CLASS HISTORY After years of anticipation, Saturday, May 22, 1971 -- the day we had been waiting for -- finall arrived. As we received our degrees or diplomas we did so with a note of gratitude and Y thanksgiving in our hearts. These years at the seminary hold many fond memorigeifor each of us. We remember the chapel with its old theatre-type seats and the main building e ore it was carpeted, painted and refurnished. The new library was a dream but during our years at the school we saw this dream become a reality. The class was formed in September, 1 68. r an, ean, g , been at the school for a year or so as they were members of the Introductory Course of Study. Allen, Frank and Tom were continuing their education after graduating or attending other colleges or universities. There were several others who are no longer with us for various reasons. Some have dropped back to next year's class while a few have left the seminary. Early in our first year we began to realize the busy activities of the seminary student. The lively pace of lectures, papers, tests and studies kept us busy and before we loiew it, the first semester had slipped by. Those living in the dormitory and doing their own cooking enjoyed the occasional "splurging" for a good meal at one of the local restaurants. Table tennis, football and other sports helped to keep us in good physical condition. Extensive renovations of the campus buildings tood place or started during our Middler Year. We had to take a second look at the administration building as it took on an entire new appearance. The chapel was painted, carpeted and had new lighting fixtures and pews installed. The student lounge on the second floor was finished giving the students an adequate place to relax, study, watch TV and enjoy each other's fellowship in an informal atmosphere. The administration offices and conference room were completely refinished. All of this added to the enrichment of the historical campus buildings. Also ground was broken for the new library and our class was able to watch the erection of this building from the ground-breaking to the actual use of the facilities. The students eagerly and critically watched the construction of the portico. This was the subject of many discussions and comments. "Ye Olde Coffee Shoppe" was a project of our class which proved to be a very profitable endeavor. Fresh brewed instant coffee and a tempting selection of "home baked" Tastykakes and Pies were available each day. Our stand was conveniently located in the second floor hallway between the classrooms and the lounge. The class had an eye for business. Sales really "boomed" during class breaks and over the noon hours. In our academic work as Middlers we experienced a change in curriculum. Some courses were changed from two-hour to three or four-hour subject. This necessitated close coordination on the part of each student to make sure that he would have all the required subjects and the right number of hours when it came time to graduate. Many hours were spent on the preparation and compilation of information for the Year Book. Our Editor-in-Chief was Arlan Bond. Allen Kline served as the official photographer. Other students assisted in finalizing the book. During these years at school, many deep and lasting friendships have been developed between fellow students and the faculty. We have come to know each other as a "family" and in a sense have helped to inspire each other to grow' in both spiritual wisdom and grace. , 7 The day that we looked forward to -- Graduation Day -- has now become a thing of the past. What started .out .as a date that seemed so far away has now become a reality and a memory. For most of us this will be the end of our formal education and we must put into practice all that we have learned. Our class has the distinction of having Franklin Schock as the first graduate to receive the Master of Divinit De ree from the Sem' , ' but we do know the One wholholdg the future for us. mary We don t know what the future hcldsl 9 A l D Geor e Richard and Roy had already W.
