Nineteen Hundred Seventy-Three WARRIOR Volume 37 Everett Area High School Everett, Pennsylvania Cynthia Davis Editor MILLER C. HOOD Supervising Principal 1947-1966 Superintendant of Schools 1966-1972 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. In Memoriam Foreword We present the 1973 edition of the Warrior with the words, We've only just begun in mind. School is meant to prepare us for the business of living, to help us make something of ourselves. What will we become? Or what will become of us? Doctors, lawyers, ministers, engineers—or drug addicts, alcoholics, and used car salesmen? It's too early to tell, for we've only just begun. The Warrior Staff has labored long and hard to bring forth this creation, our contribution to the literary world, and, insignificant though it might be considered, we are proud of it. Many hours were sacrificed to hard work, to the puzzling task of producing an interesting, creative book with no previous experience—and getting it to the printer's on time. In spite of all the blood, sweat, and tears, or perhaps because of it, we are content, and even delighted with our accomplishment, if for no other reason than that we know it is unique. Cynthia Davis, editor; Charles Kennedy, advisor CONTENTS Seniors....... Besides his regular demanding occupation of teaching business subjects, Mr. Kennedy serves as advisor to the Warrior Staff. This was his first year in this position, and we feel that he got more than his share of gray hairs, having to cope with his own lack of knowledge as well as our ineptitude. As he sometimes put it, I tremble in bed at night! However, we believe that he came through it all admirably, handling major and minor crises with wisdom and fortitude, sometimes cheerfully. Mr. Kennedy, this is our way of saying—THANKS!!! 4 5 CLASS OF 1973 CLASS OFFICERS Donald Miller, Cynthia Davis, Joni Shambach, Karen Pennel, Maxine Shuffler, Cindy Mearkle Class Motto: WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN Class Colors: CHERRY AND SILVER Class Flower: RED ROSEBUD President........................Donald Miller Vice-President.................Maxine Shuffler Secretary................................Karen Pennel Treasurer....................Cindy Mearkle Chaplain.....................Joni Shambach Historian....................Cynthia Davis Advisers: Miss Cullen, Chairman; Mrs. Barndollar, Mrs. Daniels, Mr. Kennedy 8 STEPHEN BLACKSTONE PHILIP BRAMBLEY BERNARD BRANTNER 9 JAMES BULGER ANGELA CALHOUN JOSEPH CARO THEODORE CALHOUN KAREN CALHOUN JACQUELINE CESSNA 10 JAYLENE CESSNA DENNIS CLARK DONNA CLARK DUANE CLARK EUGENE CLARK JAMES CLARK MOST POPULAR Donald Miller Maxine Shuffler RICKY CLARK 11 ROY CLARK BEST VOCALIST Joni Shambach Dennis Ritchey 12 KAREN COLE ROY CONRAD THOMAS COOPER KATHY CORNELL CONNIE CORNELL JANICE CORNELL THOMAS CRACAN CYNTHIA DAVIS 13 W. The year began on a fine note as the team won its first four games—but the Warriors hit a mid-season slump and all title hopes seemed to vanish. However, through hustle and determination, the players rallied. Defeating the Northern Bedford County and Hyndman High Schools in the playoff games, Everett High became the Bedford County League Champions. Playing heads-up ball, the team, backed with excellent pitching, defeated Central Fulton and powerful Somerset to reign as the District V Champs. Our congratulations to this outstanding squad and their coach, Mr. Bob Foor, for capping off the most successful sports year in Everett athletic history. 4 R. Hartle Everett Cops Title BERLIN — Everett High School whipped Somerset 3-1 Wednesday and won the District 5 baseball championship. The Warriors, who concluded a 15-4 campaign, nipped Central Fulton 2-1 Monday in a first-round game. Winner John Fabian, who struck out nine and walked two. saw a 37-inning scoreless string end in the second when Somerset tallied on an error and Bob Mayer's triple. Everett decided the title with three in the fourth. Two errors and a walk loaded the bases and Dennis Shaw and Dennis Ritchey stroked runscoring singles. The final run was forced over on a hit batsman. Somerset 010 000 0-1 S 3 Everett 000 300 x-3 5 2 Quakers and Meyer: Fabian and Morgret J. Fabian D. Ritchey GRADUATES D. Clark V.
