SEMDR CLASS HISTORY ACT I The opening scene of this drama takes place in the confines of that well known house of learn- ing, the Albert N. Parlin Junior High School, in the year of nineteen hundred fifty. Participating, is a well known cast of Frank Petroni, President ; Kathleen Donnelly, Vice Presi- dent ; and Anthony Pento, Secretary-Treasurer ; ably assisted by a mob-scene of about four hun- dred characters. Engendered and deep rooted in their collective minds is the very satisfying con- viction, that now at last, no longer is there a class of many, but rather a solid machine made up of many with a singleness of purpose. A sturdy lot, a vibrant group, a cast of workers all. We find that a freshman ' s life takes on a little brighter hue. Boy notices girl, girl responds. How delicately is handled the first real social on a Friday afternoon, and how improved they seem to be as the year passes. Activity is the bye-word as is proved by the overwhelming response to the call for athletic teams, debating teams, talent show, public speaking contest, band, orchestra, glee club and other varied activities. This all too short, action-filled, act is hi-lighted by the awarding of the Parlin P to eleven of the worthy cast. As the curtain falls the climax is reached with the entire cast being pre- sented certificates of achievement which grants them the privilege of carrying their play to a larger theatre. ACT H Adjustment of the cast to its new environment in the Everett High School seems, at first, to be chaotic. Like unwanted children they wander about, laughed at, scorned, and ridiculed. Gone is the dignity of its position in life. Gradually this class, like a ship on a stormy sea, seeks haven and guidance in its leaders of the past. Once again it ' s Frank Petroni as President, Anthony Pento as Vice-President, Toby Newman as Secretary, and Kathleen Donnelly as Treasurer. As an added feature to the leading players, we find greater student representation is needed. Our entire cast rises to the call and elects to student council Marion Bond, Theresa Pagnini, and Frank Vacca. The first taste of true unity comes in quick time as the class is represented on the football field by Caiazzo, Marques, Frontero and Sapienza. This is the first outward sign that the class of ' 54 is truly needed and welcome. The scene of action passes to the gym where the first social of the year is held, the Sophomore Hop. The Hop is no flop, but strange to say, both a social and financial success despite the handicap of the band being two and a half hours late, because of a snow storm the first night, and then failing to even show up at the next one. Progress is shown throughout the year as these little sophomores gradually adjust themselves and show their abilities by performing in the band, orchestra, Gilbert and Sullivan, and the Talent Show. As the year draws to a close, after what seems to be a dragged out length of time, we see our class a real threat to the upper classmen by their scholastic, athletic and social abilities. ACT HI September again and we gaze at the cast which is growing into young ladyhood and young man- hood. How they strut and Lord it over those poor sophomores. How short is their memory in one brief year. Once again Frank Petroni is chosen President, Anthony Pento, Vice President ; Jean Palmer, Secretary, and Rosemarie Cantalupi, Treasurer. Marion Bond, Toby Newman, Marguerite Pecci, and Ronald Vacca are chosen as members of the student council. In the field of sports Caiazzo, Frontero, Sapienza, Marques, Parziale, O ' Keefe, Lionette, Cocciardi, and numerous others are standouts. Once again. Dramatics, Gilbert and Sullivan, and the Glee Club are enforced by the members of the Junior Class. Football games, basketball games, dances, assem- blies and presentations of the various clubs all tend to make the burden of those terrible classes a great deal lighter. The climax of the year is the festive Junior Prom. A glorious time was had by all and thus ends the third act. ACT IV It seems only yesterday that this same group met in this same assembly hall for the purpose of home room distribution. The full forces of the realization that this is the last time does not strike this happy lot. Class officers are chosen with Frank Petroni, President; Joseph Parziale, Vice President; Rosemarie Cantalupi, Treasurer ; and Lois Mac- Crae, Secretary. The school council of Marion Bond, Peter Cocciardi, Ann Del Isola, Robert Lionette, and Ronald Vacca are chosen and at once swing into the task of preparing assemblies and functions to make this the biggest and the best year. Marion Bond is chosen Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook, ably assisted by Bob Lionette, Frank Vacca, Joe Parziale, and Leo Squatrito. The athletic teams, as mentioned in other pages, were ably represented by outstanding members of the class. Mr. Ashley, the Superintendent of Schools for many years, is the first member of this graduating class and receives his diploma on January first. Our former Principal at the Parlin Junior High, Mr. William P. Canty, is chosen to replace Mr. Ashley. Gradually March sneaks up on our heroes, and at long last, on the night of March 19, we see glamour and beauty present at the long awaited Senior Ball. Time melts into nothingness as the yearbooks are distributed. Class Day comes and goes, and the sad but happy occasion of the final official gathering of the class of ' 54 takes place. Graduation : The parting of the ways. Farewell classmates and actors all. May your future be just as bright and even brighter than what seemed to be so dull in the glorious past. [8]
