After several days of steaming in the Red Sea, we arrived in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Navy gave us a grand welcome and were eager for competitive sporting events. The American Embassy and community greeted us with a full schedule of social and athletic events. The crew enjoyed ships parties at the embassy pool and Ubhor Creek. The crew ob- served the culture of the Middle East viewing veiled women and the crude camel and donkey carts mixed with the modern hustle of automobiles.
