w ,• — 1: I P • f t LLkli } t r EVERETT HIGH SCHOOL Everett, Massachusetts Class Of 1977 TIME KEEPS SLIPPING ON INTO THE FUTURE Togethe r we once entered the doors Of a new experience. We were younger then And like the ignorant fool We knew not what to expect. Yet we opened our eyes In the wonders of what was to come. So through those doors we walked Early, in the fall of seventy -four There was no turning back now We had made it, and would remain there For what seemed long; for three years more. In time our studies gave birth To a new concept --and that was understanding Yes, we were growing, maturing And taking life for all that it was worth. Together, our understanding and our hopes and our dreams Did find a sixth sense Which was love. . . Through the days and through the months Were times never imagined in our dreams. There were happy times, good times, bad times And yes, even interludes of sadness. Together we have shared so much To try to put into words All that has happened Only sours the sweet memories Which will never again become reality. For time keeps slipping on into the future And we can do nothing but sway with it Like trees in the wind. Our eyes are opened wide now So much has passed Our minds are clearer now The days are moving fast. It is time to reflect on those days We so long had hoped for, For now they are over and done. If only we could go back To those special times Those times that made us smile, Times that made us think. But we can ' t We must look ahead With all the wonders of a new beginning For time keeps slipping on into the future. By Audrey Letteney 11 B1: 3 Eileen A. LAST ROW: Michele McCarthy, Michelle Molle, Renee Maffeo, George Milley, ' Charles Schull, Wayne McKenzie The E Club has a proud and glorious past in fostering and preserving the great Everett tradition in sports. It was first organized on February 6, 1929, with Coach Den- nis Gildea acting as the faculty advisor. Membership in the E Club was restricted to all athletes who were awarded their varsity letter in sports. The purpose of tlie club was to establish high ideals in athletics and to encourage students to go out for athletics and earn their letters. After a few years of organization, the E Club was discontinued. At a meeting held at the Everett Recreation Center on April 26, 1972, the E Club was reorganized with a slate of Officers and a Board of Governors elected by over 75 former lettermen in attendance. Since its re organization in 1972, the E Club has grown to be a national sports alum- ni organization, with over 500 dues-paying members throughout the country. Some of the E Club ' s noteworthy programs include three $500 scholarship grants to deserving EHS student-athletes, recognition dinners for EHS teams, athletic schedules, special awards to deserving individuals, social functions to benefit the scholarship fund, a blood donor ' s program to benefit the members and their families, and the publication of a monthly newsletter. 72 At this year ' s Fifth Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner on May 12th the E Club reached two significant milestones in its prestigious history: the celebration of its fifth anniversary and the $6,000 mark in scholarship awards to EHS students. The recip- ients of this scholarship program in the past are Dennis Aylward (U Mass) and Frank Russo (Harvard) in 1973; Mario Maniscalco (Bowdoin) and Patrick Schena (Boston Col- lege) in 1974; Patti Parziale (Simmons) and David Scenna (Northeastern) in 1975; Therese Giove (Bridgewater State), Barry Glass (Bowdoin), and Patrick Kearney (Northeastern) in 1976. Faculty advisor Lawrence Vozella reported that the following have enrolled as stu- dent members in the E Club for 1976-1977: Nicholas Rossetti, Cheryl Hooper, Tim- othy Ringdahl, Cindy Hooper, Joseph Nuzzo, Denise Jackson, Jody Camerario, Maureen Lanctot, Joseph McGee, Theodora Stratis, Lynne Molea, Renee Maffeo, Susan DiMaria, Wayne McKenzie, Janet Martignetti, George Milley, Leslie Turner, Michelle McCarthy, Joseph Ingemi, Rosemary Aucello, Joseph luliano, Not Available, Charles Schull, Ro- bert Medaglio, Michelle Molle, Janice Nigro, Timothy Sheehan, Irene Hall, Paul Vietro, Gary Marques, Lori Barry, Diane Catalano, Mary Bono, and Eileen Kelley. Since the continuation and fostering of the great Everett tradition in sports rests on the shoulders of the present day athlete, the E Club extends an invitation to all var- sity athletes to enroll as a student member and to continue that membership after grad- uation. It is your responsibility to carry on this tradition. Take pride in the CRIMSON TIDE ! Creative, innovative, and cer- tainly rowdy at times . . . but where did it all begin? Back at Parlin, of course. The days when we had to file in a straight line and buy our lunch tickets in the morning. There we were met by such obstacles as a segregated cafeteria, girls on one side, boys on the other. Remember those music classes headed by Miss Birmingham. Or watching the gym classes out tlie nearest window, or trying to sneak a cigarette at lunch without getting caught by the Green Hornet, Mr. Mangerian. Only the brave would try to hide a bag of chips or an apple to eat in tlie school yard. The classic of all was the punishment of writing the Parlin Character if you were a bad girl or boy. They even had the nerve to make you number each word! In ninth grade we thought we were the kings and queens of Parlin. After all, we were the oldest and the wisest, so we thought. After graduation, we all came together from Parlin into the High School. This is it, we thought, freedom at last. But then we met Mr. Leo, whose bark was always worse than his bite. We became acquainted with P.M. Sessions. And I ' m sure no one could forget the first day of school in our sopho- more year. We filed into the auditorium, once big parlin graduates, now little sophomores. We were afraid to ask for directions when we couldn ' t find our classrooms because we were thrown off by the even, odds, set up of the high school. Asa result we were ten minutes late for our classes. But as the year progressed we realized that there really wasn ' t an elevator or a Room 222. In that year we met old and new friends. The girls got into sororities and the boys into more sports. For some it was a year of goofing off. For others it was a year of hardwork. All in all it was a year to get acquainted with our new school, new teachers, and our new friends. The first day of school in our Junior year was a little less nerve racking. We were one year clos- er to graduation, though that was far off in our minds at the time. It was the bi-centennial year, the two hundredth birthday of our country, and we enthusiastically joined in the celebration. The administration, in a desperate attempt to stop absenteeism and class cutting, put the seven day absence rule into effect. The year started off pretty well and we felt a little more sure of our- selves as the year progressed. Everyone enjoyed the cafeteria studies, and tliey became the place to go during study periods or if you were skipping a class. It was a good year for the football and basketball teams. The football team winning the G. B. L. title and the basketball team making it to the finals in the Tech Tourney, finally loosing to Don Bosco. Lynn Auto School signed a contract with Everett High School providing students witli a driver-ed course that everyone enjoyed. Juniors with a last period study pretended they were seniors and left early, being careful not to get caught. The Junior Prom was a huge success with over one hundred couples attending. Audrey Giannattasio and Joe Guarino were our King and Queen. The Junior Picnics were very well organized and everyone had a good time. Tlie ground breaking- ceremony took place for the new addition of our high school, although at the time no one knew what we were in for. We were sent home twice in one week for bomb scares and fires near the end of the year. We then began to realize that only one more year of school was left. Here we ' are finally seniors. It seemed like yesterday that we were at Parlin. The higlilight of our senior year was undoubtedly the construction. We hardly recognized the old school in September. There were walls where stairways had once been. A strike by the construction workers meant that the plan for completing the addition first and then remodeling the old building could not be done. So we found ourselves being interrupted by workers coming in to measure, bang holes into, and tear down walls, put up beams to hold up walls, etc. We simply had to put up widi the noise, dust, and strange odors that this new construction brought us. Despite these unbelievable conditions we ' ve tried our best to carry on the normal learning pro- cess at Everett High School. Tlie teachers and students have been very tolerant and we ' ve done very well considering we had no gym, no cafeteria, and no room for anything else. The Student Advisory I3oard persuaded the School Committee to extend early dismissal to all students witli sLxtli and seventh period studies providing they were in good academic standing. We will always remember tlie audi- torium studies, the nutty construction workers who tried to make life at the high scliool a little more pleasant for us all, our bowling tournaments during gym classes, and the movement of rooms and offices from one day to the next, our dances, Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Senior Prom, Sen- ior picnic, and all the parties and events leading up to our graduation. Now we have finally reached the top. As seniors at Everett High School we look back and say where did the time go? Wc find tliat our senior year is too good and much too short for us to enjoy. We, in a way, arc looking forward to the future, but yet in another way we arc hoping it will never come. A sense of togetherness grips hold of us as we finally realize that this is it. We will never again have the cliancc to walk tlirougli tliese corridors as seniors or return to these liigh school days. And as time keeps slipping into tlie future, we will look back upon tliese days with happy memories that we will always cherish.
