Mr. Schulman look over his dulies, and Mr. Colvin came lo lake lhe place ol Mr. Brady, relired cuslodian. Mr. Peck be- came our 6.0. adviser, and Miss Marks, chair- man ol lhe Malh Deparlmenl, assumed lhe leadership ol lhe Honor School. The loolball leam, weakened by gradualions, proved slronger lhan we had expecled. Bul fares had gone up. Tiger Monlh was highlighled wilh a leach- er-vs-sludenl quiz and a presenlalion ol Laura. Laler, wilh lhe Hallowe'en Dance, Presidenl Dave McConnell made Evander his- lory by carrying oul a campaign promise. ln November came lhe eleclion of Mr. Trumang ashcans everywhere were overllowing wilh Dewey bullons. We were saddened by lhe sudden passing ol Mrs. Allen lhal winler. The Freedom Train came lo New York, and lhe queslion arose whelher lhe sludenls wanled lo gel oul ol school lo look al lhe precious documenls, or lo look al lhe documenls in order lo gel oul ol school. The G.O. elec- lions saw viclory lor Tom Boscarino as presi- denl and lor Sandra Lichlenslein as repre- senlalive ol our Class. Sludenls were glad lo have lhe Audio-Visual Room eslablished for lhe school showing ol lilms. Our Mr. Tubridy wenl lo Cily College as coach ol loolball. ln lhe Spring ol I949, an exchange slu- denl lrom llaly, Marco Bacciagalluppi, called us gay and colorful. When we saw lhe Varsily Play we knew he was righlg Charm School cerlainly charmed lhe school. The Middle Slales Accrediling Associalion conducled a survey ol Evander-remember?-and ap- proved ol us, wilh lhe recommendalion ol more guidance, and less noise in lhe caleleria. The Malh, Bio, Arl and Heallh Educalion de- parlmenls won awards, and lhe annual Spring concerl ol lhe Music deparlmenl mel wilh lavorable commenls. We became lriendly wilh lhe new arrivals 'From Junior High School, especially when uniled in lhe common cause ol lhe Bunny Parade and lhe campaign lor Easler planls lor velerans' hospilals. The Can- cer Prevenlion exhibil won honors and Evan- der publicalions scored al lhe Columbia Press Associalion. The swimming leam again held highesl honors. Our G.O. represenlalive was Richard Reda, and by lhis lime we heard much aboul Evander democracy. Our lirsl Regenls' came: geomelry lor some ol us and bio lor nearly all. Before we realized il, we were al home on our summer vacalion. Those who relurned in lhe lall ol l949 lound lhemselves lourlh lermers. We had by lhis lime lorgollen our plighl as lreshmen, and were busy devising schemes lo lry oul on newcomers. The lunchroom had been sound- prooled, lhanks lo lhe Parenls Associalion and lhe M.S.A.A. The Hallowe'en Dance was supervised by lhe Parenls Associalion, and Tiger Monlh was highlighled by lhe show- ing ol Slairway lo Heaven. And lhen came lhe droughl. He has faughf in Evander ever since ifs second year of exisfence, and married an Evander feacher. They live in Tuckahoe where 'rheir son, an engineer, spends his free fime wifh fhem. Music is his hobby. HERVEY, DR. LEON As Marshal Squad di- recfor, Dr. Hervey has organized a sysfem of monifors for every corridor every period. Any Evanderife who has ever aflempfed sfrolling down fhe halls during class fime can fesfify as fo fhe efficacy of his squad. Dr. Hervey himself is parficularly alerf af defecfing and discouraging irregularifies such as cuffing classes. Aside from his work on Ihe Marshal Squad, we know him as a brillianl' biologisf who was frained af Cify College, New York Universify and Columbia. We know 'lhal' he has a brillianf wife, an Evander alumna who also has a Ph.D. and fhaf he has a small son, buf ofher facfs of his life he does nof reveal. He is fhe originafor and direcfor of Evander's courses in laborafory fechniques. These were begun as war courses buf proved so popular and helpful fhaf 'rhey have been confinued. Many were fhe days when we wandered, anxious and fhor- oughly confused, fhrough fhe labyrinfh of cor- ridors, and many fhe nighfs when fhe more sensifive of us wepf for 'rhe good old days in P.S. somefhing-or-ofher. The names of Carr, Rhodes, Kozlow, Solo- mon, Cruciani, Sifa and Halbauer echoed and reechoed 'rhrough fhe halls, buf fhey meanf nofhing fo us unfil some upper class- men informed us 'rhaf 'rhese were fhe spark- plugs of our swimming feam, 'I'he nafional champions.
