INTRODUCING... Mr. Joe York came to Etowah this year bringing with him a new “rotating schedule”, club meetings every Tuesday, and an assembly each Friday. This system proved to be a welcome relief for the students, since classes met only four days a week, and each day was different than the one before. Mr. York received his B.S. degree from Jackson- ville University, M.S. degree from Auburn University, and A.A. degree from the University of Alabama. Mr. York served two and a half years with the U.S. Army in New Guinea, Australia. He then became principal of Alexander City Elementary School for two years, Talladega County High School in Lincoln, Alabama for nine years, Greene County High School in Eutaw, Alabama for six years, Glencoe High School for five years, and then here at Etowah High School for an exceedingly long length of time, we hope. As principal of Etowah, Mr. York has had his headaches with the many projects and programs on which each club has worked diligently, but he has always shown excellent patience and abounding good humor. Under his guidance Etowah was able to buy a most coveted royal blue velvet curtain, and the gym received a beautiful paint job. Mr. York is certainly a most respected principal and disciplinarian. The students at Etowah High School realize how fortunate they are to have such a person guiding them.

OFFICE STAFF PROVES EFFICIENCY Elaine Brooks Amelia Cartrett Ruth Paulding Pauline York “Young lady, this is your third pass in two days!” Mr. Ray Campbell has been a great addition to the administration of Etowah High School. As assistant principal he has many duties, a few of which are ad- mitting late students, signing absentee slips, checking out students, applying punishment, and many others that are too numerous to mention. Since coming to Etowah, he has worked very closely with and has gained the respect of both the students and the teachers. He has helped revitalize a wrestling team which Etowah has been without for many years. From these few facts it can be seen that Mr. Campbell has become a great asset to the school in more ways than one. There are many duties to be carried out in the office of a school and Etowah is very fortunate to have a competent and capable staff to attend to these duties. Mrs. Pauline York is the school secretary and has a tedious job of keeping the record books and many more important responsibilities. Mrs. Elaine Brooks and Mrs. Ruth Paulding play essential roles in the office. Their duties range from helping the teachers in various ways to substituting when the teachers are absent. Mrs. Millie Cartrett advises the sophomores and juniors as to their curriculum and the seniors as to a vocation. All of these staff members are necessary for the smooth operation of Etowah High School.
