In the spring of 1960 I journeyed back to my old home town of Stidham and was amazed to see that Stidham had developed into a big oil town As I stepped off the train I found a taxi waiting I could scarcely believe my eves when I saw the driver why' it was none other than Wayne Martin I got ln and started inquiring about my old classmates of '47 'K 'ki I was astonished when Wayne pointed to a ten story building across the street and said it was one of the swankiest hotels in the state of oklahoma who do you think the owner was? It was Houston Turner Houston had married immedi ately after graduation and was now the father of two cute little brown eyed boys with curly hair There was no better place to spend the night so I told Wayne to park XXK1 As I got out of the taxi a little red headed boy came up and asked, 'Lady, do you know where my daddy 1s?' I said, 'No who is your daddy and what's your name?' To which the little boy replied, 'Junior Jackson, my daddy runs a store Wayne then explained to me that that was Royce's little boy and that Royce owned a group of chain stores throughout tre southern area of the United States I registered at the hotel and upon glancing at the register I noticed the name of Mildred Martin Strange things happen, imagine Mildred here at Stldham I XXXXKKK went to my room and changed then I decided to pay Mildred an unexpected call I went to her room and knocked on the door The door opened and I was taken back with amazement She d1dn't look a day older and was still as beautiful as ever She informed me she had been married four times and had just returned from Reno and was now free again X 'K X 'X 'KKKXXXK Mildred went on talking and said 'I'll bet you would never guess who my lawyer was? It was Austin Shirley ' She told me that Austin had never married but she bet it wasn't because he couldn't have been because he was one of the most handsome men she had ever met Mildred said when she got on the train in New Mexico she met Dortha Adams Dortha had married a depot agent and was living in Alburqurque and had two little boys and a little girl As always our subject turned toward our best chum, Wanda Jean Laman, who had married a French Ambassador to the U S and was known throughout all furope as the greatest woman novelist of the 20th Century Mildred said she had had a letter from Wanda and that she was flying to the L S and would arrive in X Qtidham the next day, and that she was meeting her the next morning so she in vited me along The next morning when we met the 10 45 plane out stepped Wanda Jean dressed in the latest, and who do you think was with her?
