DOYLE, AGNES Chairman of fhe Secre- farial Deparfmenf, was born in fhe Pennsyl- vania mounfains, received her A.B. af N.Y.U. and her A.M. af Columbia, majoring in psy- chology and business subjecfs. Affer working in privafe indusfry, Miss Doyle decided fo fake up feaching for ifs wider safisfacfions. She is fond of fishing, reading, kniffing and fhe fhe- afer. She is a Yankee fan, buf roofed for fhe Gianfs in fhe recenf World Series. She enjoys driving, and during fhe pasf summer she fraveled Through Oregon, Washingfon, Cali- fornia, Ufah and ofher sfafes by car. EGAN, ELEANOR Dean of Girls and As- sisfanf Principal, beloved even by girls who have fo bring fheir parenfs for an inferview. A graduafe of New Rochelle College wifh an English major, Mrs. Egan fook up fhe feaching of composifion and liferafure, developing a special fondness for feaching sfudenfs of Evander's commercial course. Firsf as Grade Adviser and fhen as College Adviser, Mrs. Egan won fame and appreciafion in her capac- ify for guidance. When Miss Cunniffe re- fired, Mrs. Egan quiefly sfepped info her place as dean and carried on wifhouf fanfare buf wifh nofeworfhy success. She has a quief fechnique of Lef's falk if over fhaf inspires confidence. In Mrs. Egan many girls see fheir icleal-a combinafion of career woman and home-maker. Among her hobbies are cook- ing, driving a car, and walking in fhe counfry. She has fraveled widely and has sfudied much, especially psychology and guidance, buf she is always friendly, democrafic, and helpful. Though biology is her chief hobby, she has many ofhers. Music is his hobby. HERVEY, DR. LEON As Marshal Squad di- recfor, Dr. Hervey has organized a sysfem of monifors for every corridor every period. Any Evanderife who has ever aflempfed sfrolling down fhe halls during class fime can fesfify as fo fhe efficacy of his squad. Dr. Hervey himself is parficularly alerf af defecfing and discouraging irregularifies such as cuffing classes. Aside from his work on Ihe Marshal Squad, we know him as a brillianl' biologisf who was frained af Cify College, New York Universify and Columbia. We know 'lhal' he has a brillianf wife, an Evander alumna who also has a Ph.D. and fhaf he has a small son, buf ofher facfs of his life he does nof reveal. He is fhe originafor and direcfor of Evander's courses in laborafory fechniques. These were begun as war courses buf proved so popular and helpful fhaf 'rhey have been confinued. Mr. Messing, our Guidance Counsellor 'rhaf ferm, promised us such a high affainmenf of culfure fhaf affer four years we would refer fo Evander as an eleganf esfablishmenf rafher Ihan a swell ioin'r, and fhen he 'rurned us loose info a new experience. Many were fhe days when we wandered, anxious and fhor- oughly confused, fhrough fhe labyrinfh of cor- ridors, and many fhe nighfs when fhe more sensifive of us wepf for 'rhe good old days in P.S. somefhing-or-ofher. The names of Carr, Rhodes, Kozlow, Solo- mon, Cruciani, Sifa and Halbauer echoed and reechoed 'rhrough fhe halls, buf fhey meanf nofhing fo us unfil some upper class- men informed us 'rhaf 'rhese were fhe spark- plugs of our swimming feam, 'I'he nafional champions. And so we learned of a fradifion firmly fixed in Evander hisfory: fhe equalion of Coach Gay -l- Evander swimmers : vic- fory.
