He assumed Command of the USS Rice County QLST-10893 and was Executive Officer of the USS Morton QDD-9483, the position he held until taking Command of the EVANS in March of 1965, LCDR Stalder is married to the form- er Mary Jo Lotspeich of x Davenport, Iowa. They have three children, a boy 3, and two girls, ages 1 1X2 and 5 months. He was promoted to Com- mander and reported for duty on the Staff of Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet in May.

A y A little brother who plays pop-guns and wants to be a cowboy. g Or a sister who graduates from High School this year, ' All of these and many more constitute the ones who indeed are the home and those that keep home, often just a memory, a reality. They are our inspiration, our will to go on, our guides through depression. But even more, they are the way of life we are fighting to maintain. They are the smiles, the patience, the hope, the hugs, the outstretched arms and the tears of hap- piness that await our return. This evolution in- volves both mental and physical work. The physical consists of bringing the ship to above her high level of cleanliness and appearance and readiness in 'order to present a most favorable impression. The mental consists of adjusting to the new way of life that comes after the evolution. I This evolution of course, is called CHANGE OF COMMAND. Only 110 miles from the grave of her name- sake, Commander Earnest Edwin Evans, EVANS underwent this change mid-way through her sixth Westpac Cruise on 11 April 1966 in Cebu City Cebu Island, Philippines.
