In a sense, this book is notdedicated TO YOU but TO EVERYBODY! Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1955: Twelve years have passed since we started out as ‘‘Freshmen ’ together at Etowah--youin the first grade and I serving my firstyearas principal. Dur- ing this time we have shared many new and different experiences. With the magic eye of the camera you have captured highlights of these twelve years; and within these pages are found your friends--faculty members and students--each of whom, in his or her way, has had a partin your education and happiness, The Chief will serve as a memory book that will keep you tied to your Alma Mater and to the friends you have made here. It cannot show the educational benefits nor worthy traits of character you have acquired; only time can reveal these. As aclass and as individuals, you have had big plans for the future, It has always been my desire tohelp lead you along the right path toward the ful- fillment of these plans. I want to commend you for your accomplishments in life thus far, and to congratulate you for staying in school until you have reached the goal of graduation, Now like a ‘‘team in the huddle,’’ youare readyto begin the biggest game of all--the game of life. I shallbe on the sidelines as you play this game, wish- ing for each of you the greatest of success. Each member of the faculty joins me in extending to each of you our very best wishes. H. T. Class History Twelve years ago,a small, but valiant band of Pilgrims set upon a weary march in search of the Celestial City of Knowledge. Among those Pilgrims were: Clara Nell Baynard, Virginia Dalton, Pat Fletcher, Lorraine Marona, Aline Robinson, Lorena Weese, Juanita Williams,. Gene Allen, Billy Allison, Jimmy Cantrell, Billy Dalton, Bobby Dalton, we Ja Wayne Morgan, Russel Nix, Larry Owens, and Wayne Sumner. Turning their faces toward the upward climb, they begat their march with Hope (Mrs. Shufford) leading them. The road oe learning increased in difficulty as Hope gave way to Determination. Grace Metcalf and Harold Austin joined the band as Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Dalton, and Mrs. Parker guided their footsteps up and over the firstfour difficulties of that climb---Fear, Uncertain- ity, Shyness, and Distrust. Entering into the spirit of..school life, they were few, though ena. Mrs.Stepp, Mrs. Morgan, and Mrs, Sitton worked tirelessly in ‘keeping up their hopes. Donald MeCarson and Louise Coston joined this group.as they stopped on the Hill of Difficulty awaiting the arrival of Courage (Miss Jordan) to take command. Clammering over the Hill of Difficulty, Dye Heffner and Randall Jackson joined the sToup as some ae by Ae ee oe 8 Led by Unde @i aiding, (Mrs Poly: the ones remaining telldtaee onward. New Truth andHope, (Mrs. Sitton), joined them in overcoming False Pride, overjoyed that the glimmer of that long sought city was now in sight. However, sadness tinged-their faith as they saw several of the Pilgrims slide back into the clutches of w stful thinking and wander off into the even ae difficulties of lites Encouragement, (Mr. Geekystbepeato the head of the foot ore and weary Pilgrims, giving them strengthto overcome The Valley of Humiliation. Joining the band was Ellen Costello, who gave strength to the group. They rested on their journey long enough to give a dramatic presentation (Junior Play), and broke bread with their elders (Junior-Senior Banquet) who a successfully climbed to the pres of the City of Knowledge. Enteging upon the last step of their journey, led by F ell arship and Love (Mrs. Dotson), they saw more pe ephtly the glimmering ee | light from that long sought City of Knowledges - st the goal was .
