Cravotta Neil G. Listen I Play in the Pastures of God The Lord is my Father for all eternity, I play in His pastures and His meadows joyously, I fear no evil, I fear no pains so long as J tred in His sacred domain. For I know the Lord watches over me. Loneliness is forgotten where love reigns Supreme. Such is our Shepherd ' s everlasting scheme. All are welcome. Come all who can enjoy the fruits of the one Divine Plan, Partake -and see what happiness can mean. Milk and honey are plentiful: the rivers never run dry. Where there is eternal youth there is no time to pass you by. Words have little meaning: it ' s the thoughts and deeds that show in the meadows of the Lord where love and charity overflow, Where a thought can live forever, men never die. So come with me! Everyone! Where my feet have trod. Everyone dwells happily ' neath the Savior ' s rod. Let us go together, as was ever planned: let us run together to the promised land. For I know I can play forever in the flowered pastures of God! by MichaelJ. Cravotta February 23, 1967 4:45 p. m. There was a look of concern upon the faces of Head Coach Sarno and his assistants Romboli and Marques as they greeted a very inexperienced but enthusiastic squad at the start of the season. The task of molding together a smooth working machine was to be a difficult one. Tri-captains Burns, Puopolo, and Simonelli were to set a great example for a club of mostly sophomores and juniors. It was a foregone conclusion that mistakes would happen, but at no time would there be a lack spirit and desire. We opened the season against a strong, veteran, championship Newton team and right from the start our lack of experience hurt us. We were unable to un track ourselves for the whole first half and were overwhelmed by them. In the second half we gained some composure and showed promise, but it was too late to pull out a victory even though we did manage to score twice. Our outing against Somerville was a repetition of our previous performance. It was the long bomb and field goals that caused our early downfall. Again we went down to defeat, though we did score twice in the final stanza. The first half jitters stayed with us in our game with the Quincy Presidents. We were only to put together one late concerted drive for a score as we dropped this one by three touchdowns. Revere gave us a headache the following week and despite our every effort we could not overcome their early lead and bowed in defeat by five points. It has been a long time since an Everett team dropped four in a row. If there was ever a game to win it was our meeting with Medford! The Mustangs were undefeated and we put on our best show of the year. We still insisted on giving them an early eighteen point lead but then proceeded to creep up on them With four minutes to go, we tied them and then converted to win by two points. This was a sweet ending to what seemed an impossible task. Our first half nemesis stayed with us against North Quincy. If we could but play only the second half we would have had a more productive season. Again our early lapses cost us a win as we dropped this one by one touchdown. Beverly came after us with revenge in their hearts after their humiliating defeat of the previous year. They proceeded to fulfill their every wish as they returned to the North Shore with a win. The Golden Tornado of Maiden blew us off the field the following week. If some of the breaks had gone our way, the score would not have been what it was. However, the records show that we went down to defeat despite a great effort on our part. All the records and past performances can be cast aside when Everett and Chelsea meet on Turkey Day. This year was to be no exception. For the first three periods it was nip-and-tuck with neither team able to score. The final period saw us perform in our usual manner and score twice. This was enough for victory. Our Thanksgiving turkey tasted swell! The season was interesting though disastrous. Our first half shortcomings caused our downfall in almost every game. From here on it was always an uphill fight. To all our team members, and especially the seniors, we say thanks for the chance given us to root for the team and our school. May your future endeavors in life be crowned with victories for you. THE SEASON Everett 14 Newton 34 Everett 14 Somerville 26 Everett 6 Quincy 29 29 Everett 8 Revere 1 3 Everett 20 Medford 18 Everett 12 North Quincy 20 Everett 6 Beverly 14 Everett 0 Maiden 4 Everett 12 Chelsea 0 Head Coach Erickson and his assistant, Mr. Pisacreta, had high hopes for a fair season as they worked feverishly to send our stalwarts into battle. The team lacked any outstanding height, and one big man was needed to fight for defensive rebounds so necessary for the protection of the team ' s basket. This deficiency hurt us throughout the season. The pre-league season found us playing home, and home games with Brockton. The first encounter saw us get off to a good start as Co-Captains Puopolo and Pisacreta, as well as Zichittella, produced a great effort on our part. The first half was a nip-and-tuck affair, but we nwnaged a great third quarter and finished the game on top. Our return game found us missing shot after shot in the first half, whereas Brockton couldn ' t miss. The second half was almost a repetition of the first half and we bowed in defeat by twnety points. In a single game against Winchester, we battled back and forth on even terms for three periods and then Zichittella and Pisacreta poured in baskets and the final outcome saw us in the victory column by two points. The opening of the league season saw us go against our old rival, Chelsea. The Red Devils proved to be no match for us in both games played. Coach Erickson cleared the bench in both games and all of our boys were in the scoring column. We won the first game by twenty-eight points and the second game by nineteen points. Our initial game with Medford proved to be a headache. We dropped behind in the first half and then started to surge back in the third period. Suddenly a difference of opinion arose in the stands. By the time the fracas was ended and order was restored, it was felt that it was better for all that the game be terminated at once. The result was a decided win for the Mustangs. The return bout in the Medford gym was orderly. We fell victim to a horrible seven points first period, and could not recover our composure for the remainder of the game. We suffered our second loss to them by a difference of thirteen points. Pisacreta had a real sharp eye against the Presidents of Quincy, which enabled us to come out on top by seven points. In the return game we got off to a fast start and led at the end of the first period by ten points. Then the bottom fell out as we could only score four points in the second period while they bombed to within two points of us. We took up the slack again in the third period, and forged ahead by seven points in the third and then went completely cold while Quincy again bombed us and came out on top by five points. We ran up against a real good Revere team in the next outing. They led us by five points the first half We stayed even with them in the third period but the fourth quarter became a runaway half, and we dropped this game by twelve points. The second game was even colder for us tlian the first as we fell behind by fourteen points at the half held our own in the third period, and then couldn ' t buy a basket in the final story as we dropped this game by twenty-two points. Di Santo had a good night against North Quincy, but to no avail. Our high scores were unable to hit, and the result was that we dropped behind in each period to end up on the short end of the score by nine points. The Golden Tornadoes of Maiden would have been a good game, except for the third period. We had another one of those seven point third periods, and this was our downfall, as we were poor defensivly and they romped by fifteen points. The Somerville game was a good game for three periods as we led the first quarter by four points, dropped behind by five points at the half held even at the end of three, and then ran out of gas and dropped this one by six points. Time does not permit a summation of the last three games before we go to press. To all the graduating members of the team, we say thanks for many happy hours spent in cheering you, win or lose. May your successes be numerous in future years. Quincy Everett Maiden Everett Somerville A big smile lit up the face of Coach Mulloy as he greeted a veteran squad in December. There was the nucleus of good material plus some untried ability in newcomers. Under the team leadership of co-Captains Barbati and Lahey this was to be the finest season in Everett ' s hockey history. To mention any one or two players as outstanding would Se an injustice to the squad as a whole. The team play was important factor to the entire group. The Crimson took to the ice to participate in two jamborees previous to the start of the league season. In both instances they won their games. The first was a decisive win over Masconomet Regional by a 6 to 1 count, and the second by a 4 to 2 score over Arlington Catholic. The scoring power of our team was displayed as Barbati had 3 goals, C. Brickley 2 goals, Lahey 2 goals, and Glufling, Labella, and Morganto one each. The defensive work of Moriarty, Niedzwicki, Dimitruk, and McLeod was great. We opened the league season against preseason favorite Quincy and they were downed easilv. We drove home seven goals to their one. Dimitruk and C. Brickley each had 2 goals while Barbati, Lahey, and Hensey each had one. Our next outing was aginast North Quincy and we cleared this barrier by a 6 to 3 count. Lahev and C. Brickley each had two goals while Barbati and Dimitruk had one each. This had been a close battle for two periods but the Tide could not be contained in the final period. We proved that we could almost become victims of our own overconfidence against Medford. We went off to a fast 6 to 1 lead and then fell victims. Nothing we did was right. The Mustang slowly pulled up to tie us. We managed to score again and save the day by a 7 to 6 margin. Barbati had three goals, Lahey two, and Hensey and Bricklev one each. II Revere proved to be a very stubborn adversary. They went into an early lead, but Lalicy came hack to tie it up. We finally came through in the third period on goals by Dimitruk, Hensey, and Lahey with his second of the night. We won 4 to 1. We shut out Chelsea by a 4 to 0 count. The work ofB. Brickley and the Simonelli brothers was a joy to behold. Barbati had two goals and C. Brickley and Glu fling one each. Our outing against Somerville saw us run up a fast 3 goal lead in the first period and then add one each in the next two. Scores were made by Hensey, Glu fling, C. Brickley, P. Simonelli, and Lahev in our 5 to 3 win. Our win string came to an end against Maiden in a bruising battle. Lahey and Morganto were the lone scorers for the Crimson as we were downed 5 to 2. In a battle of goals and a battle for diallowed goals we battled Quincy in a hair-raiser. The fans at Boston Arena witnessed a thriller. We lost two goals on Poor judgement calls which failed to help our cause. C. Brickley had four goals and Hensev had one in this 5 to 5 tie. We took our revenge for the past two games against North Quincy as we bombarded their goalie with forty-one shots. When the smoke of battle had cleared, we were the winners by a score of 8 to 1. Lahey had three goals, Barbati two, and C. Brickley, Hensev, and Dimitruk one each. In a close fought return game with Medford we battled scoreless for two periods. The final period saw B. Brickley and Lahey come through with great shots to eke out a 2 to 1 win. Revere gave us trouble again in the first period. We scored in the second period and Revere tied it up. From here to the finish it was all Everett. We finally romped by a 7 to 2 score. Lahey, Barbati, Morganto, and Dimitruk had the goals. The Chelsea team offered some opposition for a time, but once again we were not to be stopped. We topped the Red Devils by a 5 to 2 count on goals by the Brickley brothers, P. Simonelli, McLeod, and Moriarty. The Somerville game was all Crimson as we opened up a three goal lead in the first period and followed these with two each in the final stanzas. Barbati, C. Brickley, and Lahey each had two goals and the odd one went to Hensev in our 7 to 2 win. We revenged our loss to Maiden be tipping them over by a 5 to 3 count. This win put us in first place in the league race. Time does not permit a completion of all our scores before going to press. We know our team will do well in the State Playoffs, and, win or lose, they will be a great credit to Everett High. Good fortune to all our Seniors and mav each score his goal in his journey down the skating rink of life. Yearbook Queen Court of Honor Linda Fisher Patricia A. While here, we enjoyed all the thrills of championship teams in football, basketball, and baseball and we knew this was to be our destiny from now on. We were winners ! Here the girls discovered boys, and boys became more tolerant toward girls. We learned the hard way about the tyranny of the traffic squad and how impossible it was to break the rules. We discovered socials and class activities and the vicissitudes of time in the detention room. We tried and tried and tried and finally we saw a light in the distance. The year was passing and the long list of Parlin P winners became a certainty. All too soon came graduation and the end was here. The parting of the ways was a step toward the fulfillment of our greatest desire, we were now to be members of that awesome structure on Broadway, Everett High School. With our coming the world would be assured of salvation! After a summer of complete relaxation, with fear and trepdation, we made our way into our new home. This was where we were to follow in the footsteps of those greats who had made famous the deeds of years gone by. That first day was a nightmare! How small, insignificant, insemre, and stupid we felt among those upperclassmen! Our greatest first week accomplishment was getting lost. Then we gradually awoke and discovered free filing and freedom of speech in the corridors without the everpresent Gestapo to pounce upon you. This was heaven! We chose Eddie Puopolo as President: Paul Enfanto, Vice-President; Maureen Chipman, Secretary; and Linda Avakian, Treasurer. We sent our representatives to the School Council in the persons of Peter Feudo, Debbie Nuzzolo, and Joan Siracusa. Our first big offering was to hide in the background during the first protest of the student body. The Red Sox won the pennant that year and we decided we should have a half day off to watch the game. The Class of ' 70 soon realized that the cry of We Want Out was not the proper way to establish good relations with the administration, and took it upon themselves to lead the rest of the school back to classes. We proved we were right as we had a half day off the next day to watch the game. We proved our leadership early. As the year progressed, we joined clubs, participated in school activities, had great representation in sports, and had the usual number of poor work notices and fiunkies. Mr. McCauley, as submaster went after absentees as if they were going out of style. Before we realized it the year drew to a close, and the surprise of surprises, most of us found we were to enter the Junior Class. The hot summer days of luxury spent on the shiny, glamorous sands of Revere Beach passed, and we decided that, because we were such a vital necessity to higher education, we would return to school. How pitiful those insignificant little sophomores looked to us as we harassed them during the first few days. We quickly settled down to serious business as we proceeded to again elect Eddie Puopolo our President; Paul Enfanto. Vice-President; Loring Flint, Secretary; and Ralph Dumas, Treasurer. One more member of the class was added to the School Council as we elected Sharon Diamond, Doreen Donati, Angela Mazzarella, and Debbie Nuzzolo to be our representatives. Mr. McCauley became our new principal and Mr. Leo was chosen to fill the submaster ' s shoes. We would hai ' e been happier if these two positions had been left vacant in as much as we felt capable of running the school our own way. There was nothing spectacular about our football, basketball, hockey or baseball teams; but we can say our track team gave them all a good run for it! February proved to be a beautiful month! Only eight days of school as snow, snow, and more snow all but buried us! How about the gym roof that collapsed under the weight of all that beautiful white stuff. We made up for our enforced winter vacation in June. Things returned to normalcy in due time. This was the year Senator Ted Kennedy gave us an enlightening talk in assembly. Later Clare Mahfus and Dave Goss demonstrated their fine ability as Oratorical winners. Our first big event in the social world was our Junior Prom. A Dream Within A Dream proved to be just that. Little had we ever belie ed there to be so much beauty within our ranks as the fair sex glamorously led their manly male escorts about the dance floor. Then came the realization that this year was about over as we made our appointment cards for Yearbook pictures. The seniors left and we took over. Harvey Siegal was the recipient of the treasured Han ' ard Book Award, and many of us made the Honor Society. We were happy our Junior year was over, but still we were cognizant of the fact there was one more year, and only one more to go. Our final summer of freedom saw fewer of us enjoying a life of leisure as we managed to do a little work, as little as was possible. Back to school as Seniors with a firm determination to make this our best year in every respect. We chose John Clark to lead us with Bob Pisacreta, Maureen Chipman, and Karen Cognata to assist him as Class Officers. Our Council members were Debbie Nuzzolo as Chairman, Doreen Donati, Sliaron Diamond, Gil Delllsola, and Harvey Siegal. We had little time to ourselves in our quest for individual recognition as we participated in our protest for a day off for Moratorium for Peace Day. We soon went back to classes. We led the fight for freedom of dress with the advent of slacks for girls as well as culotts. This was indeed progress. Loring Flint was chosen as Editor in Chief of the Yearbook ably assisted by an outstanding staff Candids were taken, pictures were swapped and the year sailed along. We salvaged a disasterous football season with a win over Chelsea and then managed to enjoy a mediocre basketball season. Our pride and joy turned out to be a swell hockey season. The cold of winter came and went as we survived. Then came Spring in all her glory and the fabulous Senior Prom, the answer to a Senior ' s dream. We dined and danced at the Chateau De Ville amidst the glamor of untold beauty. This was a night never to be forgotten. In the meantime we studied, worried, took college boards, worried, and studied some more. Our future became a must and we gave serious consideration to the future. Suddenly time ran out on us. Class Day with all its frivolities and the ability of so many to stay out all night and for some the completiiion of, who is the biggest clown ! There were many winners in more ways than one. Then the road down the pathway of scholastic life came to an abrupt end. Our graduation was here. It was difficult to tliink that this was the end. This was the parting of the ways. We gazed about for a last look at the familiar faces, the familiar sounds of laughter, the intimate friends, the companions, the glories of days gone by. It was now we realized that these things were now a pari of our past, our history, our things to remember, but never to live again. We would miss these products of twelve short years. All we have is a reminder and our fond Memories. Some are good, some are bad, but all are ours. 148 The Class of 70 Autographs 149 i PARUN MEMORIAL LIBRARY 3 1759 00099 7365
