VOL.WE EVERETT SOUTHERN HIGH SCHOOL Olma VYlcdsih Everett High, so true. How we all love you! And we're proud to say, You belong to us alway. Everett High, we call Greatest school of all. Victory or deleat, We'll all repeat Our praise for Alma Mater, Everett High J'OhAWOhd The Class of 1959 is proud to present this, the twenty-third volume of the Warrior. In its pages you will become acquainted with all the hands that helped to create the history of this school term: The hands of the teachers, who guided us through many trials and tribulations within and without the classrooms The hands of the music and dramatics directors, who taught us to appreciate the fine arts and to express our talents The hands of the coaches, who molded our athletes The hands of the cooks and of the bus drivers and of the custodians, who contributed their efforts in our behalf The hands of our schoolmates, who played their own roles in the making of this history May you enjoy reading this annual and reminiscing over the recorded events for many years. Dahlon Ritchey, Editor Dewayne Leader, Co-Editor THE 1959 WARRIOR PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS EVERETT SOUTHERN HIGH SCHOOL EVERETT, PENNSYLVANIA Charles R. Kennedy (DodiaxiLon We, the Class of 1959, are pleased to dedicate the 1959 Warrior to Charles R. Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy, a senior class adviser, came to Everett in January, 1953, to teach in the Business Education Department. He has been Head of the Department for the past five years. His classes respect him as a sincere, conscientious teacher who strives to help every student perform his best. His willingness to help others is a challenge to all who work with him. When tickets are to be made, programs printed, letters typed, stencils prepared — Mr. Kennedy is always ready to suggest a novel idea and to help. He is cheerful and witty and is a friend worth cherishing. For these reasons, we dedicate this annual to Mr. Kennedy, and we wish him continued success and happiness in his chosen profession. As we go our separate ways, there will be many moments when we pause and look back upon these years with fond memories. We shall remember the excitement and expectation that only a freshman can experience on the first day he enters a new school. How much has happened since our Freshman days! Our Sophomore year was one of important decisions as we chose the subjects and activities that would prepare us for the future. We were busily engaged in classwork and homework and in sports and clubs. We earned money by selling sweatshirts and candy. With the Junior year came class rings, the play, “That Brewster Boy, and the Junior-Senior Prom with the theme, Springtime. We began to realize that time was passing swiftly and worked harder and harder toward our goals. Our Senior year-our busiest and our best! Finally we reached this long-awaited time, and we could not have hoped for a more successful year. We exchanged our Senior pictures and namecards with our many friends. We worked hard in the magazine campaign and the Senior Class play, Curtain Going Up, to increase the funds for our Washington trip, a trip that will long be remembered. We excelled in sports and in our studies, still finding time to order announcements, be measured for caps and gowns, and choose our class motto, flower, and colors. The memory of Prom night. Baccalaureate, and Commencement will be surpassed by little else. Now we have come to the end of one of the most eventful periods in our lives. For four years we have worked, laughed, and played together. With mixed emotions we now leave behind us these happy days, taking with us into the future the many friends, wisdom, stronger ideals, and dreams that we have found here. Whatever we do, wherever we go, whatever we become, we will never forget the memory of our life at Everett Southern High School. — SUE LEHMAN Thirty Three QIoaa joft 1959 Thirty Four ClcuiA of 1959 t d f C 9 £ ■ V o H. g _ JQ J-J ■s ; 1 i T-:'' : ’i ’' C y %o . , C 5 9 5 x x t o r 3 9 c fi V « C O {Jfj « « 7 ? q5 s ' 1 o s s i V £ Z .%v L V W % w r V X s CJ 0 0 • k o - if - ): 0 9 0 S O' 3 •i o « y H 3 J Q 3 c 9 9 .o 1 'V, . £ • 5= 4 . « 3 •V -v V r S K. ? s 1 .i i ° o k. lj 3 £ s N if £ | S % N. t s K, w - W N . 3 J 1 5 £ -s w 9 V j 3 t v S « to fW to-) 5 3 1 ss 2 « $ $ ' S | j t 3 0 h n i o CD S v J'S ; n : « cS 1 i $ w 2 0 v ' iM s 4 { i 3 e S't 0 ‘Z. o ' O | V U ] w 0 w N 9 . Uah CLASS HISTORY There we were in '56 — invading the corridors, seeking out our friends, and feeling inferior to those big kids ahead of us. The year came and was gone, and with it went our inferiority complex. Next we were Sophomores, gaining social prestige by the minute and busily going about our duties as seasoned veterans. The class treasury was boosted by a project involving the sale of “belly-aches at $1.00 a box. By now our thoughts were turning more serious as we anxiously awaited that glorious hour when we could be called Juniors. By this time it was September of '58, and we embarked on perhaps the busiest year of our life. A tougher curriculum and seemingly no spare time kept us well occupied. Through these trying times the class managed to present a successful play entitled “Almost Eighteen ; to finance the social event of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet; to order our highly esteemed class rings; to fill many key positions on the school championship teams. Life does not end here; nor will it next year; but it will continue through the years, depending upon how well we have prepared ourselves in these hectic days. Whether we be leaders or followers, we shall forever hold the functions of our Junior year in fondest memory. — MEARL KEMBERLING Thirty Six ClaAA of I960 HOMI-ROOM 202 ROW I: ). Clark. B. Clark. J. This first year passed rather calmly — not because we lacked spirit or enthusiasm, but because our activities were considerably limited and restricted. Finally that year ended, and the next began. We were eighth graders. Then we became Freshmen! The boys participated in various sports and the girls joined clubs. At the end of our freshman year we had a skating party to make money. Now we are Sophomores — quite grown-up and beginning to look forward to next year and the years to follow. As we reminisce and look ahead to the future, we can proudly say that we shall be the first class to complete our high school education in its entirety within the walls of the new Everett Southern High School. — JUDY HARCLERODE Thirty Nine ClaAA of 1961 ROW I ROW 2 ROW 3 ROW 4 ABSENT HOMEROOM 100 I.
