Jean Crakes, Secretarv - 's As we look back over the days of '49 we find gold in the Girls' League , . , from the tip of the president's head down to the heart of each girl. Pioneering, in the good 'ole '49er style, we did lots of new and different things. GADABOUTS: Our traditional events . . . Hallowe'en party, with cider, doughnuts, apples, and each girl entertaining a small child, either a friend Lwjl Girls' League or someone from the Alice Marie Children's home, Valentine party, featuring square danc- ing, May Day party, a traditional affair for ninth grade girls, and a Coke dance during the tournament, at which they also manned a guest book, all had a spark of something special . . . and they were loads of funl CALENDAR GIRLS: Every month a secret committee selects the girl of the month. This girl is chosen on the basis of all around service. The girl receives a gold Girls' League pin, decorated with a diamond and two rubies, to wear for the month. The winners for the past year have been: October, Carolyn Silva for her work on the Girls' League teas and as hostess for the Girls' League, November, The Rally Squad: Barbara Fulton, Eunice Miller, Lois Taylor, Dolores Clark, Margaret Jarvis, Jackie Lewis, and Arlene Jones, for their work during the summer working up the yells for football and basketball games, December, Dolores God- dard for her work as prexy of Pep Club and one of the leading characters in the Thespian play This Genius Business , January, Ma- delle Peoples, cabinet member of the Girls League in charge of sacking candy for the Vets Memorial Hospital at Roseburg, Febru- ary, Mary Cochrane as Editor of the i949 Eugenean, March, Myrna Carroll, co-chair- man of Twirp Week and work on the Beaux Arts Ball, and April, Jo Anne Davis, Feature Editor of the Eugenean, Beaux Arts Ball Prin- cess, and co-chairman of the Twirp Week Assembly.
