158 Varsity Cheerleaders perform Yield Mount during their night time performance at U.S.C.A. Competition. The 1976-77 Varsity Basketball Squad had a hard and rewarding year. They started off by taking 6 ribbons for cheerleading and mount skills, a ribbon for pom pon routine, and a ribbon for skit performance. All this lead to the success of a 1st. place National Trophy at U.S.C.A. Camps All American. This 1st. place trophy entitled them to compete in the Grand National Championships with 96 other champion squads throughout the United States. The U.S.C.A. Grand National Cheerleading Competition was held at the Civic Center on August 20th and 21st. The outcome of our girls was a place among the Top Twenty Cheerleading Squads in the United States and a place among the Top Ten in pom pon routine. These girls have performed at many clubs and organizations throughout the year including cheering the University of Michigan vs. Navy football game before 104,000 people on Sept. 25, 1976. These National Champion Cheerleaders are: Juniors: Martie Baker and Karen BalassOs. Seniors: Kathy Earley, Pam Parks, Lori Sandefer, Sue Smith, Cathy Taylor and Jill Whitecraft. Of course, you can't have a successful squad without having a fantastic coach, Mrs. Sharon Pettit.
