THE FINISH The summer was indeed a long one. We longed fo come back fo school for our Iasf year af Evander. Sepfember I0 was fhe day of our refurn fo fhe familiar halls fhaf would be a memory in approximafely eighf monfhs. The Iasf Iap of fhe race was begin- ning, and we were in fhe Iead. Senior iewelry was ordered, applicafions for colleges and insfifufions of higher educafion were filled. Yef in all fhis husfle and busfle we found fime fo do our share in helping many of fhe people in need of clofhing fhrough no faulf of fheir own. Our clofhing drive provided a helping hand fo many Europeans. As usual, senior day was a success, and in January, eighfy- eighf of our fellow sfudenfs deparfed from our midsf. Affer Easfer we were all excifed. Graduafion was only fwo monfhs away. Scholarship winners were nofified, accepfances from colleges were fransmiffed, and 'rhe field of commerce received a fresh crop of young, ambifious graduafes. The race is af an end. We are fhe friumphanf ones, and yef we find sadness in our hearfs. HOME STRETCH The energy 'thai' had been waifing io bursf 'For'l'h during fhe summer monfhs sei' our +hird year info full swing. Among fhe firsi' fhings we planned for our iunior year was our junior prom. We worked on 'rhe idea for mon+hs, and when i+ finally came off, ii' was quife a success. Thai year we also learned qui+e a bi+ aboui' Pakisfan and Denmark. We were privileged +o have as foreign guesfs, Anis SaH'i and Inge Sfoulsfrup. They visiled our classes and 1'olcl of 'rheir counfries, fheir cusfoms and whai' fhey fhoughi' of fhe American way of life. H' was especially inferes+ing fo lis+en fo Anis speak, because his counfry, Pakis'ran, had iusi' secured ifs independence and sef up a new form of government Along wi+h The June heal, came our annual boal' ride. The Evander sfudenfs once again wen+ 'up +he river.' The day was filled wi+h happiness. We basked in fhe sun, gof sick on +he roller- coas+er and dive bombers, and exercised our vocal chords unfil we all had laryngilis. Two weeks lafer we would be seniors officially, and on June 26, when fhe class of '56 walked up on 'rhe sfage of fhe Paradise Thea+re fo receive fheir sheepskins, we af lasf were ihe new senior class.
