Even though everything seemed new and strange to us, we soon became acquainted with the school and its superiors. As we woke to our sophomore year, we made a grand entrance into the new Everett Southern High School by taking a bigger and better part in the school's various activities. Some of us joined clubs, while others participated in sports or in the band and the chorus. We began thinking about our finances by selling sweatshirts and sponsoring a skating party. When we became juniors, we accepted more and more responsibility in our class, in the classroom, and in extracurricular activities. We began thinking seriously about our trip to Washington as we held our class play Clementine, which was a grand financial success. During the evening of the Junior-Senior Prom, the theme of which was Starlight, we realized that this was the last gathering with the seniors and that at the end of the evening we would become the next leaders of our school. Finally, we became seniors and our goal was almost completed— almost. There was still much to be done. Along with various other things seniors must do, we had our pictures taken; ordered our announcements and name cards; chose our class motto, flower, and colors; and were measured for caps and gowns. On some of these, along with our successful magazine campaign, we received discounts and profits which went into our treasury. Although we had our hands full doing all these things, we still found time to present our senior class play, The Campbells Are Coming. As the day of Baccalaureate and Commencement draws near, we as seniors, with the education we received at ESHS, hope to aid our community and nation in some way. We thank the teachers and underclassmen for the inspiration that has led us toward our goal—graduation from our Alma Mater. It begins in ancient times—'way back in September '55 when we entered high school. It takes a great imagination to remember the shy, bewildered freshmen that we were. We had the honor of being the first freshman class in the new high school. Then came the second era in our development. We were sophomores and were all busily involved in the task of earning money for our class by selling candy and scarves. We selected the subjects and activities that would prepare us for our future life. We have now evolved from the past and have become juniors. This has been the busiest year in all our history. To earn money, we sold candy, held a skating party, and produced the play, That Brewster Boy. We ordered our class rings and held the annual Junior-Senior prom. Our classes were much harder; and oh, how we studied! The saga of the future can not be written. Who can tell what it will hold for us? We can only hope for success and happiness as we strive toward our goals. SUSANN LEHMAN, Class ol 1959 Thirty Two JksihQA a 'fyh cd (Day fominq ROW ROW ROW 1 —Mrs. Grimm. S. 2— L. Smith. D. 3— J. President MEMORIES The time was the fall of 1955; the setting was the new high school; and the players were all of those very frightened but excited eighth graders gathered from all the schools in the district to perform the first act of their performance. The action centered around getting acquainted. The second act was the freshman year, when the less frightened and very proud players found themselves adapted to their roles and performing their parts well. A highlight of the act was a skating party. Now it is Act Three, and the players are sophomores. Their performance involves working on money-making projects and preparing to step into roles which will be vacated by the older and retiring actors. They look forward to the last two acts of their drama, which they know will hold more excitement and more action than all the past. Wilt THE STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, the governing body of the school, tries to solve problems and promote various activities for the student body. The selection of a football queen every year is one of the main activities. A little later in the year the Council sponsors a Valentine Dance. In March or April, Career Day is held in order to give students firsthand information about various careers. Career Day is made possible by the Council plus the co-operation of Mr. Atty, the guidance counselor. Smoke Signals, a news flyer published by the Student Council, is a new undertaking this year. The Council likes to have the co-operation of the students at all times, for only in this way can its activities be beneficial. Sixty Two Jjcuoud Vn On STUDENT COUNCIL ALTERNATES ROW I —B. Grubb. S.
