FASHIUN 'S MY PASSIO By Caroline Dehnert Concert tee-shirts, Mexican bags, and leather jackets, these arejust a few of this year's latest fashions. By taking an average, fashion-conscious student here at Evanston, Iet's start with the feet first and then move up. Leather boots, the kind that you'd usually see only in Texas are here in Evanston. The boots range from the ankle boots that lace all the way to the top to boots that reach half-way up the calf. There are also the ever- popular penny loafers. People wear them with torn jeans - maybe trying to dress up the jeans a little. Then there are peo- ple who wear Ked gym shoes. Keds are good because often you can get away with wearing these in gym if your teacher doesn't notice that you're slip- ping all across the floor. Moving up a little, we come across those torn jeans. The Guess jeans you had in eighth grade now have gi- ant holes in the knees. Some also have holes in more unusual places that are sewn up with bandanas. While l'm on the sub- ject of jeans, I have to mention those old comfortable Levi's that are now cut into shorts coming down to the knees. With thejeans, orjust about anything, go the leather belts. l've seen leather belts with tee-shirts, Ox- fords, and worn around dresses. The larger the belt, the better. That was the bottom half, now for the top. Long-sleeve Oxfords are a classic. This year, they're different because peo- ple wear them buttoned up to the collar. Remember when, last year, if someone did this he was 16 FASHION considered a nerd? That was then, this is now, is all I can say. On top of the Oxfords, people wear blazers. Black and white checked, beiges, and khaki green are popular colors. Dad's old suits are a nice source for jackets, and thrift stores have them cheap if you're lucky. The other popularjacket is the leath- er bomber jacket. Unfortunat- ley, these often cost a small for- tune. On the jewelry scene, the latest is big, silver, hoop earrings. As long as they don't rip your ears off, they can be worn with almost anything. Guys are also wearing earrings. Most guys wear small gold studs, but every once in a while, you'll see one with a gold hoop. Of course, I couIdn't cover all of this year's fashions, but, hey, some are too outrageous to mention anyways. TOP RIGHT - Peter Borg wears a homemade tie-dye: a flashback from the sixties. LEFT - Naomi Harter shows the new 80's trend: black clothes with white skin. LO WER RIGHT - Tammie Kelly has the con tinuing trend of sweatshirts with logos.
