The movies we watch, the clothes we wear, the books we read, and the music We hear-all seem to have that essence of nostalgia hidden deep inside. So do we. That is why we present the 1975 edition of the Warrior with the words Memories Light the Corners of Our Minds. In our book we want to share all the memories of our high school days--the good and bad, the happy and sad, the successes and failures. Everything we have done in our high school years has now become a memory. 4 . -Q 4-X CORNERS OF OUR MINDS 1 4 WE HOPE THAT THESE MEMORIES OF THE FUN TIMES AT EVERETT That Fabulous Fifties Day . . . 1 6 ir' X Ni I X RW: M L. He graduated from Everett High School in 1951 Where he was very active in sports-lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He intended to pursue a career in coaching, but a knee injury prevented him from doing so. Mr. Shaffer worked his way through college to receive a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts at Millersville State College. He taught Industrial Arts at Bedford High School from 1964-1970, where he developed an interest in helping those academically and vocationally inclined. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling from Pennsylvania State University and came to Everett as a guidance counselor in 1970. Truly dedicated to his work, Mr. Shaffer is always ready to help students with a problem or answer any questions they may have. He is a hard-working man and a good husband and father. We are proud to have him as part of our school, and we thank him for his dedication to us. 15 Z The decent decent -q - S 4 1,1 , :vi 5 ,V r BE-p 4 1 T.'Q'2 U.f- . 11, 'vf'F- Gt.,x':Qi,' X '. ,',,1.1' V-'-'W'-1' 1 A 7 +ig1X'r Q Ig? -' f ,.'-P, is 1 1 .4 Q. , ,ff - .I K fi e' 4 .iii f . , .4 ,I XR '. Hard work and determination paid off when the girls put on a suc- cession of outstanding half- time shows during football season. The continuous prac- tice sessions were justified by the end result. An added factor in the success of the majorettes was the help of a professional advisor. The in- tricate routines Were well received by everyone because they were expertly executed. The personal appearance of the girls was really sharp. They took pride in their work and reflected it in a job well done. 104 vll I Nl SCH Z A. Secrest, J. Wilt, K. Hurley, S. Wolfe, K. Conner, M. Smith, S. Hood, L. Morris. The Everett Area High School Band is under the capable direction of Mr. Richard Swope, a Penn State grad who has been at EAHS for three years. He has been instrumental in providing us with a better Music Department. The band began practice for the new year in the late summer to be ready for the opening football game. It attends all games. This group performed many fine shows through the season and exhibited near perfection. When at home, they did a pre-game show. The EAHS band participated in the Halloween parades in Everett and Bedford. In addition it traveled to Penn State to be part of the Annual Band Day. Following football season the band practiced for its spring concert. This year we had two concert bands, the wind ensemble and concert band. An- other highlight of spring was the band banquet when the juniors received their jackets and the seniors their letters. PERSONNEL: KLEFTI ROW 1: D. Davenport, P. Peck, S. Keeler, L. Hartle, S. The Matchmaker - from which the musical Hello Dolly was based, starred Emily Phea- sant and Skyles Calhoun. The play, set in Yonkers, N.Y., in 1880, unveiled a very rich old merchant who decided to take a wife. He employed a match- maker, who consequently became involved with two of his menial clerks, various lovely ladies, and the headwaiter of a restaurant. At the restaurant the comedy ran to a hilarious climax of complication. As the play closed, Dolly not only found Horace a wife but arranged many other matches aswell. l ,,.1- .Wx - 15.54.-T 'X 'S' l v in J f an 115 NATIO ALHO OR OCIETY fr J. Chiappelli, J. Morral, K. St. Jerome Sports Meyersdale Area 0 30 Our Warriors opened the 1974 season at Meyers- dale and came home on the short end of a 30-0 score. The error-prone Warriors gave up three fumbles and a pass interception which the Red Raiders converted into four scores. Shade-Central City 0 12 On the road again-a repeat of the error-prone playing. A fumble and an interception resulted in two Shade scores and a 12-0 defeat for our stalwarts. The Warriors mounted sustained drives twice but lacked the punch which would have put a score on the boards. Bedford Area 20 36 The Warrior offense came alive against the Bedford Bisons. It was the first home game of the season and was played before a capacity crowd. The Bison's aerial attack proved too good, however, and Everett suffered another defeat 36-20. The Warriors fought valiently to the end but the 22 points Bedford had scored in the second quarter proved too much to overcome. Tussey Mountain 12 12 Tussey Mountain was Everett's fourth adversary. The contest ended in a heartbreaking 12-12 tie when Tussey scored with only 38 seconds remaining on the clock. The fired-up Warrior squad, playing their hardest hitting game, made the Titans turn over the ball five times because of fumbling. Portage Area 14 37 Portage Area handed the Warriors their fifth defeat 37-14. The Mustangs-who ended their season un- defeated-gained a 30-0 halftime lead. Everett, un- relenting to the final whistle, scored 14 points in the final period of play. Chestnut Ridge 30 0 The Chestnut Ridge game gave Everett its first taste of victory. The boys took Ridge 30-0 on the Fishertown field. Rolling up a 308-108 total yard advantage, EAHS broke the game open in the second half with a 24 point bombardment. The offense had finally taken hold and Everett's defense was also able to stymie the Lions all afternoon. 126 WARRIOR FO VARSITY , ROW 1: D. Morgret, D. Yuronich, B. Baraniak, M. Hush, R. England, S. Huntingdon Co. 6 58 Everett met Southern Huntingdon Canother power- ful and soon to be undefeated teaml on the home field. The Warriormen suffered a stinging 58-6 defeat after taking the opening kickoff and staging a 70-yard march for a brief moment of glory. Unfortunately for us, from that point on the high-flying Rockets owned the ballgame. No. Bedford County 6 34 Game eight pitted Everett against Northern Bed- ford County and NBC came out on top 34-6. The Pan- thers, holder of the best record of any county team, took a 20-0 halftime lead. Everett's lonely six points came in the final period of play. Williamsburg Comm. 8 35 The Warriors returned to their own hunting grounds for the season's final game-only to be stung by the devastating passing attack of the Williams- burg Blue Pirates 35-8. Injuries to key players and many error-filled games were the major factors contributing to a long and losing season. The squad, however, never gave up and falthough on the losing end most timesl displayed a fighting spirit. How a man plays the game demon- strates something of his characterg how he loses shows all of it. J .V. M Everett cheerleaders had a hectic year-round schedule. In June they participated in a cheerleading clinic sponsored by the Nationwide Cheer- leading Association and held at Juniata College. They learned new cheers, chants, skits, and pom-pom routines. The varsity squad participated in com- petition and won the third-place Out- standing Squad trophy plus numerous ribbons. After the clinic they took a break until August when they began practice. Each week night of the month they were at the school for approximately two hours practicing cheers and planning activities for each sports season. With school underway, four nights a week were devoted to cheerleading. Practice consumed one of their evenings and games three. This routine con- tinued throughout February. Once the season ended preparations for next season got underway with try- outs which were held in May. 142 us C Hammond S Showalter ROW2 D Foor J Whetstone C Showalter.
