MAJOR ATHLETICS Lasf year marked fhe Cfolden Anniversary of our school, a half-cenfury of sfeady developmenf, culminafing in our greafesf record of achieve- menf. i934 is fhe firsf link in fhe second half of fhe cycle, and in carry- ing on fhe Evansfon fradifion of excellence in afhlefics and sporfsman- ship we have forged a mighfy connecfion. 'l' 'l' + Pop Vance and Coach Cameron again produced a grid machine fhaf successfully de- fended ifs fifle. Sfarfing slowly, we reached our peak in fhe crucial game wifh Oak Park, coming from behind fo fie fhe game af 6-6 on a field of mud. This game, more fhan any ofher, proved our fighfing spirif and cham- pionship calibre. The play of Capfain Ed lvlarfin, Bob Voigfs, and Cornelius Champion formed fhe framework around which fhe feam was builf. + + JF Wifh fhe advenf of winfer our affenfion furned fo fhe gymnasium and baskefball. The hardesf compefifion of recenf years was waged befween members of a fasf, well-balanced squad. The resulf was an- ofher undispufed Suburban League championship. Again fhe play of Bob Voigfs af guard and Carl Griggs af forward proved fhe feam's main fhreaf. Alfhough fhe lighfweighfs mef wifh less success, fhe fasf, hard games fhey played broughf some of fhe greafesf fhrills of fhe season. + 'l' 'l' The ever-increasing inferesf in frack has resulfed in an- ofher fine feam. Coach Schulfz has made no promises,-yef he believes fhaf wifh fhe squad af full sfrengfh our chances are excepfionally good. + + 'l' Beyond fhe cinder frack our colorful baseball squad may be seen on fhe far diamond fhese spring days. Through a long series of con- secufive vicfories over non-league opponenfs, snap and precision have been acquired. 'Wifh a confinuafion of fhe sensafional pifching of Jack Kaufman, fhe prospecfs for a final championship are brighf. + 'l' 'l' And so we ring down fhe curfain on our senior year. The memories of fhrilling encounfer, fhe lessons in sporfsmanship and clean play, fhe clearer vision of fhe road fo success and happiness we fake wifh us.
