ReporTers hurry To pick up These assignmenTs and To have The finished sTory ready and Turned in by The deadline seT by Their edifor, usually eiTher Friday or The following Monday. As The sTories come in, wriTTen ouT in long-hand by The reporTers, They pass from one superior ediTor To anoTher and are mean- while Typed, so ThaT by The Time They have been okayed by The deparTmenTal ediTor, news ediTor, copy-desk sTaff, associaTe ediTor, ediTor-in-chief, and faculTy adviser, There is a liTTle possibiliTy ThaT a single error will creep inTo prinT. Page make-up is compleTed by The Tuesday of The week of disTri- buTion, and The compleTed page-proofs go To The prinTer. From The day-by-day rouTine of wriTing, checking, and re-wrifing, The members of The Evansfonian sTaff This year Took Two disTincT vacaTions. The firsT was The annual ChrisTmas parTy. l-leld in The week iusT preceding The ChrisTmas holidays, when The re- porTers were unbofhered by ThoughTs of assignmenfs and deadlines, This affair provided an aTTernoon's respiTe from affairs of sTaTe. Each deparTmenTal sTaff presenTed a skiT or some oTher form of enfer- Tainmenf, and refreshmenTs were served free of charge To Top off a gay affernoon. The second annual Journalism Ball provided The oTher deparfure from rouTine. In The spring of l935, The Evansfonian sTaff managed and presenTed To The school a novel form of dance. Called The Ben Franklin Ball in honor of ThaT early paTron of The TourTh esTaTe, The parTy feaTured novel decoraTions, good music, and an all-sTar floor-show. This year's dance forgof The Colonial TradiTion seT by iTs suc- cessful predecessor and called ifself The Harold Teen I-lop. Aided by The friendly services of Mr. Carl Ed, creafor of I-larold Teen, The l-lop reached a new high in enTerTainmenT value, reTaining all The besT feafures of The Ben Franklin Ball and pre- senfing many new ones. Door prizes consisTing of original carfoons were merely one of iTs many surprises, and The commenTs of The pleased dancers assured The conTinuaTion of The Journalism Balls. As succeeding issues of The weekly made Their appearance, The annual TryouT weeks rolled around. l-leld in The spring To give aspiranTs for ediforial posifions on The following year's sTaff a 'chance To display Their TalenTs, These few weeks bring To lighT a wealTh of iournalisTic abiliTy. A differenT Try- ouT sTaff produces each issue for several weeks, and aT The close of This period The board oT publica- Tions considers recommendafions and picks The besf possible sTaff. ReporTers who have done consisTenTly good work ThroughouT The year and who have received Training in one of The Two iournalism classes are given precedence, and ofTen The sTar reporfers on one year's sTaff graduaTe bodily inTo ediforial posifions for The nexT year. Thus anoTher successful year of The Evansfonian Weekly has drawn To an auspicious close, and hope- ful would-be ediTors have gone nervously To The annual spring JournalisTs' banqueT in hopes ThaT They will find Their names on The lisT of ediTors-To-be.
