46- Pastor ebb Provides Spiritual Services This year, we welcomed Bert Webb as our new Campus Pastor and Spiritual Leader. As he approached our chapel pulpit for the first time, a hush of anticipation spread throughout the congregation. Then with a smile, Pas- tor Webb broke the ice and truly became our very own Pastor as his quick wit, total togetherness and spir- itual leadership combined to win our hearts and respect. Pastor Webb is a highly experienced minister, extending from missionary responsibilities to pioneer efforts to executive positions in the General Council of the Assemblies of God, International. He feels his opportunity to be associated with Evangel College is a high point in his life and one which is ordered of the Lord . To see that a growth in the grace and personal knowledge of Christ as Savi- our is Pastor Webb's aim. He feels that his availability to the individual stu- dent receives top priority. He desires to conduct chapel services to provide a spiritual atmosphere where students will find it easy to respond to the truth of God's Word as applied by the Holy Spirit to the circumstances of everyday life. Pastor Webb says, Evangel graduates must leave the college with not only acquired skills and capabilities in their chosen field, but also with a total commitment to truly represent Christ in every phase of life. Little did any of us know that that same tugging had been having an effect on the heart of the Evangelist, Denny Duron. That very week he had been approached with the prospect of coaching a potential foot- ball team here at Evangel College. In three days, he had affirmed his deci- sion and closed his final service know- ing that the following semester he would become a part of our staff. Denny qualifies in the football world, on past performance quarter- backing two National Championship teams. He was in the NCAA College Division II at Louisiana Tech with a win record of 24 and 1 loss in 1972 and 1973. In the Southland Conference his team was all-conference for two years and he was voted most valuable player his senior year. After college he signed with the pro- fessional team, the Birmingham Americans in the World Football League for two years. He helped bring his team to a World Bowl Champion- ship before moving to the Washington Redskins NFL team. But as was to happen a few years later on our own campus, Denny felt that special tugging of the Holy Spirit to leave training camp to enter the min- istry full time. After successfully reaching many for the Lord during his years in Evangelism, the Ilord directed Denny to a new aspect of ministry. The unique and exciting profession of combining the Gospel and football. He says, football in a Christian envi- ronment is a ministry and will be one of the greatest outreach programs and tools for Evangel College that the Evangelical world has ever experi- enced. Football is an American national sport and an excellent way to channel ministries through the players and students. He will concentrate on discipleship and unity in the team through experiences in Jesus Christ. There are three kinds of conditioning involved in Denny's training program, including mental, physical, and spir- itual. He wants to see all three aspects developed in his men to create a whole team full of whole men. K 2 I Denny Duron
