ExLlBRlS THE STUDIO ALMA MATER Everett High, so true, How we all love you! And we’re proud to say “You belong to us always.” Everett High, we call Greatest school of all. Victory or defeat, We’ll all repeat Our praise for Alma Mater, Everett High. THE WARRIOR 19 4 1 Produced by THE SENIOR CLASS EVERETT H. S. EVERETT, PA. FOREWORD As we make our “exit” from the “studio” in which we made our “debut” four years ago, we wish to leave this “Photoplay” as a connecting link between our “rehearsals” and our “main production”. May this book, in later years, remind us of familiar “scenes” and “settings” in which we labored to make the most of ourselves. NOW SHOWING 1. NEWS REEL 2. FEATURE PRESENTATION 3. Page seven D I RECTOR TARENCE G. WILL, B.S., M.Ed. University of Pittsburgh Supervising Principal, Everett Schools. THE SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Our nation has launched upon a tremendous armament program. This step is imperative in the face of conditions with which all of you are familiar. Arms alone, however, are not enough. We must at the same time mobilize our intellectual, moral, and spiritual resources. Here education is the crucial factor. Education is fundamental to the national defense against enemies both within and without. Our system of universal public education, constantly adapted to changing needs and problems, is the greatest common defense the American people have erected or can erect. It is the opportunity of your generation to carry this message to the American people by vigorous, concerted effort throughout the entire nation. It is of the utmost importance that this be done. Other demands for public funds make it increasingly difficult to finance education. Meanwhile, new problems confront the schools as the nation moves into a new period of world history. Therefore, learn and grow by assuming responsibility for your own and your neighbors' welfare. Self-governing people will make mistakes, but mistakes are often growing points in life, just as aches are growing pains with youngsters. The points of tension in civic life are usually the points at which growth is taking place. The community is merely a symbol of our larger self, and we cannot be at our best unless we contribute to the community welfare. Our first act is to assume responsibility for our own life and determine to make it radiate its influence in community life. The school and home are integral parts in the larger units of our welfare, that without good government, the school and home suffer. So tied together by science is all mankind that we simply live in a world of human brotherhood. All of our natural instincts are multiplied by wise education. It is in the schools that the intelligent direction of our entire life is laid. The common schools are maintained by all the people for the advancement of all the people; and to maintain and improve the quality of citizenship is the first duty of our schools. Page forty-eight Page forty-nine PICTURE SEPTEMBER. 1937 The “Freshmen daze” are some of the most important of a high school pupil’s life. Vacation announced—a sigh of freedom—the realization two days later that vacation had ended the day before. Result—one office call. DECEMBER. 1937 And then that Parrot dance! After partners have been found, tickets bought, and the night has arrived comes the remembrance that feet have never become accustomed to the rhythm of music. FEBRUARY, 1938 But when an operetta comes up with the dramatic club, chorus, ar.d orchestra all participating and no dancing required, “Him and Me” attract and finally win; and many bashful beginners come out of their shells. OCTOBER, 1938 Wonder why a lot of handsome men are limping around ? An inquiry reveals that, as soccer has started, the ball is usually missed and shins are suffering. MARCH, 1939 Everett wins the league title by pulling a fast one on Saxton and, rounding up the “old crony”, Bedford, ties the knot for the county title and a highly successful season. DECEMBER, 1938 One slide, two slide—no, no, don’t dance! Don’t watch your feet! That’s right! No, keep in step with your partner! Don’t get that candle too close to her hair! Yes, only you forgot to sing. OCTOBER, 1939 The Leap Year party tempted and many couples appeared, which goes to prove which is the more bashful sex. Page fifty REVIEW FEBRUARY, 1940 The Tri-Hi-Y had a birthday. Everyone had a grand time at the party playing games and singing after the serious part was over. Delicious refreshments were served, but that cake really took the prize. APRIL, 1940 Victory is in the air. The rooters are on the bleachers. The girls are on the floor. Magnetic baskets attract the ball. Overhead a trophy gleams. Results—Everett girls untied and undefeated. NOVEMBER, 1940 A ghostly light gleams through the darkness—weird music floats from nowhere—a shutter bangs—a gun gleams—a mysterious sleeper disappears and then reappears—a scream is heard—“The Green Light” again is staged. DECEMBER, 1940 Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong! No, not church bells, wedding bells. Mr. and Mrs. Hudson, we wish you much happiness and a very successful married life together. FEBRUARY, 1941 A Mother’s cry “I shall Be Waiting” gives him the courage to go back and serve the remainder of his prison term. Shippensburg ate it up, Penn State requested it, and everyone who saw it liked it. What more could a cast want. MARCH, 1941 Dangerous roads—cold winds; big city-small-town boys; high spirits—expensive hotel; Duquesne—Pitt Stadium; nervous players—excited coach; Duquesne’s high score—Everett’s low score. JUNE, 1941 Together for the last time. The solemnity of the caps and gowns. The faculty, aloof, academic figures. It’s the high noon of life— commencement. As we drive away we look back at our Alma Mater. Our eyes follow the lines of the shadow where somewhere we found the dreams and aspirations from which we are to make our lives.
