Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1960 volume:

Everett Pennsylvania CD dication j Eliza S. Howard, R.N. We, the Class of 1960, deem it an honor to dedicate this, the twenty-fourth volume of the Warrior, to Mrs. Eliza S. Howard. For many years Mrs. Howard has acted as mother, doctor, and comforter in her role as school nurse. Though she deserves much more recognition than we can possibly give, we shall always remember her untiring efforts in our behalf. To her, then, we dedicate this annual. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work and devote mysell to the welfare of those committed to my care. — from the Florence Nightingale Pledge J'Ohsnoohd. With pride we, the Class of 1960, present the twenty-fourth volume of the WARRIOR. Through our dedicatee we have tried to bind together this collection of vivid remembrances. Throughout the main divisions, the “lady in white” is found helping out wherever she is needed. Since this is our last effort as a class to impress ourselves upon you, we hope that, as you reminisce, you will find something which will recall happy moments when you think of the Class of I960. Mearl Kemberling, Editor KEMBERLING, TRAIL dioalth (jh ck The School Nurse cares for injuries sustained at school. Open wide, says Dr. Pointer as he prepares to make a dental examination. His assistant, Mrs. Coote, stands by; and the School Nurse is ready to record results. Dr. McCahan, school examining physician, administers tuberculin tests as a part of the school health program. Mrs. Cauley, secretary of the Bed-ford-Fulton County Tuberculosis Society, is helping. Administration Faculty Office Staff School Directors OjdminuJjxcdtwn Miller C. We numbered one hundred ninety-eight. As the school days passed, we became acquainted with one another and many lasting friendships developed. All too quickly our junior high school years were over, and now we were sophomores. Our number had diminished to one hundred eighty-three, but our enthusiasm had increased. We took part in more activities and worked harder at our studies. We still found time for fun, laughter, and all the big and little experiences that built the foundation of our high school memories. Our junior year was full of study and responsibilities. One hundred forty-seven students worked hard and did their part to increase the funds in our treasury. We sold hats, presented the annual Junior Class play, and sponsored the Prom. By the end of the term, we realized how swiftly time passes and that soon we would be starting our final year. Eager and yet reluctant, we awaited the day. Then it was here! Oh, how busy we were! With one hundred thirty-three members, we were going to be the largest class ever to be graduated from E. S. H. S. So we assumed our responsibilities and started to work. Name cards were ordered; our class motto, flower, and colors were selected. We sold magazine subscriptions, had our pictures taken, and cheered our football team to its greatest victory, the Inter-County Conference Championship. As our school days draw to a close and Commencement looms ahead, we experience all the emotions that other graduates have felt before us; however, we know our memories are not the same. The times we faltered and met defeat helped us grow a little wiser, and the times we spent together laughing, talking, and sharing as a class will not soon be forgotten. The door of adulthood stands before us, waiting to be opened; and as we reach for it, we know that we are ready. We also know that the door to our school days cannot be closed permanently. It is there in our memories, waiting to be opened whenever we want to look back on those wonderful years. — KATHLEEN BARLEY, '60 Thirty Eight CLASS OFFICERS President ......... VICTOR WOY Vice President BONNIE COLEMAN Secretary .... HARRY FELTON Treasurer .... JOHN BOLLMAN CiaAA O 1961 BOLLMAN. WOY, FELTON. COLEMAN CLASS HISTORY As the members of the Class of '61 reminisce, our thoughts go back to 1956, the first year in the new school, when we were frightened seventh graders taking part in the various activities of the Junior High and thinking of the day when we would be eighth graders. The year passed swiftly, and the thoughts of the future became reality. We were now the eighth graders we had admired before. As we moved along in life and became freshmen, our thoughts were of a more serious nature. We sponsored our first skating party to earn money. The next year was not like the past years when we moved from one grade to the next. It was more of a graduation — a graduation from Junior High to Senior High. We were quite happy with our new position as upperclassmen taking part in the activities of the Senior High. This year has been a busy one for our class. We held a class play, Brother Goose, and the girls sponsored a bake sale to earn money for the Junior-Senior Prom. All this, however, has been history and our thoughts are turned to what is yet to be. We shall be Seniors, and we shall graduate into life with the knowledge we have acquired here at Everett Southern High School. — JOHN BOLLMAN, '61 Thirty Nine QIoaa d$ 1961 HOMEROOM 216 ROW I: A. KENNETH PITTMAN CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1956 we became the second group of seventh graders to enter the new high school. Although we were quite scared and unsure of ourselves, we soon began to gain self-confidence and became acquainted with the other students. A few joined clubs, and some of the boys participated in junior high sports. In a short time we found ourselves to be in the eighth grade. This year proved to be rather uneventful. When we became freshmen, we held a skating party to raise money and took a more active interest in school life. Now we are sophomores. We are working hard to earn money for the class treasury. We have sold salt water taffy, ballpoint pens, and fruit cakes. We are looking forward to our junior and senior years, which will complete our high school education and help to prepare us to fulfill our plans and dreams for the future.
