I Or say in return for men's blood that was shed What can I do to repay? We've fought lands from afar we,ve fought battles within And have never lost sight of our will to be free To give of myself is the call heard to me. What could I learn from men of today If the men of the past were forgotten Their work against odds laid out before them Were conquered through a faith in God. There've been millions in need in the past and today Who've been lifted by lives strongly guided To give of myself is the call heard to me What if the sun wouldn't shine and the storms rolled in Would tomorrow be the first day or would it he the end Of a new day of freedom, a rebirth of Love Only you and I hold the key. In the future years will our days be bright Will the new generation be willing to fight To give of ourselves is the call heard to me. Chorus: My America called me and I heard her voice She gave me cause for hope and the freedom of choice I heard the wisdom of a Dove saying No conquests have we And I saw the perfect light of my Fathers own son-Thank you, Lord, for making us free. .AL- Dennis Tice, a junior at EAHS, has given permission to reproduce this material from his original composition My America The copy represents the lyrics to his musical score which he composed for the My America Week Contest. We are proud of his effort and take this method to give Dennis the recognition we feel he deserves. l if qi: '10 V-9 f 2 i l 13, lil FOR EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON: . . . How true the words of Ecclesiastes. The Warrior Staff and their classmates of the Class of 1976 are at the season called graduation. . . . Because we graduate during the nation's Bicentennial, we have incorporated into this annual our nation's colors which are also our class colors. . . . We are the new spirit of '76 and as we reflect upon the birthday of the United States and its beginnings, we come to realize that graduation will be a beginning for us and not an end. We leave you with a cherished hope of joy for all of you and the promise of good memories of your own. 7 sq- A TIME To LAUGH . . . Throughout the busy school year we often experience the desire to laugh . . . to laugh at an inside joke shared with friends . , . to chuckle gleefully at collecting a bet on a bas- ketball game . . . to laugh through tears as unexpected honors come our way. Laughter makes the world go round. How could we do without it to release the daily pressure? 9 TI ETGDANCE... iTI ETO EEK A gymnasium transformed into at ballroom provides a relaxing atmosphere for dancing and enjoying ourselves. . . to express ourselves in the dances of our day. Ecclesiastes says there is a time to dance, but admonishes us that there is also a time to seek. The Bible encourages us to seek wis- dom and understanding-prime reasons for our schools to exist. We suggest you seek to live each day to its fullest and best that we may make this world a better place than we found it. AND. . .TO PEAK UP There are times when to be quiet is a virtue . . . quiet times to listen to what others have to say . . . to ponder . . . to get our head together . . . to study. Quiet times may be thrilling and reverent times of attentiveness during the playing of the National Anthem. However, silence is not always virtuous. There are times to speak out as did our forefathers in Philadelphia as they met to draft the Declaration of Independence . . . to remember our heritage as we speak the salute to the Flag each morning . . . or to give praise and friendship to those who need it. Zinn FTS NO BOUQUET OF ROSES being an underclassman in Z1 high school. An underclassman can be at the head of the lunch line and suddenly realize he is at the end-the big guys have all crowded in. It's being subjected to the advice of every wise senior who comes along, only to learn that seniors arenit quite as wise as they think they are. In junior high it means being the shortest in the school and ending up with a locker in the upper tier. On the plus side it is having an opportunity to bring about change and new ideas. Most importantly, it is being the hope for the future in the life of your high school. Each of the girls works two periods a week doing such jobs as checking books in and out, sending out notices, shelving books and working with pamphlets and magazines. With the experience these students receive from working in the li- brary they are better able to help teachers, other students and themselves make the best possible use of the materials available in the library. 94 l 1 CHIEFTAIN ROW 1: C. LITTLE ARRCW 'Q ,f Our newspaper staff is always on the go. They can be seen in the hallways taking polls or covering athletic events at home and away. You might see one of the students interview- ing a new teacher or preparing copy down in the typing rooms. They put a lot of effort into our school paper, The Chieftain , and it shows every time the paper comes out. The stepping stone to the Chieftain is the Little Arrow. The students employ the same methods as the Chieftain staff, but the Little Arrowl' is published for the Ir. High students. Though the Little Arrown is only a few years old, it is a hugh success and it has a good turnout of members. This year's staff members are: K. Williams, L. Foor, L. Chal- font, S. Harclerode, L. Clark, S. Clark, C. Mear- kle, C. Clark, T. Foor, B. Calhoun, D. Chiap- pelli, K. Wilkins, A. VonStein, Miss Kresge, T. F oor, AJ. Keeler, I. Clark, L. Induc- tion is held in the spring for the juniors and seniors who are guided by a committee of faculty members. After the students are inducted they must maintain a 3.0 average. If removed from membership, they can never attain it again. This is the highest scholastic honor a stu- dent can achieve at E.A.H.S. This year the National Honor Society members have been tutoring other students. Two local members have entered a scholarship contest for National Honor Society members all over the United States. The Red Raiders scored first, but Everett regrouped and went on to win the contest 12-6. Another victory came to EHS when the Ridge Lions withered under the onslaught waged by our Warriors. Chestnut Ridge retreated to their home territory after being blanked 21-0. The Warriors suffered from a lack of ball control the first time on the road. Everett turned over six fumbles to Bedford and had to return home losers to the Bisons 38-13. The EHS team regained its winning ways at home against the Tussey Titans. Victory was sweet as the Warriors ambushed Tussey 19-6. The Portage Mustangs stampeded on the Warrior turf and held our boys to their lowest tally of the season. Everett scored only once in the first half and were defeated 21-6. 126 This year's squad racked up its highest point total against Shade-Central City. Tied 7-7 in the first quarter, Everett found themselves and poured it on to forge ahead and win 35-7. A driving rain dampened Warrior spirit and hope at Southern Huntingdon when the Rockets defeated EHS 6-0. Everettis scoring potential was based on quickness and the muddy field was a major factor in our defeat. The last home game of the season was a disappointing one. The Warriors gave it everything they had, but Northern Bedford's Panthers had more and handed Everett a 26-0 shellacking. The season concluded at Williamsburg. EHS got off to a good start and scored in the first quarter. The Blue Pirates would not be denied, however, and scuttled Warrior hopes for a winning season by handing the Everett men a 22-6 setback, F GOTB LL GRADUATES -i-..- .Lg 55 . - , 15:35 QQ-55.1.9 'fiifs-Pal. They had been preparing for this trip for several months by studying the culture and customs of the country in ad- dition to the language. They experienced many new sights, sounds, and foods. First they visited the capital, Bogota where the highlights were a professional championship soccer game, the Museo de Oro, a cablecar ride to the peak of Monserrate, and an excursion to the village of Guatauita. The people were friendly and very outgoing. They visited two schools and made many new friends. Next they flew to the northern port city of Cartagena. The African influence was more apparent in this region. The students toured the city, shopped for souvenirs, and basked in the tropical sunshine. A visit to an open- air market was quite an experience. Familiar only with the supermarkets of the U.S., the students were now introduced to a totally different way of life. All produce was sold in the street and no sign of refrigeration was in evidence. They also visited the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, which was built to pro- tect the city from pirate raids. Today the city is still contained within the an- cient walls. While here, they experienced the taste of such items as papaya, arroz con pollo, paella, blackberry juice, and hajiaco. All the students on the trip felt it was worthwhile. TRIP TO COLOMBIA '55 kg f--I' GPECIAL SITTING: D. Tice CDistrict and Regional Bandl, B. Foy QDistrict and Regional Band, Indiana Honors Bandl.
