Ez cins High School Tne Students of Evans High School dedicate this annual to our Ex-Janitor, MR. MARK HARVEY in recognition of his service to our school in past years. As a janitor, he put forth splendid efforts, energy, and foresight to promote better upkeep to the school surroundings. As an individual he has consistently displayed those traits of character that proved to be a friend to everyone. To the kind, sympathetic, and patriotic friend wc pay tribute. JR. 27 EVANS F. H. A. NEWS The Evans F. H. A. Club has done good work this year. All had home projects and did a good job on them. We are all interested in our club nnd striving to do our best. One girl in one of our club meetings got so interested in our program, she was sitting there wide eyed when all of a sudden her chair folded up and she took a seat on the floor. There was nothing unconcerned about her. We have lost one member and gained sixteen, although, we have a fine club this year. We hope to have a better one each coming year. Reporter Inez Jarrell EVANS F. F. A. NEWS The officers elected at the closing of the school term last year for this year are as follows: President, Dalton Stevison; Vice-President, Harold Haymon; Treasurer, G. W. Stanley; Secretary, Eurlin Layne Jarrell; Reporter, John Dae Chaddick; Parliamentarian, Murves Whatley; and appointed Advisor Mr. W. F. Dowden, Jr. The Chapter has built up its savings by selling assortment cards, garden seed, fence post and other money from our chapter pig chain. The activities of the year consist of a joint F. F. A. and F. H. A. Party, Educational Films and Book Reference. • Other plans are to hold a joint Father-Son, Mother-Daughter Banquet, donate and establish a cattle gap at the vehicle entrance and open and equip a farm shop. We are going to elect a queen to represent our chapter at the State F. F. A. Convention which will be held on the L. S. U. Campus at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We will also buy the lucky girl a sweetheart jacket. 31 Reporter John Dae Chaddick •f Evans Sports Page This seasons sports has consisted entirely ol boys' and girls' basketball teams. Both teams have enjoyed every game played. Due to the lack of sufficient place to play and equipment we were handicapped. Both boys' and girls' teams have competed in a few tournaments. The boys Just topped off the season by winning the first place trophy in a Burkeville, Texas tournament. Wc are very proud of the boyo and think they did swell to leave their home state and win an out-of-state trophy. 33 Senior Class When we think of the Senior Class we look upon them to be one of the most prosperous groups ever to pass on. Of course, we have our faults, as well as our good traits. Loyce Kay Jarrell, famous President of the class is in powerful agony and extreme wonder if he is going to have enough credits in order to graduate. Drawing away from th« Procident of the clflSR, we next t.hinlc of Eurlin Layne Jarrell. His one-track mind is solemnly set on being Glen Blackwell’s right-hand Secretary some day. Do you suppose he will ever succeed? That tall and UauUsume: Roy Jvaue, positively affirms that he will never marry. His highest hope is just a pleasant job somewhere, but Eloise Jarrell has recently dropped the hint and said, she knew the exact word to say in order to win his lonely heart. I wonder don’t you? Now, we don't want to forget Melba Rae Cryer. Her only desire as well as her future just lies in the hands of a boy in England. Seems to me her future is quite a distance away. The world's most famous basketball player is on his way to New York or some foreign land. I just hope Betty Cryer doesn’t meet that famous player (Duane Smith) and trap him before he hits the goal. I see nothing, neither in the past, present, or future for Murvis Whatley except to settle somewhere along the Gill homestead. What do you suppose will ever become of Bernice Holt? Well, I'm no weather prophet but I do like to predict dreams for the future. Since I have recently conversed with her friend Dalton, I am sure if Camp Polk is not moved within at least a two weeks period there will be nothing left for her except a soldier. Deep down in my heart I could feel that old-time throb that told me Melton Keel would never walk up the stairways of success. I know he will only stay until the May sunshine is past and gone for Hollywood is now calling him. South Koreans are calling Theda Rose Perkings, as a nurse for their aching heads. Will she ever arrive without a crash? Our friend Leroy Midkiff is perfectly willing to find him some small farm and settle happily there. 34 And I, Darlyne Chaddick solemnly vow to cherish the old, help the sick, care for the lame, and especially to sooth the bruises on yuuuK buy cuubed by bucking but . Our geometry teacher, now, our highly honored sponsor, is one we shall faithfully love and cherish here and forever. Of course, we have five more high school teachers that are out- standing too, so we will close in saying we are proud of them all. Senior Editor Darlyne Chaddick 35 Junior Class The Junior Class of 1951 can look back upon this year with pride, for they have accomplished a great many things. We elected our class officers to start the year off right. Willts Farris was chosen by the class for President to lead them through their Junior year. Harold Haymon was elected Vice-President; Levea Welch, Secretary; Faye Haymon, Editor; Jesmine Smith, Reporter. There are 17 members of this class and it is definitely up and coming with nearly all its members active in the school's activities. A Junior can be found on every team and in most all clubs. At the time Christmas came around, the class gave a Christmas Carnival, in order to raise money for the great Junior-Senior Banquet which will be given soon. We must not forget the visit which Santa made the day of our carnival. This gave all the kiddies a great thrill. In fact, we almost think everyone had a swell time.' We have had a wonderful time in a very successful year under the leadership of Mrs. Willie Mae Knight (the schools most popular sponsor.) Don't you agree the Junior class is one of the best? Editor Faye Haymon 36 Tenth Grade The tenth grade elected new oXXlcexs Xor the «cbuul year oX 1950-51. The officers elected were: President, Dalton Stevlson; Vice-President, Bill Stephens, Jr.; Secretary-Treasurer, Evelyn Blackmon; Reporter, John Dae Chaddick and the advisor was Mrs. Margaruite Smith. There has been little activity in the tenth grade this year. Everyone has been making good grades. Students that almost failed last year are doing as well as some of the last years A pupils. With happy anticipation we started upon this adventure. Each of us is trying to play his part well. The stage is the Evans High School and the first scene opens in the English Class room. We watch each noun We watch each verb But when we’re outside Such English as is heard. As the second scene opens one is greeted by a faint rattle. As you look closer you see the players busy with pencil and paper trying to solve the unknown. Oh, it’s only our brains making all the noicc. Somoono cuggoctod a privat® ©y© b© ©©cured to keep up with x. The teacher throws cold water on the idea. In the third scene many things are brought before you as we visit our Science class each day. Our teacher knows very much and yet every lew days sne aoko uo oo many We know she learns everything from our answers. The next scene shows a group of industrious girls trying to learn how to become good cooks and to sew well. As we go into the kitchen if you smell anything burning that’s all right, someone is just burning something. We can still eat it. Then we see them learning to sew. We sure waste a lot of thread each day ripping out what we sewed in, the day before. A quick change of scenes brings into view a group of boys who are trying to learn how to become good farmers. If there is a failure in the crops this year just don’t blame it on them for they can’t learn everything in one year. They know that we could not live without the food that is produced ou the fax mo. The ooil rnuot be conserved. They are learning how to cut up meat so if you get some meat that isn't cut up just right don't blame them for this is still their first year. Soon these scenes will be over and the curtain will fall on the first act of our drama as Freshmen and next school year the curtain will rise on the second act when all the players will return as Sophomores to continue the scenes in High School Days. 38 Arthurlta Williams CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU THE ’51 CLASS OF EVANS HIGH SCHOOL Hooks Department Store WE OUTFIT THE FAMILY DE RIDDER, LOUISIANA Compliments of TURNERS FOOD MARKET Fancy Staple Groceries 1328 Texas St. Leesville, La.
