RETUR T0 RENA SSANC lt was one night in January 1987, when court jesters, sor- cerers, and monks came alive again in Beardsley Gymnasi- um. Freshman humanities stu- dents, on this night, were giv- en the chance to experience life of the Middle Ages. 'iYou get to experience medieval festivals instead of just watch- ing them in the movies, said freshman Debbie Ungerleid- er. The festive evening began with students marching in showing their newfold fash- ions to the parents. There were various costume ideas: jesters, evil sorcerers, priests, peasants, monks, and others. UA lot of people were wearing costumes reflecting on me- dievel and Renaissance times, and how they would have liked to have been dur- ing that time, said Milena Jo- vanovic. Not only were the students sporting their styles, but some of the teachers dressed up as well. There were dances presented by both students and faculty as well as the leg- endary storytelling of English teacher Syd Lieberman. Debbie said, 1 thought the evening was really organized and everyone was in spirit. The evening ended with ev- eryone, including parents, gathering together to watch acrobats, maypole dancing, and juggling. Milena said, I thought it was educational and fun for the kids, because the parents came to see it and you got to see the teachers dancing. Both Debbie and Milena be- lieve that Medieval Revels is a great experience. Debbie said, UI think that most students got a better un- derstanding of what it was like in that time, and while leam- ing a lot, we had a chance to have a good time with every- one.
