BEVERLY BAKER, Principal JEFFERSON DAVIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Located at 401 East Broadway, Jefferson Davis Elementary School was built in 1909-1910. At the time of original construction, it was adjacent to the Jefferson Highway, which is now Simpson Street. The main building, pictured above, contains four classrooms. A second story was added in 1916 and removed in 1942. The only remaining portion of the second floor today is a small room now used as the counselor's office. The campus of our school also has three additional buildings. In 1954-1955 a building for two classrooms and a cafeteria was constructed. A gymnasium was built during the 1960's and a language laboratory was added in the 197O's. The grades that have attended our school have changed a number of times, at present, 156 third and fourth grade students attend Jefferson Davis Elementary School. 21
