann, Rich Clifford, Charlie Ciovacco, Derek Jefferson, and Louis Napolitano are the seniors to who we will be saying farewell this year. We can only wish them the best in the years to come and a future without regrets. 123 Carole Andreotti Marian Merchant 127 128 CROSS COUNTRY Standing: Mr. Edward P. This sea- son ' s squad was led by tri-captains Thomas Galluccio, Anthony Kalfopoulos, and John Piazza. In addition to its respectable record this season, Everett had the second leading scorer in the league, the talented Joseph Laurina (14 goals). He was followed by Anthony D ' Avanzo, who had 7 goals and 11 assists. Unfortunately, the tremendous amount of unity needed to win materialized late in the season. In its last eight contests, only one loss resulted, and this defeat came at the hands of the number one team in the league. The varsity squad played some outstanding games this year. Perhaps the finest example of courage and determination was exemplified in the Haverhill game. Everett, with only nine players to Haverhill ' s eleven, outran, outplayed, and pounded threatening shots at a bewildered Haverhill goalie. First year head coach Henry Bejian announced that next year ' s co-captains will be Mark Bellio and Joseph Mastrocola. Coach Bejian is confident that the newly created spirit this year will enable next year ' s squad to gain more victories and to improve its league standing. Although next fall will be another building year, the co-captains feel that the newly established junior varsity soccer team will be a great asset in giving these players the experience before moving up to the varsity team. Some 40 players joined the soccer team last season. However, this number is far below that of other school systems. The 1978 varsity squad consisted of the following players: Mark Bellio, An- thony D ' Avanzo, Wesley Davis, Wilson DeCastro, Michael DelSonno, Mark Di- Biaso, Thomas Gallucio, Robert Hallowell, Anthony Kalfopoulos, Joseph Laurina, Louis Leo, Charles Lyons, Mario Mancini, Joseph Mastrocola, Emery Parsons, and John Piazza. Coach Bejian announced that the team ' s Most Valuable Player for 1978 was awarded to tri-captain and senior Thomas Galluccio. 136 Basketball at Everett High saw a great season from a magnificent team in 1979, enjoying one of the better records of varsity sports at E.H.S. We lost our season opener to Somerville, 64-54, with Tide Captain, Tom Parker, Pat Thistle, Steve Berrigan, and Bob Stopford leading Everett ' s efforts. Contests against Arlington and Medofrd also saw defeat for the Crimson Tide, as did the first game in the elimination round of the first annual Wakefield Christmas Holiday Basketball Tournament. This one was a heartbreaker; the scores were tied at 53 at the close of regulation, when John Sheehan and Pat Thistle scored in overtime to bring it 59, but Glouceste r ' s Leo White landed with 0:27 left, thus defeating the Crimson Tide, 60-59. We saw our first shades of glory in the consolation round against Notre Dame of Fitchburg. Charlie Ciovacco and Kurt McLaughlin were the cornerstones for Everett in this game, and Kurt ' s fine play won him the distinction of being elected to the tournament all-star team. Everett ' s confidence had apparently been vitalized, as we went on to crush both Lowell and Revere. Our victory over the Red Raiders surprised everyone as one of the upsets of the season. Tom Parker, Charlie Ciovacco, and Kurt McLaughlin had the Raiders by the throat 30-14 at the half, and subdued them completely. And though Lowell put forth a fantastic effort to catch up. the Tide was not to be beaten and went on to win 48-41. The regulars given ample aid from George Zackular, Frank Pryor, Rick Kirby, Brian Mulkern, Pat Sheehan and John Keegan in our well deserved 44-33 victory over Revere, and on to play Peabody with confidence. Although Steve Berrigan, Charlie Ciovacco, Kurt McLaughlin, Tom Parker, and Pat Thistle played a superb game, the Tanners matched their every effort, and the scores were tied at the end of the fourth, making a three-minute overtime period necessary. Both scores advanced by two, and the Peabody scored with eight seconds left. A desperate attempt by the Tide to score in the last seconds was unsuccessful, and the game was lost. The Crimson had a solid romp over the Golden Tornadoes of Maiden, 68-47. Coach Dolan clearing the bench. Another field day was had from Haverhill, 72-49, but Chelsea brought an end to our winning streaks, as six-foot-seven Red Devil Jay Ash successfully thwarted many of Everett ' s efforts. Kurt McLaughlin, Pat Thistle, and Captain Parker bypassed Chelsea ' s excellent defense, aided by Charlie Ciovacco, Steve Berrigan, and Bob Stopford, to score 41, but the Devils ' seven-point advantage meant a loss for the Tide. In our second meeting with Somerville, Crimson shooting was not at all up to its usual standard, and the Highlanders shot ahead to win, 71-41 . But the Crimson Tide bounced back against Arlington, mastering in the fourth quarter what had been a close game throughout. Tom Parker, Pat Thistle, Charlie Ciovacco, Bob Stopford, John Sheehan, and John Keegan scored 59 points altogether, as did the Trojan squad. But Steve Berrigan expertly landed two free throws to pave the way for final victory 69-63, with Dave Martin and Jimmy Puopolo making an appearance on the varsity bench. We again upset Lowell, this time 68-61, in an action-packed and tension-filled contest in which the Tide ' s abilities were taxed to their fullest and came through for a win, led by Kurt McLaughlin ' s 3 1 points. The record stood at eight and nine after and easy 72-57 victory over Revere, and a 70-63 loss from Peabody. Against Maiden, the Crimson started off slow but gradually picked up speed and eventually vanquished the Tornadoes, 65-57, with Captain Parker pumping a 29 points for the Tide and putting us well on our way for the following contests against Haverhill and Chelsea. by Kenneth Carangelo. 137 139 INDOOR TRACK FRONT ROW: Pete Gregory, Robert Hallowell. Wayne Poste, John McNamara, Steve Sachetta, Gary Garrity. SECOND ROW: Rich Valeri. Kent Benjamin, Mary Doherty, Joe Wallace, Kevin Rocker, Phillip Petto. This year ' s indoor track season proved to be a turning point in the development of track as a quality varsity sport. This was largely due to having an indoor facility to practice in; an added weight lifting program; an additional track coach, and the largest turnout of participants in the past decade. Although the track record (2-6) didn ' t indicate this quality, certain indi- viduals and the total points scored at the meets showed a vast improvement over previous years. Several meets were decided by only a small margin thus showing the potential for future teams. These seniors to be congratulated are: Mary Doherty, Phil Petto, Richard Valeri, Peter Gregory, Robert Hallowell, Gary Garrity, John McNamara, and Captain Steve Sachetta. The completion of the new field house will bring us home meets which should prove to be beneficial in the further development of the program. With the large participation and interest of point scoring undergraduates, we look forward to track becoming a first-rate sport at Everett High School. Seated: Mary Hickey, Celia Donatio, Marion Merchant. Second Row: Sharon Farnell, Chris O ' Donnell, Captain; SueEllen Bucchiere, Lisa Garron. Third Row: Mr. Louis Baldi, Head Coach; Barbara Boudreau, Diane Jackson, Carla Bengtson. Assistant Coach, Miss Nancy Fennelly and Lorraine Carli were not available when photo was taken. The E.H.S. Girl ' s Basketball Team completed its 1978-9 season with an overall record of 7 wins and 10 losses. This was a season in which the team played good, hard basketball and earned numerous accolades from opposing coaches. The squad finished fifth in the G.B.L. and in addition had a G.B.L. All star in Guard Barbara Boudreau. This year ' s team was led by Captain Christine O ' Donnell a steady, hardworking forward. Six other seniors earned varsity letters: Guard Barbara Boudreau was the team ' s leading scorer, rebounder, and in addition was selected as the top defensive player. Lorraine Carli and Marion Merchant also worked at the guard position. SueEllen Bucchiere and Diane Jackson shared the center position and between them snared 200 rebounds and scored over 200 points. Forward Mary Hickey started in 16 of the 17 games this year and earned her third varsity letter in basketball. The remainder of the squad included junior point guard Carla Bengston, the only non-senior to start regularly, and sophomores Celia Donatio, Sharon Farnell and Lisa Garron. This squad was coached by Miss Nancy Fennelly and Mr. Louis Baldi. On January 19 history was made when the Girl ' s Basketball Team became the first team to be televised over Warner Cable TV Network, and the score a 45-42 victory over archrival Chelsea. On December 13 the girls traveled to Lynn English. This was the debut of first-year Head Coach Baldi. Unfortunately, the Crimson was beaten 46-38 by a strong and experienced Lynn English team. Two nights later, the Crimson routed Somerville 54-35 for their first victory of the season, which was followed by a close loss to Arlington 35-32 and a loss to G.B.L. second place finisher — Medford. Everett got back on the winning track in the next two games by beating Chelsea 51-41 and Revere 44-31. Then on to unbeaten Peabody on January 9. Everett did everything right except put the ball in the hoop so Peabody came out on top 44-32. This loss seemed to erode their confidence as they succumbed to Maiden and Haverhill in the next two games. The Crimson then went on a three game winning spree defeating Chelsea 45-42, Somerville 45-28, and Arlington 43-30. The victory at Ariington avenged an early season loss to the Spyponders. The Crimson hosted Medford on January 30. The Mustangs ended the Crimson ' s winning streak 55-42. Everett then evened their record at 7-7 with a close 37-34 victory at Revere. This victory was followed by three successive losses in three thrilling games. G.B.L. Co-Champion Peabody bested Everett 54-41. Peabody earned this victory after being down 10 points at halftime to the Crimson. Maiden won a thrilling 43-42 victory at Everett in the second televised Girl ' s Basketball Game. Everett came within inches of winning as SueEllen Bucchieri ' s jump shot with 2 seconds left went in then popped out of the basket. Everett ' s final contest was against Haverhill. This same Haverhill team would advance to the Division I North Semifinals, but Everett stayed nip and tuck with Haverhill until late in the third period. However, Haverhill ' s depth and experience became evident as the Hillies went on to a 53-39 victory over the Crimson. All in all the 1978-9 season was a good one. The E.H.S. ' s Girls ' Basketball Team played a competitive and exciting brand of basketball thus upholding the fine tradition of Everett High School in interscholastic sports. 145 146 First Row: Domenic D ' Alleva, Manager; Larry Curtis, Manager; Larry Harrington, Fioren- tino DiTullio, Wayne Fraulini, Co-Captain; Stephen Meyers. Stephen Cardillo, Co-Captain; Ken Messina, Bruce Copp. Second Row: John LaCorcia, Freshman Coach; Herb Lawr- ence, Assistant Varsity Coach; Scot Barry, Bill Long, Doug McCarthy, Gordon Stilwell, Mike Peddle, Joe Russo, Scott Norton, Stephen Werner, Maury Bauer, Scott Martinelli, Tom Gibson, Head Coach. The E.H.S. hockey team which started out slowly picked up the pace in the second half of the season. Coach Tom Gibson and assistant Herb Lawrence were pleased with the newly developed philosophy of the crimson skates to become winners. Co-Captains Wayne Fraulini and Stephen Cardillo were instrumental in instilling the young team with their leadership examples and their 1 10 percent effort in practice and in games. Other seniors that contributed to a winning philosophy were: Larry Harrington who developed into E.H.S ' s Don Marcotte with his consistant forechecking and backchecking, Bruce Copp, Fiorentino DiTullio. Lou Staffieri. and backup goaltender. Ken Messina who was to take over the goaltending chore midway through the season after missing his entire junior year due to an injury. We opened against preseason favorite, Peabody, and did everything right except put the puck in the net as we missed 5 open net chances as we went down to defeat 5-3. The next two contest saw us down Chelsea 4-2, as we fired 42 shots at the Chelsea netminder, while trouncing Haverhill 7-2. The Haverhill game belonged to Capt. Wayne Fraulini with one goal and four assists and Junior Scot Barry with four goals who had the opportunity to tie the E.H.S. record of 5 goals held by his Coach, Tom Gibson. The tide then dropped the next six games in a row on defensive lapses. The young club was skating with the other teams but because of inexperience were unable to finish plays. In the record, half of the season Ken Messina took over the net duties and the team improved. Over the next 10 games the team was 5-3-2 with Haverhill, and Somerville remaining on the schedule, a good chance for a .500 year. The highlight of the season was when Coach Gibson guaranteed that his 7-9-2 hockey team would beat once defeated Peabody. In what was one of the best high school games ever witnessed, the tide followed through by defeating Peabody 4-2 at Peabody in a very high strung emotional game. The tides leading goal scorer Scot Barry netted the tying and winning goals while sophomore Scott Martinelle started the scoring trend, with Sophomore Stephen Werner putting the icing on the cake. In retrospect, the team had to overcome a lack of experience and a lack of veterans to survive the season. We ran into miserable luck in the first half of the season as every goaltender we faced seemed to come up with the hot hand. Consistent scores for the tide have been Capt. Wayne Fraulini with 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 pts, the highest in a long time in E.H.S. history. Second in the scoring is Scot Barry with 22 goals and 9 assists for 31 pts. Fraulini has a chance for the league scoring title and Barry for the league goal scoring title. Because of a lack of depth junior Scott Norton, and Joe Russo were forced to do yeoman work on defense and often found themselves skating the entire game, something uncommon on a high school level. The season has been vyorth while even though it had its disappointments. We felt that there were games lost that we could have won with a little luck going our way. To those seniors who have done so well we hope they skate their way through life and carry with them the realization that victories are wonderful but we do learn a lesson in defeat which may be more beneficial in making our way to the final whistle of life. THE E CLUB The E Club of Everett is an active organization of former and present varsity letter recipients in all athletics at Everett High School. The organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Everett tradition in sports. Founded in 1929 by the late football head coach Dennis A. Gildea, the E Club was reorganized in 1972 and has grown, to become a national high school alumni organization with over 500 dues-paying Crimson graduates throughout the country. Some of the E ' ' Club ' s noteworthy programs include $500 scholarship grants to deserving scholar-athletes, recognition, dinners for athletic teams, special awards to deserving individuals, social functions to benefit the scholarship foundation, ai blood donor ' s program to aid all members and their families, and the publication of a monthly newsletter. ! Since the E Club initiated its scholarship program in 1973, eighteen Crimson seniors have been awarded $9,000 in: scholarship grants. This is the E Club ' s proudest achievement. j The E Club extends an invitation to all varsity athletes to enroll as a student member in high school and to continue! that distinguished membership after graduation. Since you will be the future leaders in the organization, it is your responsi-! bility to continue the great and illustrious Everett tradition in athletics. Since its humble beginnings in 1972, the E Club has grown to a national sports alumni organization with over 500i dues-paying members. Some of the E Club ' s beneficent programs over the last seven years include annual $500 scholarship grants to deserving scholar-athletes, recognition dinners for EHS athletic teams, EHS athletic schedules, special awards to deserving individuals, a blood donors program to benefit the entire membership, and their families, andi the publication of a monthly newsletter which is mailed to the entire membership. i At the E Club ' s first Kickoff and Reunion Dinner on October 26, 1972, Rev. Frank Strahan sang a moving rendition of The Impossible Dream to the large gathering at Fantasia ' s. The Impossible Dream has become our theme song since the realization of that dream is exemplified by the fantastic growth and achievements of the E Club. The entire membership and the community are to be commended for their untiring support of the programs of the E Club of Everett. !
