Text from Pages 1 - 100 of the 1962 volume:

The faculty and student body of Evans High School proudly dedicate this year's annual to one of their retiredbus drivers, Mr. Wilburn Hinson. We hope that this dedication will show in some small way our appreciation for the faithful service that Mr. Hinson has exhibited in the progress of Evans School. We have a deeper feeling for Mr. Hinson than words can express. For his kindness, and gentle nature, and helping hand to every boy and girl of Evans School, he will always be remembered. The Annual Staff ADMINISTRATION Seated; L. to R. - Roland Mitcham, Supt. Curtis Bradshaw, Mack Redmond, Elisabeth Palmer, and Robert Schaeffer. Standing: Ass’t. Supt. Russell Jackson, Elmo Davis, M. I wish to commend the staff and sponsors of Evans High School for their contribution and efforts involved in compiling and editing this year book. As you review the many activities in which you have engaged during the academic year may they point out pleasant memories and visible marks of progress and improvement. It is hoped that this record may serve for many years to verify by print and pictures the experiences that you have enjoyed during this school term and you find inspiration to continue worthwhile activities. My best wishes go with each one of you represented in this publication. Sincerely, Curtis Bradshaw, Superintendent Vernon Parish Schools To the students of Evans High School: Congratulations to the Eagle Staff, their sponsor, and the many people who have made contributions to this project. This yearbook takes its place in the records of the Evans High School as another strong and graceful link in the History and development of this school. It will always serve as a happy reminder of the golden days spent at this school. May it also serve as a momento of gracious and fruitful training in an atmosphere of friendly, intellectual pursuits. Many friendships have been made, and a great lesson has been learned-how to live with others. The parts of our lives that can never be recaptured--except in thoughts, has been lived here. Through this book one may enter the past, view- ing it through the eyes of great men. Then experiences and ideas of his own are relived. We live a day and a day is gone. We live a year and a year is gone. We truly hope that this annual may leave true and sacred memories of this year (1961-1962). Craft Molly Evans Thomas Keel Lula Midkiff SHIRLEY CHEVROLET COMPANY DeRidder, Louisiana HKH ■ 3 r I reistoty OnSeptember 2, 1958, twenty-two scared little Freshmen stepped into the massive halls of Evans High School. They were as follows: Beverly Egan, Molly Evans, Louise Jones, Elois Roberts, Mildred Smith, Lula Midkiff, Elsie Kay, Carolyn Speights, Linda Andrews, Charles Arnold, Thomas Craft, Wayne Dailey, Earl Eaves, Gary Holt, Thomas Keel, Wesley Loftin, Larry Belton, and Johnny Nash. During this school year they lost Thurmon Holt, and Wesley Loftin. Elsie Kay took a big step and married during the summer, and now has three little Elsies . Linda Andrews didn't like our company, so she moved away. Upon entering our Sophomore year, we lost five more pupils. Elois Roberts failed to reach the tenth grade. Charles Arnold and Earl Eaves and George Jeane dropped out looking for greener pastures and must have found them for they never returned. Bells got to ringing in Carolyn Speights ear's and she became Mrs. Jack Dean Pippin, so we lost her. We neither lost nor gained in the eleventh grade. Everything was just about the same. The same low grades, staying in at recess for breaking the rules. Then on September 5, 1961, twelveof the twenty-two little Freshmen had achieved the goal of becoming Seniors. No one had changed from the Junior year to the Senior year, except Beverly Egan. She became Mrs. Clarence Arnold. The faithful twelve are as follows: Mildred Smith Larry Belton Louise Jones Beverly Arnold Molly Evans Lula Midkiff Thomas Keel Thomas Craft Johnny Nash Gary Holt Jack Toney Cecil Jeane HERNANDEZ FARM SUPPLY Leesville, Louisiana THE LEESVILLE LEADER 206 E. I, Lula Midkiff leave my ability to do the twist to Glenda who just can't seem to get the knack of it. I, Larry Belton leave my callouses to Hall's lily white hands . I, Johnny Nash leave my quietness to Bobby who talks too much. I, Thomas Keel leave a certain eighth grader to William. I, Cecil Jeane will my musical talents to Douglas who longs to be a concert pianist. I, Molly Evans leave my ability to get any boy I want to DeLain who certainly needs something. I, Mildred Smith leave my ability to get away with flirting with all the boys to Peggy who is getting along just fine on her own. I, Beverely Arnold will my happy married life to Glenda. I, Gary Holt leave my ability to get along with the teachers to Dan who needs something. I, T.K. Craft leave my basketball talents to Marvin, who hopes to make first string before he graduates. I, Johnny Nash leave my ability to capture the B.H.S. girls hearts to Billy who seems to be trying. I, Jack Toney leave my neatness on the ball court and class room to all the Junior boys.
