Indiana State Teachers College University of Pittsburgh Principal of High School THE LIFE WORTH LIVING There is a life that is worth living and that life is the honest and useful life cleansed by devotion to an ideal. There is a battle worth fighting—a battle for justice and equality: to make our Community, State, and Nation free in act as well as in name, to break the Isms that strangle real liberty and to keep them broken, to cleanse, so far as in our power lies, the foundations of our national life from political, commercial, and social corruption, and to teach our sons, and daughters, by precept and example, the honor of serving such a country as America. That is work worthy of the finest manhood and womanhood. My sincerest wish is that the Class of 1948 live the type of life that will be commendable in whatever community they may live. Page thirteen

There are two kinds of education—that obtained from schools and that obtained from the experiences of life. A person who is progressive takes advantage of both kinds of education. The education obtained from schools is a preparation for adult life in a democracy. It so enriches our experiences that every boy and girl is provided an opportunity to acquire the good habits, the skills, and the moral stamina required to meet life’s demands. The School of Experience is never out! Experience teaches us that each one must earn his place by doing his part; that nothing is worth doing that does not help others; that human progress throughout the ages has depended on people who did more than their share. May your future be a life of health, happiness, and prosperity. Page twelve
