CLASS PROPHECY One day two of our more curious seniors wished to find out what will happen to our classmates in the future, so they started on a journey to find that ageless character Father Time. Now Father Time is a roving person and never stays in one place for very long; but, as luck would have it, we were more fortunate than others who have looked for him. You see, my friends, as we were hunting for him, we stumbled over something and fell. When we looked to see what it was, we gazed at the beard of Father Time and then into his timeless face. ‘What luck to have stumbled over you like this, Father Time,’’ we said. “We were trying to find you because we want to know what will happen to the seniors who are our classmates at Etowah High. Please Say you will tell us.’’ “Well young ones,’’ he said, “‘since you have looked for me so industriously, I’ll turn up the clock and let you see for yourself.’’ Old Father Time reached out and turned up the time clock five, ten, fifteen years. “Now my children you will find things quite changed, for now we will go to China, where we will see Jean Fletcher. She is a missionary to China.” “‘We will now go to Hollywood where we’ll see that pretty model Delma Sams and, by the way, she is still Sams. In Hollywood too, we’ll find Betty Lou Pettit who is a very suc- cessful hair stylist. Everyone is crazy about her work.’ “‘There have been a lot of books written lately by the famous author, Derwood Marona, whose latest book is entitled, How to make a good Spitwad.’’ “‘Over here you see one of the new modern hospitals. We will take a look into the rooms. Let’s try the operating room. Here we will find Dr. Bessie Scott in the middle of an exciting operation. Melzinnia McCarson is her nurse.”’ ‘‘There is another one of your famous classmates I want you to see, but we must go to Northern France. There we will find Joyce Pruitt, the owner of a modern Cafe.”’ “On our way back if we were to board a plane, guess who would be the air stewardness? Yes, that’s right, Barbara Patterson. There is another famous air stewardess in the west- ern part of the U. S. She is Betty Ann Bell.’’ “Do you see that large building over there? Well, that is the new A P Store. Harold Arrington is co-owner.’’ ‘‘Now, my girls, we are in Kansas. By the way, Paul Banks has just bought one of the largest oil wells here. Do you think he will be another John L. Lewis?’ “‘As for Laurie McKinna, he is an agriculture teacher and has a pretty blonde for his wife. And speaking of married life, there’s someone else I want you to see. Both of you come here; you see that beautiful white house down there? It belongs to none other than Edward Nicholson, Yes, Elizabeth has prepared every meal for him since they have been married.’’ “Wilma Sams is secretary to the President now. I think she is doing very well, don’t you? Another of your classmates is in Washington too. Connie Allison is head of Juvenile Delinquency. Would you ever have believed it? ”’ “My friends, you remember Jeanne Revis? She is now living in the most beautiful house in N. C. She is the best interior decorator in that state.’ “Clara Crowder makes her money by car-racing and, from the way she dresses, she must be getting rich. Speaking of making money, Patsy Gilbert is doing very well also. She is a photographer.’’ “We will fly to New York now where we will see three more of your classmates. Doyle Hollingsworth is a skating instructor, that is when he can get away from his wife and chil- dren. And do you see that dress shop to your right? Ruth Garren is a designer there. In fact, there are two designers, for Wilma Galloway is there designing hats.’’ “Last of all we will fly to Canada. You must put on your coats to keep warm. It seems that Doris Blythe doesn’t mind the weather, for she has been there every since she finished college, teaching history in Ottowa, Canada.” ‘“fAll in all, the class of ’50 looks very promising and I hope it stays that way, don’t you?’?
